The basic issue with that is that if people want to do a certain practice, then they should do it on their own and not take the Dalai Lama as their leader...just as if you were doing any other action that the Dalai Lama disagrees with. people want the DL to still be their leader, as if there is one holy empire of Buddhism, but there isn't...we can do our seperate practices and still get along. Practices have been criticized by teachers, you can do them but don't expect HHDL to accept blindly.

Having just attended The Dalai Lamas lectures in Nottingham I found that at no point did he contradict himself. At all times he remained consistent in his message which was that far from seeking independence for Tibet he acknowledged the economic benefits that China had bought to Tibet and asked merely for a meaningful autonomy for Tibet at a local level. Is it too much to ask for that a people who have their own language, religion and culture are allowed to preserve these?
