I was watching the pbs concert of the berliner philharmoniker in carnegie hall and he was playing principle and the his "associate principle" was playing 3rd oboe. It would surprise me if Herr Mayer will give up orchestral playing and move to solo playing.
Agreed, he is the best of the best but does he have any students right now?
