mas, you said to start from stage 2, but is easyer if you start from stage 3 (underground). on the screen before you get the "SOTN mode", right when you see those ghostly hands in a pit there's a candle with a cross... the way you put it in your guide make it seems like the only cross you could get before geting the item, is the one that you get before the boss in stage 2... also, you can use an axe to cut the ropes and lower that platform =]

@Musashi8688 Yeah, I discovered that. I hate Richter's useless back-flip and Maria's dragon sub-weapon works just as well as Richter's cross, but as you said, her double jump means you don't really need a sub weapon to split open that plant to get up to the SOT icon.
@kanagawa85 just enter there names when you start a new game. However playing SOTN is punishingly hard. The hardest thing I have ever done in a game is beat the big lightning minotaur guy with Richter on the PS1. At this point I declared the game beaten. When in doubt Hydro-storm.

@videosfromderelix the remastered game is Rondo of Blood and this version kicks up when you start the game out of the box. They replaced the 2D sprites with 3D polygons (even though it a 2D plane/linear game). The original 2D sprite Rondo of Blood can be unlocked. The original Symphony of Night can be unlocked (what this video shows). Another character, Maria, is also unlockable and playable. Hope this helps!

@videosfromderelix I think back of the box might be misleading... I've only heard to this referred to as 3 games in one (the 3 i mentioned above). They did add some new modes to Symphony of night but it didn't get a visual overhaul or anything. Here is a link, second section mentions the new modes: Play as Alucard with 99 luck and the Lapis lazuli, Play as Alucard with the Axe Lord armor, play as Maria, play as Richter

see, what pisssed me off was not noting IF YOU ALREADY GOT TO STAGE 3' AND DIDNT GRAB IT... etc, you can just start from stage 3'. not against the author as anything i came across gave this, and a visual reenactment made me realize id already done so.
and then the noting in the menu ORIGINAL GAME. as opposed to making it say ORIGINAL on one entry and SOTN on another... really couldnt afford that extra text line? well thats why i didnt even bother myself.
@HeirofAzaran if your problem is that you're falling short of them when you're jumping, my advice is to wait till you're at the very edge to jump and if the problem is enemies keep knocking you off of the platforms then stay toward the middle of the platforms so if you get hit you won't fly off into the space in between... that's what used to happen to me in the first Castlevania game with that bit with the Medusa heads

To all you fanboys saying the inability to whip any direction but forward and the terrible controls are to increase the challenge: WRONG!!! You can make ANY game more challenging by fucking up the controls, that doesn't mean it's a good idea. I could make it harder by poking out your fucking eyes too, want me to do that?
I think that the axe works better, because I couldn't hit it with the cross. Also, in the beginning if stage 3' on the 1st screen, the platform above the mud pit has a gravestone. If you push it, you unlock a small area where you can pick a subweapon. That is much easier than going through stage 2 fighting the boss.
You are correct in the fact that you do have to fight Maria in this version. However there are two extra areas. The Cursed Prison and the Underground Garden. Look it up
i think thats stupid...not the video, but the fact that the game is advertised as having both games on one umd. but it never says you have to go out of your way to UNLOCK it. why cant you start off being able to choose which game to play?

what helps me is running through the level quickly and killing as many enemys as i can, if your upto a difficult part just pause the game and assess the situation and find the best possible way, or just look up a walkthrough if your lazy

if you have your game in .cso format, it will NOT work when you load sotn. you have to convert it to .iso and then it will not freeze.
this drove me nuts for days until i figured out that it just needed to be decompressed to .iso...

see, what pisssed me off was not noting IF YOU ALREADY GOT TO STAGE 3' AND DIDNT GRAB IT... etc, you can just start from stage 3'. not against the author as anything i came across gave this, and a visual reenactment made me realize id already done so.
and then the noting in the menu ORIGINAL GAME. as opposed to making it say ORIGINAL on one entry and SOTN on another... really couldnt afford that extra text line? well thats why i didnt even bother myself.

@HeirofAzaran if your problem is that you're falling short of them when you're jumping, my advice is to wait till you're at the very edge to jump and if the problem is enemies keep knocking you off of the platforms then stay toward the middle of the platforms so if you get hit you won't fly off into the space in between... that's what used to happen to me in the first Castlevania game with that bit with the Medusa heads

Whoah now, whoah now, people. I happen to like Rondo of Blood - but I LOVE Symphony of the Night. Thanks for the vid, it was really helpful ... but actually, I think you can get to the vine cage with the axe too, and there's a cross available REALLY close to that area, so you don't need to keep it from the Bone Golem fight.

Now I can play that badboy again, I have a copy of it on the ps1 but it is sealed, I got the fucker for $10 in the bottom of a bargain bin back in the day and had a burnt copy but I now no longer have a ps1, thanks, but playing Dracula X Chronicles was a fucken choir, it sucked more cock then Jenna Jameson!!!

@border205 You shouldn't have bought it. You can download the original SotN for your PSP AND PS3 simultaneously from the PS3 online shop.
It's not worth it to go through so much trouble for a crappy remade version on DXC.

Thanks, now I can play the game I bought this catridge for, not this Rondo of Blood crap. Seriously, Rondo is shit! To all you fanboys saying the inability to whip any direction but forward and the terrible controls are to increase the challenge: WRONG!!! You can make ANY game more challenging by fucking up the controls, that doesn't mean it's a good idea. I could make it harder by poking out your fucking eyes too, want me to do that?

I think that the axe works better, because I couldn't hit it with the cross. Also, in the beginning if stage 3' on the 1st screen, the platform above the mud pit has a gravestone. If you push it, you unlock a small area where you can pick a subweapon. That is much easier than going through stage 2 fighting the boss.

You are correct in the fact that you do have to fight Maria in this version. However there are two extra areas. The Cursed Prison and the Underground Garden. Look it up

@Starsky770 maybe you need to change your strategy.
what helps me is running through the level quickly and killing as many enemys as i can, if your upto a difficult part just pause the game and assess the situation and find the best possible way, or just look up a walkthrough if your lazy

@Deadrisingfan2 I probably would've shitted my pants, i got killed like 5 times by that stupid boss at the end of lv2 and just when i started lv3 i noticed my battery was at like 2% so i tried to rush to the SOTN item to no avail.
Battery ran out when i was dodging the spikey ball thingies :/ now i have to wait until my battery is fully recharged...

@jwax5150 Nah, it's a hard game, not because it's well designed but because every single enemy seems to hav some fucking random pattern so you get hit left and right and this Richter dude takes SO much dmg with every hit...
It's all about exploiting the right sub-weapons on the bosses :/
