I feel the cruithne and picts of Scotland did have an indo-european line akin to the gaels that followed but that they had a strong nordic line also unlike the gaels.what I am studying at the moment seems to agree with this theory. Indeed todays gaels do have a basque background to some extent as the rheus neg blood grouping here and with basques would indicate.

1969203 Many of the low landers..believe or not especially Dumfries and Galloway had started off in the highlands and drifted down through economic reasons and they can trace their line back to the Dalriadans who came from Ireland in the first place..their names were Anglicised. Many were and are cruithin decendants so in a sense they were returning.

I feel the cruithne and picts of Scotland did have an indo-european line akin to the gaels that followed but that they had a strong nordic line also unlike the gaels.what I am studying at the moment seems to agree with this theory. Indeed todays gaels do have a basque background to some extent as the rheus neg blood grouping here and with basques would indicate.

THE TRUTH A new study by the University of Edinburgh(2010) has found more than 3,700 soldiers from the south of Ireland died on active service during WWII.
Their names join those of almost 3,600 fallen combatants from Northern Ireland on a roll of honour being unveiled at Trinity College Dublin on Friday.
The study estimates that in the British army alone, as many as 100,000 people from the island of Ireland served in WWII, despite the Irish Free State's neutrality in the conflict

The video won't tell you that more people from the Irish Republic died in ww2 fighting for Britain than those from Ulster.Most loyalists stayed at home to work in the war industries and profiteer from the war.

@lestat1591 Ah, the Ulster Third Way! I agree on a political level, but I don't think it's a probable, or viable option. The best hope is to remain part of the Union, and the advantages and protection that affords the people of Ulster against her enemies. Then again, if there was a sudden conversion of 4 million Catholics south of the border, I wouldn't mind a united Ireland so much. For me, it's not so much about identity, but the freedom to of association and religion.

The political/electoral/media consensus across the UK and the Republic is for the maintenance of the status quo and that means leaving Northern Ireland exactly as it is. So in my view unionism – with a big U – is stronger today than it has been for decades. Sinn Fein (as well as the SDLP) will continue to promote eventual unity but I suspect that both of them now recognise that the unity project has been dealt a near fatal blow by recent events – and not just the Royal visit

Oh! And for your information, it was Protestants who founded the IRA, not Catholics. It was also great Protestants like Wolfe Tone who began the first big fights for Irish freedom. Other great Protestants who tried to gain Irish freedom, were Sir Roger Casement, one of the greatest human rights activists ever. They all saw how our ancestors, the Protestants invaders of Ireland, treated their Catholic neighbours, and were so outraged, they started an army fighting for the native Irish rights.
