Haha your annoyance with the "artist who knows nothing about audio" is pretty funny. But really- foam can be good, reflections can be bad. There are some good sites where you type in your room dimensions and purpose and it will give you a good base for absorption and deflection so it will sound good for you and feel good for singers. Oh and heads up- your bass traps will work best in corners and 90degree angles where bass congregates the most.
hey just out of curiosity, can you just put a windscreen on your mic and not bother with the foam panels on the wall? i still live at home since i'm only 20, and my room that i record in is massive. so i can't be putting a bunch of foam all over the place. that would take a long time, and be a bit costly. I have a Shure studio compressor mic, so i was thinking i could just use a pop filter and windscreen for the mic. what do you think?
hey man. nice lil studio you got there. not junky at all, actually quite the opposite. its nice and minimal. could be tidied up a bit, thats it. also i like how you got the screens ontop of each other. where there side by side theres no center focus...also i agree with the other ppl the foam is a good idea. last thing i wanted to ask if you modded your mpk pads? i just ordered an mpk25 and plan on modding the pads to make the more sensitive.
The mix on the song is horrible dude u need to take some mixing classes or somethin cuz u made all the beginner mistakes with the entire mix and the vocals ewww..need some work man foreal
i thought this vid was gonna b a joke, naw i'm pretty impressed. question about the bass traps tho, do you actually notice a difference with em? it looks like it wouldn't work, weird concept
Someone should make a video of the Mpk49 From start to finish how to access the instruments and sound to how to record using reason in all .Had Mpk 49 for about month now still lost .This is not a plug in go kind of Keyboard at all.I am not sure if mines dont work or my lack of knowledge of said machine .
yo can u help me im lookn to make a studio im not grown r have a job so im on a budget can u tell me some stuff i would need lik recording software keyboards help me
Two things u could that r free and would totally help ur sound r to put those acoustic panels in the corners (where excess bass builds up) and to put that acoustic foam you've got in your closet spaced evenly along the walls of your main room. U get a much better sound if u just record in your main room. This is because in a professional recording studio they have booths the size of your control room that they track in
dude i've seen junkie and some dudes on youtube should be slapped for puttin up videos with unmade beds, dirty ass socks and drawers pizza boxes, etc. and got the nerve to brag...But your stuff is str8...Good work!
He is right, those vocal booth are unecesary today if you have a decent acoustic treated room and if you know how to use compressors and manage vocal performances well
nice set up for a home studio man,i'm getting ready to go to school to get my masters in producing with protools, i'm more of a on the recording type of guy, so i'm just now starting up a home studio, i like your projector idea, not only is it useful for you, but when your recording someone, it's sweet when they watch you mix
i use the mac...running reason and logic......way to many plugins to name if u give me a genral idea of what u tryna do i can tell you the plugins best for that setup
Actually those are 4 foam panels in the entire closet...I'm not wrong..I'm making the acoustics dead by doing that. I won't get into it now cuz I'm on my BB..but I will be back
I agree that you have 4 panels. I was addressing what you said in your video that "you really don't need this foam." When in fact you do and I am explaining why and I am glad that you do. I am just trying to help you out. Take care.
Nice set up. I just wanted to correct you on something that is very important if you ever consider getting into audio engineering as a profession. The foam in the vocal booth has a very important function no matter if the booth is a closet or not. The foam minimizes second order reflections so there wont be any standing waves or frequency cancelation picked up by the mic. The library is a great source to start learning to take your studio and recording quality to the next level. Good luck!
@shabak101 yes sir the foam is very very very very importantwhen it come down to reflection off the dry wall...your voice bounces off any surface and the reflection are unfix-able and mixing the reflections over your voice will cause a noticable muffle ore cardboard sounding vocal...So u need finishthe rest of the closet cuz like i said voice bounces off any surface like taht uncovered back wall and the ceiling...look into some music facts dog before u say people dont know anything
yo. I LOVE your studio. I just bought a projector and I want to do the same thing you did. Im going to buy a macmini. is it Okay if I contact you for connections with projector, mac, interfaces and all that?
no it does not. its a midi controller. not a synthesizer workstatin. I have an axiom and im very happy with it but I was actually going to expand by getting an m,pk49 also =D so as for which is better Im not necessarily sure but Id recommend axioms, there great.
it depends, the MPK is nice as fuck, the Axiom works better with Pro Tools...the MPK is more if you use Reason...I have a Axiom 25 and I just bought a MPK49...I dont really like the feel of the Axiom, its really just personal preference
hey um can help me out?? ok, i have a ssm-750 its a type of beat maker but idk how to huck it up to my keyboard and cd recorder which is a phillips cd recorder and i got the mic and everything i need but idk how 2 connect it all so could u leave me a message telling me how to do it anybody if u knw how 2 do it i would greatlly appreciate it if u did.thanx
keep it up you heading in the right direction and i started off small to now im a owner of my own label you dont have to have a major studio to be in the big leagues i dont have a big studio and i have a big disturbution deal with def jam records if your music sound good thats all that matters check me out maybe one day you can produce a beat for my artist

projector for work area = fail
Your eyes will suffer from switching from backlit monitor to the wall and projectors aren't meant for extended use.
foam/secondary sound suppression not being necessary? You alsways want the purest samples possible before editing them and adding reverb, ect.
hint for limited budget sound deadening material: EGG Crates!!! (painted black so you will not look like a de, de, de)

Thats the point. make it dead. Your trying to capture the voice itself not the crap bouncing off the walls. You can add that later
jonkrempel 2 years ago 9
almost...not really.....dead is not really realistic....and it all depends on your space
