but wait theres more... the white ballance on the flip is wayyy off compared to the Kodak... you are using a yellow light the kodak is catching the "REAL" color so if you want real color get the kodak just look @ the color the lights are yellow your face is yellow the flip adds way to much red and changes the true color your other vid on the Zi8 is way better quality finally!!!! whenever you get any camera... dont use yellow light.. use white light cause it would make either camera look great

@M24solutions You make good points, however Flip did do that for a reason - most people use/have yellow lighting. They're catering to that. I think people should choose their camera based on what conditions they feel they'll be filming in most often. If it'll be indoors, in more yellow lighting than the Flip would be the better choice. If they're shooting outdoors or in nice, white lighting the Zi8 would be the camera to go with.

Very rarely am i so imspired to coment on a video.... but I couldnt resist... OK to thecreativeone... in your video comparison can you not see the difference in the quality of the cameras... the Flip is intentionally designed to be "LOW QUALITY" the colors are not retcher they are over saturated in the flip to compensate for people using yellow light! which is exactly what you are doing... take both out into the sun and then ask which has better quaulity.

Hey David, love the videos. Kudos on helping me choose my new cam from your reviews. I settled on the Kodak Playsport. It takes the good from the Zi8 and Flip MinoHD and combines IMO. If you were looking for a new cam to review/own, the Playsport might be worthy. Neg might be bat life, low light performance, no flip around screen and no macro. Pos great video, water proof, eis, clear video turned forward or back on yourself, removable battery for charging, removable SD card,remote control option

I've only stated that the Kodak Zi8 has more features than the Flip MinoHD, and I still 100% stand by that. I never once said the Flip cameras are bad. I simply said the Zi8 offers more for the price. Believe me, I would NEVER put down a product that I haven't properly used.

Anyone looking at either of these cameras should consider the sanyo VPC-CG10BK. I have one and for $20.00 less than the flip it has video stabilization the ability to take 10mp stills, it even has 5x optical zoom which is unheard of for cameras in this price range.

I've heard that the Kodak Zi8 needs a certain type of SD card to handle the HD footage. What's the card called? And how much does it cost?

I use the Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS16GSDHC6-S5W (exact title on Amazon). It works great and comes with a memory card reader, which is a big plus to me.

As for cost, Amazon currently sells it for $44.95.

go back to the Panasonic GS-500, do you really need high def for video blogs? not to mention all those flip cams are totally pointless if you have to use them in any sort of motion. they need to be on a stable surface or tripod at ALL times. the image stabilization is garbage, garbage, garbage!

Agreed. Video quality is actually pretty similar in well lit areas, especially with natural light. In low conditions, the MinoHD definitely wins by a large margin.

I have the Flip Ultra HD, here's a trick you may have heard before: use a magnifying glass in front of the flips lens - it produces amazing DIY macro footage.

I prefer the Flips quality, but the lack of features compared to the Zi8 is annoying. Thanks for the awesome video as always :)

Actually the video in 720p HD looks like complete crap! For $230 you get a piece of crap toy and no it is NOT worth even $99. The pixelation in what you call 720p is just horrible. If you want to see good HD video quality take a look at my Sega Dreamcast unboxing video in which I use a Canon PowerShot SD 960 IS. It records in 720p. Compare the two videos side-by-side and you'll see the difference.

Okay yes I agree it's not COMPLETE crap but considering a digital camera's HD recording capabilities are better than a dedicated camcorder's is pretty wrong.....My Canon SD960 IS outperforms the MinoHD and is on par with your Zi8 from Kodak. When you compare your Zi8 and the MinoHD you can tell the Mino falls far behind. The video looks like it is heavily compressed even though it outputs 720p so either it has crappy bitrate or a crappy video chip. Flips are just a trend for young people.
