I have this and more or less satisfied with it. Its image stabilization is excellent. It has many features than will is normally seen in a DSLR.

It is good for people trying to learn professional photography but sans an expensive DSLR.

The only complain is that the AA batteries used dies very early. Use good rechargeable batteries.

Canon camera is not reliable, easy to have technical problem.

It really just depends on what kind of batteries you use. If you use Dollar General batteries.. it may just last a day, thats how long it lasted for me anyway. Now i use Litheum Batteries... they last for a month or so. and I'm not sure about the other question.

depends.... if you use flash so you cant! it takes some time as you said. but without a flash in a day light ect.. its really fast ... and also you can cancel the preview delay ...

i think there's and i used it one time if im not wrong! but i just forgot and my camera it's not with me right now...

so i'll let you know if it's possible or not as soon as i get my camera at the end of the week! meanwhile try this switch to camera mode and press "set" then search for "single shot" and change it! if i remember correctly... see ya!

Try turning it on whilst its plugged in.

first install the drivers of the CD that comes with the camera, after that your computer will restart and when you plug it and turn it on it will detect it automatically

The free CHDK software kit that is added into the memory card makes it possible to add extra features to this nice camera (and to many other Canon PowerShot & IXUS cameras).

Hey CANON, What happened to the A590?!

I bought one for Christmas and I've been recommending it to everyone since, but Canon pulled it from our shelves. We wanted to get another one and cannot find one in Canada. I guess ppl stopped buying the more expensive models when the A590 came out. This is so much camera for so little money, no wonder.

For the price it's selling at, sub $150, it's a very good camera. The image quality is above most cameras in this price range as well as costing more. There is lots of manual features for creative photography. I think image quality and noise is as good as you're gonna get in this price point. 8MP is ideal for most users. I can't imagine how much storage space one requires if one gets the newest 12 MP or greater cameras. The only knock is video quality.

I just ordered this same camera off of Amazon after having trouble with a Kodak zd2826 is...The quality of Kodak cameras has diminished over the years, a shame they haven't kept up with the quality of other brands...I don't think Kodak has even hopped into the SLR market! with that said, I can't wait the play with this little thing!

I've got a A590 and the guy in the video has got most things right, but one thing is not really clear.

Sure it can do video at 640x480 and 30fps, BUT not at the same time.

It can do 640x480 at 20fps, OR 320x240 at 30fps.

If you think that is a problem have a look at the A1000.

I believe the A590 i about to be discontinued.

I got mine for a very good price, and I am very happy with it.

Congrats! The supplied SD card is way to small. Get a 4GB card right away, and that'll be plenty for a while. The camera cant store more than 9999 shots, and the 4GB card actually will max out the available shots left in the snapshot mode.

1st of all, dn't bothr if you havn't gt the atachmnts. But if you mst be crious, the trick is to not squeeze the ring. Hld the cmra body in sch a way as to dpress the rlease bttn with your lft thmb. It'll hlp if yr rght hnd is slghtly tcky. While dpressng the rlease bttn, strt gntly wgglng th rng clckwse/cntrclckwse. It's mde of plstc which is why u cn't sqze 2 hrd. U'll hv 2 b jst as crfl secring it bck on, bt u'll hr/fl a clck nce it's back in place.

The fit is very precisely machined!!

Nope, not usable as a webcam, unless you feed its NTSC/PAL [analog] output to a capture device that supports web streaming. the USB (2) jack works in playback ONLY.

These are GREAT cameras. I don't understand how it is that they're so cheap?! 640x480 video at 30-fps, huge range of adjustment for all the built-in settings, small size, great deal. Drop a large memory card in there plus some lithium batteries and you're set for a long time.

This guy might want to redo this review, because he said the video mode does 30 fps at 640 x 800, and that's wrong. It's 20 fps unless your drop the pixels to 320 x 240, but I'm not sure how much that compromises the video quality. :( Does anyone have this camera, and if so, can you please give more insight?

two problems:

short batteries live in Auto mode about 30+ pictures with flash, you will get a battery change alarm. without Flash, roughly 100 pics.

fine pic mode takes much longer for the camera to digest. Really pissed off is whenever try capture an image, it always miss due to lag time. Especially after the 2nd attempt, not to mention the picture quality could be awful and lots of noise.

i dont know. it has a lot of features.

-runs on AA batteries. (not expensive rechargable battery that if its not charged you are screwed)

-lets you change shutter speed and f/stop manually like a SLR camera.

-nice screen on back

-battery life excellent (i think so)

-takes videos

but indoor pictures are grainy. raising ISO makes more GRAIN. you can use the flash but flash always RUINS my pictures. so i dont know. the grain is the biggest problem. i dont think the amount of grain is normal.
