What a truly amazing performance. I remember watching it live as if it were yesterday. Even back then everyone knew Michael would break away some day and become something extraordinary. It seems that it was after his voice changed. Between that time he probably wasn't singing too much hence having more time to come up with new stuff. His shoes even changed (no more heels).

Nope. Michael started spinning at the beginning of the Jackson 5 hype. Though not as much, in early performances he would usually do one spin a song. He had such an amazing voice when he was young that he was focusing on his voice instead of complicated dance moves. Not that he didn't eventually change that once he got older and his voiced changed.
