The most amazing thing about Kramnik is that he try's to be ruthlessly precise and objective and that he's unpersuadable and psychologically very stable - he can take a lot of pressure - but in combinations like these it's beyond one's comprehension so you simply have to take the bate - which proves the power of the initiative. It's interesting how he gave Kasparov so much play on the king side in the middle game, which can't be a lack of skill, rather a lack of motivation to crush the opponent
wow I can't believe kramnik played that last move!! I've watched videos of this game maybe 3 4 times before this but I never realized just how bad his last move was... Amazing game by Kasparov as always, thanks a lot sean for putting up these videos... you have a great commentating voice
Nice video and commentary, the only thing missing is the analysis of what black would do had he not blundered his queen on the last move... is it at all possible to salvage a draw?
I think a draw is pretty much impossible. Ignoring the immediate piece pressure that white has on the black king, there is no quick and easy way to stop the g pawn from zoooming up the board and queening. It's only a matter of time; I think Kramnik could have reasonably resigned instead of blundering!
Great job! I'm a beginner at chess and I couldn't understand all the moves without commentation. Now I can see what an incredible game Kasparov played. Thanks a lot! I have a question though: what do you think was Kramnik's best move before his last blunder?
Hi, thanks and glad you are enjoying the vids! Hmmm Kramnik's best move - hard to say really, he defended well in general until the end. I think his Qd5 move in the opening was probably the best of the game as it gave black some good initiative so early in the game, and apprently either won a pawn or stopped white from castling. Only someone like Kasparov could get away with castling anyway! I recommend the Bobby Fischer games I did if you want to see some great moves =0) All the best,
Yes, the queen is better, but it makes no difference really - the point is that black must capture the rook/queen with his own queen or it will be mate, and white is left with a winning position. All the best,
Thats just tight. Chess videos on youtube. I'm not even being sarcastic. I couldn't stop watching and I don't know why cause I'm not that interested in chess. Sounds like a successful video to me. Keep doing what your doing man I enjoyed it.
Ha! Thanks very much man. Yes, there was so much to talk about in these games that 11 minutes wasn't enough so I figued I'd do them in doubles. Glad you're enjoying them!
Incredible game. Excellent commentary. As far as the game ending blunder, IMO, you could only imagine the immense pressure of the moment esp after the last 6 or 8 moves. Up until the queen sac, Kramnik probably thought at best he may win, at worst a draw. Then came hxg6! Makes me feel a little sick just watching it, mutch less being on the receiving end of the ensuing onslaught that followed. Both are great players and I believe their overall match record is about equal?
What a soul crushing last blunder. Even with time trouble that's a fairly bad blunder for Kramnik's level. Poor guy. Great game as usual Sean, cheers.
knight takes f4 was a blunder ,, why not rook g8?

Great video.
After hxg6, my instinct would be to play Nxg6 hoping for Rxb6 to follow with Bc8.

I am a big fan of both of these players. I checked their game history on the chessgames website and found:
Out of 122 games there were 79 draws.
Kasparov won 22 games - 15 with white, 7 with black.
Kramnik won 21 games. 13 with white, 8 with black.
Quite a classic match up of tremendous talent.
