Tha'ts true.... Duke showed there team chemistry after losing to UNLV in 1990.... THEY went on one helluva run...... That team was mentally tough and there chemistry was amazing....  Wasn't about super-stars it was about TEAM....

thats what hurt unlv going through a weak conference never being tested,duke took the hard road and was tested all year and that helped them when they faced unlv.

I respectfully disagree. The 1991 UNLV team played a tough non-conference schedule which included going on the road and beat #2 Arkansas, scoring 112 in the process. That's the most points ever scored against a #2 ranked team...and, again, it was done in front of a hostile crowd. They also beat my Top 10 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, who in the NCAA tournament put up a fight against Duke before the Blue Devils pulled away in the 2nd half...

arkansas may have been ranked number 2 but they certainly werent deserving of that rank since they did nothing come tournament time,and unlv is in one of the weakest conferences in the country and proof of that is unlv was the only team to even go to the ncaa tourney,duke had to play teams like carolina and at arizona and the tough schedule showed come tournament time you shouldnt go by rankings since they mean nothing and the tournament proved that.

duke made it to the final four6 years in a row when they took on unlv in 91 so they were ready,and grant hill and bobby hurley and laettner were much better than they were in 90,losing to unlv by 30 also gave duke more incentive for revenge to beat this team.

Absolutely, UNLV was way to over confident from their domination the year before and guys like Thomas Hill, Davis, Hurley, Laettner (remember, Grant Hill was a Frosh in 1991, he wasnt there a year earlier) were out for revenge and it hurt UNLV. Still though, it was an amazing game, and it still hurts we couldn't come through in the end.

as a current UNLV student, part of me feels pretty good for THIS Duke team for their 1991 run (I mean look at what it meant to Brian Davis for his late game lay up against the Rebs), but part of me stings inside because I believe UNLV 1990-91 was the best team to ever play college basketball and because of one unfortunate loss to an inspired duke team in the final four will forever keep the world from considering them even up there.

I am a Duke fan and I agree with your statements. IMO the best three teams of the last 30 years never actually won a championship(Georgetown 95, UNLV 91, and Duke 99). But that what makes college so great. I salute you for how great that team was!

In the 30 years I've watched college basketball, the biggest "locks" to win the title have been: 1981 DePaul, 1983 Houston; 1985 Georgetown; 1991 UNLV; 1997 Kansas; and 1999 Duke!

I see your defensive stance of Coach K. which he has proven to be a consistent winner before and after this game in 1991. What I am getting at is that the UNLV team was just great, it was the 'perfect storm' for duke. On that note, im still amazed to this day that the 1999 Duke Team lost the NCAA final, that in my opinion was the best Duke team.
