  • Joystick thing you can screw into there... I'll just be quiet.

  • "There was a little joystick thingy that you could screw into there." Yeah that sounds awesome!

  • That's right. Lay down and protest.

  • Earthquake happened 10 minutes ago in NJ!!

  • they must be less rare where i am ? or i just got lucky? cos I own two of these and they both still have the screw in thingy..the best part is i got them both really cheap!

  • where did you get that?

  • I got one of those controllers (known as CX78 Proline) off of eBay for $39.99 (free shipping ftw) and yes, it does work with the US 7800! After using this controller, I too wonder why Atari didn't import this one here in the States as an alternative to the controllers we got. Heck, it might have helped its chances sales-wise.

  • the music made me feel sad.

  • I found two of these at a thrift store for 99 cents.

  • @GizmoFan1 you lucky son of a gun... I can't find them anywhere for under 30 bucks!

  • what kind of dog is that?

  • I love stella :D

  • i just put a screw in it and it worked

  • Imagine if you're looking for this item on ebay or another site. What keywords would you use, and why?

  • Ahhh...The good ol' days when Nintendo dominated the mark... Oh wait. Doh!

  • Thanks a lot DOG i dont drool on ur things. XD ROFL

  • Why couldn't we have that Atari controller!?

  • its four in the morning and i cant stop watching cgr ddaaaahhhhhh

  • @Mdonkin961 That´s exactly what actually my issue is... ^^ (well actually it isn´t four in the morning but the fact that I´m again watching cgr for hours should speak for itself..)

  • DO A REVIEW ON STELLA :D

  • Comment removed

  • What kind of dog is that?

  • omg the dog was cute! =D

  • Is the little joystick on the 7800 gamepad supposed to unscrew easily from the controller? I just got one and I would rather play it without the stick, but I can't seem to get it to unscrew (I'm also afraid to use much force cause I really don't want to break the pad!)

  • Now, if Atari expected to compete with the NES, they needed a controller that was just as good as theirs! That looks MUCH better than the infamous Pain Line joysticks (TM)

  • What happened to stella I miss her D:

  • How are you supposed to pause games?

  • @blues03 There is a pause button on the console

  • @thatguyontheright1 Jesus Christ

  • lol nintendo gamepads suck they make my fingers hurt

  • i do have one complain about that controller is that the 1 2 buttons are too far aprt so if theres like a run button and jump button (like mario) unless you have huge fucking thumbs you cant really do a run jump

  • We also got these controllers with the 2600 junior here in Denmark. Funne enough, both the ones i got with the junior i bought used, were defective, so i have to refurbish them at some point. Luckely enough i found a 7800 in box, so i still have a couple of functioning controllers at least.

    Great video. :)

  • 2:35 is funny

  • weird?? i never saw anything like that..

  • Love Stella

  • @vittau no you love VIRAL DOG

  • the dog just made the video a lot more charming, thumb up if you agree

  • @slayermate07 not really i had to skip the dog.

  • @slayermate07 Classic Game Room reviews would be nothing without Stella.

  • 2:41 300 video game reviews?! sheesh, it currently has 1361 vids as of 5:13 pm of monday July 19 2010.

  • recently got a pair and i love them. still the sega genesis controllers rule

  • Who maks the song

  • Look i have M & Ms on my atari 7800 controller!

  • Stella like the 2600's codename :D. Im a big fan of Classic Game Room here in Spain and i watch all of your videos here on youtube. Cool reviews, funny and i like when you show a controller to your dog XD i think stella thinks "What's this thing?, whats going on? well no problem i'll show a bit of interest and he'll give me a cookie XD

    Greetings from Spain guys!

  • @yamiharu84 BTW:Yep this controller is better They made the first 7800 controller thinking about the classic Atari style and also about the 5200 controller but removing the keypad mmmm maybe their idea was "Well the people dont like the 5200 controller cause it have this keypad so... we'll make the 7800 controller like the 5200 without the keypad" uncomfortable buttons (on the sides) and a bad joystick... This one is an awesome controller for an awesome console :).

  • i thought the american control was the original design for the foot pedal for the rock band drum set

  • your dog is so cute he's like the second judge

  • lmfao at 2:33

  • What type of dog is that? I wanna give it a hug...

  • @xFalloutVids, Stella is a German Shepherd/Chow Chow breed.

  • i only watch your vids for the dog

  • I would've preferred a Joystick instead of a D-Pad.

  • your doggie looks like mine. wkwkwk. shareyehh,

  • We got those controllers that you got for the 7800 with the 2600 over here. They came with the rarer short rainbow 2600s.

  • nice dog.

  • nice dog.

  • hehe my doig is also named Stella but Its a Golden Retriever

  • I love controllers that have a matte finish :-)

  • Review the dog

  • Are these compatiable with American 7800s?

  • @cloob1, yes

  • @Ollie7475,

Hell yes! I bought a couple off eBay from a Spanish seller and they're the best!

  • @cloob1, good for you! I had an extreme problem that made me smash the American controller; I don't care if it said Atari. I got this controller, and I agree, they're the best!

  • Maybe Mark should drool on Stella's stuff for payback :D

  • I like how the buttons look like M&Ms

  • LOL... "Lay down and protest." Nice. :)

  • Ahh. Theres nothing like having a milkshake and watching a shitload of CGR episodes on a sunday morning :D

  • gotta go back to school tomorrow after two months of missing it

  • Hell Yeah!

  • @SpaceLlama69 replace milkshake with beer and pepperoni stick sandwhiches and you are really talking

  • @SpaceLlama69 i got a milkshake after readin your comment.

  • @SpaceLlama69 Awesome,I should do that sometime myself.

  • Yeah, but why would you want to?

  • can you play a 7800 controller on a 2600

  • @King0fSand Yep.

  • Looks like Master system controler!

  • nice your dog is a gamer jaja so funny

  • Your dog is awesome. She looks a lot like my dog, Buster (named after the silent film comedian Joseph Francis Keaton).

Anyhoo, I've been trying to find one of those joypads for the last 3 years or so, I'm always broke when they show up on ebay, and people want exorbitant amounts of money for them at game expos. It's not fair, dammit.

  • I agree!

  • hey man i'm a huge fan of your videos.

    keep up the good work.

    PS:your dog is awesome!!!

  • you can use a genesis gamepad on an atari

  • That 7800 controller looks good, a bit more rounded than the Nes controller, I never played the 7800, I have never even seen one in the flesh! The only Atari controller I experienced was the iconic joystick with the single red button!!

  • @katakisLives i got one last friday, and yeah, it's good! the only problem is the two buttons, its a litte awkward to hit both because they aren't close enough together.

TheD-Pad sucks a bit, it often happens that you accidently hit up or down if you're not careful. But it's not a bad controller.

  • I got so tired of the prolines hurting my hands I went on and dumped 50 bucks on these.

The more 7800 games you own, the more worth it these things become.

  • what a good dog

  • Nice video. I was wondering I am planning on getting commando for my Atari 7800 and I have found a gamepad on ebay. I already have two proline controllers though would you still recommend getting the gamepad if I have two proline controllers.

  • It's up to you. I personally CAN play with a Proline, but my hands kill me after about 5 waves of Galaga, or about 10 minutes on most other games. Plus, my proline has a problem with going right, so I bought some of these joypads.

You could always play witht eh 2600 controllers, but many actions (bombs in Xevious, for example) all happen at once, so you lose out on the option of using some actions later.

Most games work with it though, so worth a shot every now and then. :D

  • the buttons on the NES controller always felt to me like a couple of Smarties candies.

  • agreed

  • rockets in canada right

  • @evilmidget Are you mentioning that because of the M & Ms on this controller?

    They look tasty.

  • @evilmidget on the snes controller, two of the buttons are smarties and the other two are sprees!

  • @TheCuster58 or sweet tarts. lol

  • @evilmidget ya they do

  • @evilmidget is that an insult or a compliment,or neither?

  • @evilmidget I ate mine... ;)

  • @evilmidget You were right I actually had feelings I ate the buttons.

  • seems like the indentions on the front and triangle on the back would sear into your fingers and palm.

  • if i use a sega controller, will both buttons work for the atari 7800?

  • Sure do i think it was c and b wen used to do it

  • Actually, depending on the game, not really. The software interperates all those buttons differently, and some games, like Dark Chambers, act really messed up. Some act like there is just a 2600 controller in, and other don't do anything.

  • "Today we're going to talk about injustice."

    Nice

  • And Sega Genesis controllers work, right??

  • so cool video game

  • hahahahahahhahaha...

the dog drooled on the controller

  • i love that dog

  • lol "thats right lay down and protest

  • What kind of dog is that?

  • cool dog

  • Where can you get one of these? I've looked all over ebay but I can't find one... can someone help me please?

  • just write on ebay atari 7800 ,then click the atari you want then sign up and bye it ...

  • not the atari.. the controler... -.- I have the atari but i hate the controler it comes with so I was asking where to find THIS CONTROLER...

  • ok..

  • I believe a Master System or Genesis controller should work just the same if you're not picky.

  • i liked the 7800 controer

  • the CDI also had a stick-thingy that you chould screw in the d-pad for one of the types of controllers but it was too big and too narrow

  • Great vid, we actually got those Joypads boxed with the 2600jr to, here en Denmark. :) Can't really see why, i don't know of any 2600 games, that uses both buttons..

Great gamepads, but the wires are waaay to short.. :)

  • graet vid

  • what breed of dog is his dog?

  • german shepard and cockapoo I think

  • i found out its a German Shepherd/ Chow Chow. im getting one!

  • good for you. they're awesome, and so damn cute :)

  • thanks. hey you like AVGN? hes awesome isnt he?

  • yep, his batman episode is one of my personal favorite episodes

  • yeah i like the atari 5200 one

  • yeah, they're both great episodes. though I must say I prefer CGR, but AVGN is at a VERY close second

  • the gamepad is the samething as the sms gamepad

  • Mark mentions that he lost the little stick for his 7800 gamepad at about 0:53

However in the old CGR review of Ninja Golf he still has it. So now we have to work out at what precise point it went missing. It'll take our greatest scientific minds to crunch those numbers, but I'm confident in our abilities as CGR nerds ^_^

  • o i like these controller

  • isnt there a joystick attached to the depad

  • Basically, yes

  • I just ordered one of these from Best Electronics. Can't wait for it to arrive.

  • And it just arrived! :)

  • It took over a week? I can only assume it was imported from a long way away.

  • US to Canada can take a long time.

  • wait, do you know a we page where i can find retro consoles, games and controllers (preferably new)!

  • I got mine from Best Electronics.

Check out my look at this same gamepad.

  • the anolog controllers were only in america, i thought they were here too!

  • I have a 7800 and I have never ever needed a seperate button. It works fine with the regular atari joystick. The 7800 has the best version of Ms pacman period.

  • at 1:27 you gotta love that dream cast chicken launcher :D

  • aint it handy? must be woth the money i should get that for my dog 0.o XD

  • Is there anything the Dreamcast can't do? Expect beat the PS2's sales, sadly.

  • My old dog looked like yours and was also named stella R.I.P

  • poor puppy R.I.P. ='''(

  • huh?!... Stella's dead?! O.O

  • I don't think so, and I sure hope not

  • oh, they were talkin about

    Zxander34's dog. ^^;

  • i love your dog.

  • Agree! I wanna see more stella episodes ;D

  • Why is every single game pad in the entire history of video gaming, LEFT HANDED???

The original Atari joysticks were right handed. Then there were sticks with buttons on both sides for right or left handed people. Suddenly the NES comes along and it's universally decided that every video game controller from then on will be left handed!

Even arcade games are now made with left handed controls. WHY???

  • i dot know

  • beacause a majority of people are right hander and the left hand n games is just for moving you use your pradominint hand for controls such as firing or punching.

  • In many games, the movement is the most complicated portion of the game. With most older games, you usually only needed a couple of buttons.

For example, in R-Type, you need to dodge almost constantly, but you just need to either pump the fire button or hold it down. The button to disconnect the Force, only gets used occasionally.

Does it really make sense to use your least co-ordinated hand for moving and your most co-ordinated hand for simply mashing a couple buttons?

  • hmm u got a point there i would really wanna see a controller that would be left handed even though im right handed :P

  • I hate being left handed for games where you have to keep pressing the button completely.

  • "I don't droll on your things"

    Lulz.

    Epic Lulz.

  • lol at the dog, they eat everything!

  • do a review of the atari jaguar controller LOLS :D

  • I love "back in the day"!
