  • awesome!

  • My favorite by this band no doubt.....the lyrics are questionble but overlooking them....besides some of the better songs just happened to have heatbroken lyrics and I can't think of a better example than Ronnie Savoy's, "And the Heavens Cried", which was a hit about the same time as Billy was around. Great uncle hey....anyway thx4 postin'. .

  • My Great-Uncle is Mike Linehan one of the Essentials!

  • Great lost 45 here. I also like "Over The Weekend" as well.

  • Where would I have found these five guys looking good & hanging out in the school cafeteria? answer....you wouldn't! Oh there was Bob W, Ian S & Ernie Z....Now that's only 3 of them but there's suppose to be 5 of them that made up Billy & the Essentials, but they were not seen around our school that's for God-damn sure. There all new to me....... I don't believe I ever heard of them before. Thx4 postin'

  • I can relate a lot to this song

  • One summer, I worked as a cabana boy at the pool at the Presidential Apts. on City Line Ave. One of the guys I worked with (Don) said his brother was one of the Essentials. Anyone know Don or his brother?

Great rendition of the old classic. Billy sure does have a voice.

  • I'm Don's daughter, Rita. My uncle Phil was one of the Essentials and he's still singing with another group. You can find Don DiAntonio on Facebook or email him at donato_diantonio@yahoo.com.

  • second only to Joel Katz's version

  • Terrific Stereo!

  • Bill Carlucci and the Essentials took and Old Standard from the 1930's and added just the right musical and singing ingredients to have a hit record. Bill told me that the up tempo rhythm and Trombone was the key to the songs success. The group broke up and reunited many times. I still see Billy now and again in Jersey or Philly on special apperances.

  • The song has become a true standard since it's writing in 1947. Also recorded as a ballad by Lee Andrews & the Hearts.
