It reminds me of Merula's Ciaccona for two violins and basso continuo, especially in the beginning. Is there any chance that Tranquinio ifluenced Matteis or vice versa?
The openning bars are Soooo sweet and has such potential to continue the beauty...... and then all fails....If listerners wish to hear a more pleasing interpretation they should visit that posted by Mephisto0cl.....I wish to cause no offence, but this posted version is an interpretation i do not find pleasing, but then this is the wonder of music: one mans meat is anothers poision..there is something out there to suit everyones pallette.

It reminds me of a Bertali's Ciaccona. Was Matteis influenced by Bertali or vice versa?

Bravo pour l'illustration, ces images rappellent les sculptures et gargouilles des cathédrales gothiques.

Fantastic string music - I absolutely love it, since I can get "lost" in the plethora of instruments strumming in my ears, all at once!
Thanks!
