The diesel particulate filters (DPF) can be purchased through various engine manufacturer vendors. Some include Donaldson, Caterpillar, International, etc.
There are electronics involved in the DPF installation and for the warranty to be valid, the vendor has to install it. They also need to be cleaned about every 100,000 or once a year. With that said all 2007 on road heavy duty diesel vehicles already have a DPF installed from the factory (US EPA regulation).
The two buses are Internationals. Yes, the 2nd hanky is much better because that bus is retrofitted with a diesel particulate filter while the other one is not.
Diesel pollution is a big deal. It is one reason why nearly on-third of Ohio counties are failing federal air quality standards. If we don't remedy this problem the state is looking at an expansion of the e-check program and the possibility of highway funds being with held. Also, diesel exhaust contributes to many deaths in Ohio.
This press event was held in Stark County, Ohio for Minvera Local Schools and Alliance City Schools who were awarded an Ohio EPA grant for emission control technology.
