HIs best tune! Dunno why this was always my favorite growin up. And Im a woman. Hehe! I remember there was a little game room/pool hall (NOT a bar!) out in the boonies where I lived at the time - they had an old juke box. THIS was the only song I'd play on it. Bummer summers- no money- no car-no decent parental figures (if there are any? har har har) Had nothin- but dammit I loved this song. Thanks again for these tunes. "Jen"
First time I saw the Bob Seger System was in 1970 at the old Orlando Sports Stadium. They opened for Country Joe and the Fish. I became an instant Seger fan and have seen him dozens of times since. This is one of my favorite Seger songs.
I remember this on a 45 back in the day when no one knew who Bob Seger was. They used to spin this one at every Saturday night dance.......You Gen Y folks don't know what you missed!.....
I just got back from the show in Greenville SC......he was great but it's not the same as when he plays Detroit....In Nutbush he just cut the part about Detroit out of the song...I love you bob but wtf??
Good stuff right here, always liked this song, seldom heard on todays radio too. Pops up on Sirius however every now and again.
Total aside note, I watched an interview with Jack White with a Vancouver BC interviewer named Nardwuar, real good talk about the Bob Seger Sound System in the interview. Not taking away limelight from Seger but check out Nardwuar Vs. White Stripes, pretty funny, insightful interview on the Bob Seger Sound System comes up.
ha! the wiki generation of looking it up quick and assuming....Dickie Betts can shove his sunburst les paul up Greg Allman's ass cuz Duane was his master anyway, and BS slays them all!
Bob Seger wrote this song. Dickie Betts sang with the Allman Brothers and that was Ramblin Man. Two different songs. Figured I would say something about it.
Bob was known as THE BOB SEGAR SYSTEM back in 1969 when this came out and it still rocks!

This was on Mongrel, the best of the Bob Seger System albums. Wish it was in print!
tzipple 2 months ago
@tzipple This was from his debut album, Ramblin Gamblin Man , not Mongrel.

Um...according to the single,BOB SEGER wrote this, not Dickie Betts. You're thinking of "Ramblin' Man" from 1973.

This reminds me of the times in 1970 when the go go dancers were dancing on bales of hay at the county fair grounds. It cost a quarter to watch 'em.

Glen Frey from The Eagles does back up vocals. Look at how old this song is and it still rocks.
