  • A variation of this song, with a similar arrangement and slightly different lyrics, is Bobby Bare's "500 Miles Away From Home".

  • @MrJayBBluejay Yes, a great version...and regarded as the original.

  • So we meet agan, Mr. deBrush. I just fancied a little nostalgia, typed in the song name and found myself here. Lovely job. Thanks for sharing. Cheers. Ed.

P.S. Having enjoyed that, now I need Ramblin' Man...

  • @Ed142857 Ah, the US midwest 20 (yes 20, I kid thee not) years ago...

Alas Ronnie H's version of Ramblin' Man is not permitted on YT, can you make do with Mark Dinning's?

  • I love this song... very close to my heart.... very close to my childhood... takes me back to school

  • I like this version more than Peter,Paul & Mary one! How are these two guys now!

  • @almightymflo Sadly, Gordon died last year.

  • @SirBasildeBrush Hello friend: Gordon is five hundred miles from us but still living here in Youtube. Thanks for uploading this lovely song. Your friendly ALIEN.

  • @RITMOSYESTILOS Hola Alien, gracias.

  • @SirBasildeBrush Por nada..esta melodìa nunca pasa de moda para mi. Un abrazo y hasta cualquier momento. Tu amigo ALIEN.

  • @almightymflo Peter also died and was the brother of Jane Asher actress and film star

  • @Theknobby7

NOPE. He is very much alive and still producing music.

  • I wish I was back in the sixties

  • Much more than 500 miles?

"From Semichis to Seychelles" et al.

  • This is a good, but in my opinion, the best version was done by the Journeymen (John Phillips, Scott McKenzie and Dick Weissman) in 1961.

  • the harmonies arent as bril as you think.....its watkins copycatted to the hilt lol. but it just goes to show what they could do back then. i prefer it to todays trash even with the tunnel echo effects. :)

  • one of my favorite songs thanks

  • :-))

  • Toller Klassiker :-))

  • Dedicated this song to my beloved dad just passing .. Le Chi Cuong.. always remember you dad.. I will joy with you one day.. R.I.P dad

  • Great version! I didn't know that Peter and Gordon did this. Great harmony!!!

    Thank you for the post!!

  • @1JUSTGOTLUCKY1 One of my favourites.

  • @shalini1974 A song loaded with emotion.

  • How is wonderful and what is an imaging is that we can see a romantic view and to listen the beautiful song in the same time. Thank you very much for your creative product, Peter and Gordon.

  • What a great song! This was one of the first few songs I learnt how to sing and play on the guitar! Peter & Gordon's rendition is pure magic!

  • I had never heard of Peter and Gordon before, but that was pretty cool.

  • @basserase Yes...have a listen to the Kingston Trio also ..We were the future one time !!

  • I'm generally into rap but I took a guitar class in highschool last year and fell in love with this song :D

  • nice song!

  • looks like doctor who.

  • Had to be the music!

  • Bless you boys, and thanks for the memories. They sure dont make em like that today.

  • Peter looks like 'Ernie' from 'My 3 Sons"? They do have a great sound, kind of forgot how good they were. Saw 'Chad & Jeremy' in Cleveland last a year ago, don't know who is better?

  • Hi SirBas!

Not just this recording, but many thanks for your contributions to the nostalig years of those magic times. Voices are a gift and were regonised for their true talent back then.

    Thank you so much.

  • Thanks for posting this song, it's great .

  • in the first photo gordon looks like noel fielding!1

  • Oh, how lovely! This song always brings a lump to my throat, and their version is definitely something special.

  • I've heard many versions of this song, but Peter and Gordan's version really blew me away.

  • Peter was also Secret Agent Austin Powers in his spare time. Sorry, couldn't help it!

  • @pmam1968 Oh Behave!

  • @SirBasildeBrush Groovy, baby!

  • @pmam1968 ..... Funny I pretty much thought the same, but I don't think Austin Powers could sing as great as these two guys.

  • @pmam1968 Actually, that is the truth. Mike Myers has said that his look for Austin Powers was taken from the look of Peter Asher( the brother of Jane Asher who Paul McCartney was engaged too). Mike grew up a huge Beatles fan and followed all the British invasions bands.

  • @pmam1968 I thought so too!

  • Is Gordon the one without the glasses?

  • @punke217 Yes.

  • @punke217 no, the one with glasses and orange hair is Peter Asher.

  • @punke217

Yes, Gordon is the one without the glasses. He past away last year at the age of 64.

  • This song brings tears to my eyes... I just left my girlfriend. Oh I miss her so...

  • this is definitely their best, along with Women, I go to pieces, and True Love Ways

Bring back so much memories in high school days

    thanks for posting

  • @MBZMDFAN Thanks for listening.

  • how ca I forget Peter & Gordon...one the finest duo during our times then..RoyDante29

  • i'm not familiar with these singers, but i listen to their music since i was young... so this is how they look like. who's the red-haired guy?

  • Peter Asher, sister of Jane Asher who was Paul McCartney's girlfriend for a time in the 60s.

  • Nice version of this classic song

  • Gods, they were so young...

    I am getting old.

    ADT

  • These two knocked spots off of the Kingston trio, Bobby bare ,the Hooters and whoever else tried to sing this Peter and Gordons voices seemed to melt into one another like stiring cream into Baileys. Dont think any other duo complimented each other quite the same as these two .Gordon was a larger than life character who will be sadly missed by all of his fans but most of all by Peter who i think was his biggest fan of all .

  • RIP Gordon.

  • Just awesome! Thank you... Peter and Gordon also had one of the most beautiful songs ever overlooked by the public (and just about everyone else). I have since lost the 45 but If you have "Morning's Calling" give it a listen. Perhaps you will feel it is worth a post. ;)

  • Thanks for the comment. Alas, I don't have the one you mention.

  • やっぱり、音楽ってアレンジンって事がよくわかる一曲です。他のバァージョン聞いてもジーンとこない。ピーターゴードン このテイクが最高!!!!。

  • This is just so beautiful! thank you!

  • My pleasure.

  • Just beautiful!

  • Is this the Original Version?

  • It's the original version by Peter & Gordon, which is a copy of the original by Bobby Bare.

  • The Hooters covered it too right ?

  • Yes, just looked them up.

  • Hey I'm back in the 60's when I was a colourfully dressed all-knowing spotty youth!

    Thanks! Great song! 5*

  • So touching and moving! Such exquisite harmony!

  • Peter & Gordon were, in my opinion, one of the most neglected groups after their mid-60s heyday. When two voices combine like theirs, it seemed to magnify whatever tune they were covering. Sorta like folk meets pop rock meets early Beatles.

  • Gene Clark, when he met Jim McGuinn suggested they'd form a Peter and Gordon kinda duo

  • At 1.21 Gordons the image of John Lennon!

  • Do ya think Mike Myers based Austin Powers on Peter Asher??

  • Yeah, baby, yeah!

  • I don't know when this came out but Peter Paul and Mary came out with this in 1964 or thereabouts and it just swept me off my feet. It's a sad, sad song.

  • were a rare crowd

  • me too

  • I am 17 and this is beautiful i drive a 1979 Bonneville everyday and listen to my local oldies station, born to late i guess

  • Im 22 and have exactly same feelings. Born in wrong decade. :(

  • as a 60 year old its good to know that this music from my era is still appreciated and that will help it live on

  • It is, and this is one of the best!

  • Comment removed

  • @Mr1979pontiac not born too late, you can still hear the same music. if anything it says a lot more now, back then you'd be any kid listening to the music of the day

  • @Mr1979pontiac Not at all! Seriously, good music is timeless. There is little good music being created today. Marketing has almost obliterated ability in the music industry. A shame, and totally unnecessary.

  • @Mr1979pontiac Marry me! :D

  • Exquisite, extraordinary, magnificent, beautiful......I wish they'd done more.

  • which LP album has this 500 miles song ?

  • I love Peter & Gordon's version of this song. They are such a distinctive duet - forever etched in my mind.....

  • Awesome Duo! R.I.P. Gordon. You will be missed. msnancylee

  • good ole bobby bare song...but still a good version

  • Can't help listening to this song over & over again!

  • Many thanks, we're agreed on the best version!

  • lovely harmony

I lost my yellow lab mix, Odin, 10 years ago at the ripe old age of 14, and I still miss him. All dogs go to Heaven, and we can only hope that we will be there with them. Peace. : )

  • How sad that Gordon Waller has passed away at 64. If you watch the live version of this song that's on youtube, you'll recognize that time took it's usual toll on the voices, but the love between the Peter and Gordon was as strong as ever. RIP Gordon Waller and thank you so much for the beautiful music you made for us in your life. :-(

  • Wonderful, their harmony is perfection and now Gordon can sing in heaven.

    Thank You!

  • Thanks for listening, a beautiful song.

  • Well Basil...you amaze me...Peter and Gordon remind me of my lost sister...gone much too soon at age 56...hope Gordon is singing to her now...this is the most perfect version of this gem that I have ever heard...

    Bless you...Sir B

It reminds me of the loneliness one feels when they listen to "Amarillo By Morning." FIVE STARS...STELLAR...

  • Thanks for the comment. So beautifully and emotionally sung.

  • Rest in peace, Gordon.

    Such a wonderful song.

  • Just found out. Sad, only 64. Not just the best version of this song, one of the best songs I've ever heard.

  • carries my mind back to old good time ......

thank you so much for the great post : )

  • Great, thank you.

  • Die erste comment mit an herz! Vielen dank.

  • Takes me back to my hitch hiking days,,what was I thinking,,lol. but a very good song. Thx for posting a very good song

  • Interesting, takes me back to driving across the mid-west US.

  • stop and see me and Bobbie Sue...and our ten young-uns!

    ;)

  • Thanks for the info. I have always only ever listened to this song as originally sung by Peter, Paul & Mary. This is a good version, too, though.

  • My favourite version, and one of my all-time favourite songs!

  • which of them is the lead singer and which one is harmonizing?

  • Sounds like Peter (ginger hair) does the first lead, and Gordon the second.
