  • great stuff!! just a singer and his guitar!!! no digital enhancement!!!

  • @theTrainmanmec .... I agree with you man. No gimmicks, no voice enhancing Mics, etc. Just the guy and his guitar. It is an ALL TIME CLASSIC BAR DRINKIN' PAIN SONG.

  • The best drinking song ever made ever made.

  • where the fuck is the studio version on youtube

  • @TomThumbsBlues1965 I hid it.

  • this song makes me want to cry

  • Fallen Angel/Cross Country

    Label: Hux Records

    Released: June 27, 2011

  • Webb's 12 #1 hits still have more weeks at #1 on both the disc jockey and best seller chrarts than anyone in history. Even George Strait. Eddy Arnold has most weeks #1 on the old juke box chart.

  • This song saved my life

  • that. is an epic suit.

  • he wasn't put in the hall of fame because he didn't get to the Opry every weekend because of touring. He Made more money and exposure on tour. He also upset the establishment by starting a publishing company to publish his own music. He made a lot of enemies in the 1950's. He was in fact the 1950's music wise. Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, and Rockabilly forever and to h**l with the junk since.

  • @mt3311 After seeing some of these videos, one has to wonder if the reason he didn't get into the H-o-F for so long is because he was gay.

  • @highnrising you the one gay

  • @highnrising fuck the hall of fame, most worthless accolade ever invented. with that said, I doubt it's because he was gay, I'd never even heard that before. if anything I'd say it's got a lot more to do with the people in Nashville not knowing shit about country music. I mean, if there's a country music hall of fame without Gram Parsons, then whats even the point?

  • Webb Pierce would have made a good bluegrass singer. He sang in some high keys-something none of the modern so-called country singers ever do. He sang this in the key of D - most of these new guys would probably have to lower it to about A to sing it. What a disgrace that Elvis and Brenda Lee (who never even claimed to be country singers in their defense) were put in the Hall of Fame before him.

  • THis is the type of music I write ..................only traditional country !

  • Great.

  • The only thing that caught my eye in todays music is "kid rocks" new album has webb's car on the cover. lol sad state of music were in today

  • ima hardcore jungle drum n bass man myself but whenever ive had a bottle of rum and some weed, i always turn to webb,. love the motherfucker

  • Rip the audio from this vid at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • what a beautiful song.

  • i heard about this song because of a wholphin DVD haha. and i don't normally like country music. but I'm in love with this song

  • nem rossz :)

  • good as it gets right there........

  • this guy cant sing,, his voice is all over the place!!

  • @vinnothelizard Or we could just listen to Ms. "can't make a good country song so I do top 40 pop" Taylor Swift. Seriously? Don't insult a legend...

  • sorry sorry, what i really want to say is that im not from USA. The rest stays the same.

  • I´m from the USA but with songs like this i can understand that the good country is made by people with balls, the modern country is made by pretty faces, no balls. Of course, there are exceptions

  • Raised on Rock & Roll, but I have to tip my hat to Classic Country!

  • This is from the days before country music turned into ass shaking contest

  • this is way before country music turned into an ass shaking contest

  • Now this is real Country music!

  • Glad to see I'm not the only pop country hater out there...bring back real country!!

  • one of my favorite songs by him along with memory number 1!

  • Webb Pierce. We heard this on the radio yesterday. Lois had never heard it. I can't stop singing it.

Nice suit, too. If I find one in a thrift store I'm buying it.

  • I hate Country music today , and i always thought the whole genre always sucked until i heard this song on a Bob Dylan Documentary. its just like Rock, it used to be awesome: Led zeppelin. and then it got shitty: NIckelback

  • love that voice. not as much as lefty frizzell tho

  • @unmoris____Couldn't agree more. Country music is a crystal ball that defines our culture and it's looking very murky right now.

  • The original recorded version is better than this one, and I don't have a real favorite among the later ones. Somehow that true oldie has a more genuine country sound, as so often happens when anyone records after the hit. Even Webb couldn't match his first one.

  • Country back in 1950's had its own identity as well as the early to late 60's. Now adays Country Music has no Identity and sounds like Pop crap.

  • After Hank Sr., Webb was next in line for "King of Country Music in the 50s" He had his own 15 min. radio show at the age of 15. First 3 records went to #1, had 13 #1 hits and 52 top 10 hits and 92 life time hit records. And yet, he wasn't inducted into the C&W Hall of Fame until 2001, ten years after he died.

  • started working at a steakhouse that plays country music, this is one of the songs that i'm guaranteed to hear at least 3 times before i leave, and it's the only song that i really like on the CD they play. it took me 3 weeks to find out the title and artists. now i can die happy... or sad lol

  • Robert Gordon does a good version of this one too.

  • oh the excitement

  • REAL COUNTRY, GOTTA LOVE IT. This guy is not an Australian (keith urban), not a black (darius rucker), just a good old country boy who was a hell of a singer.

  • @derrtyjake06 What does it matter what country they're from or what color they are? It's more about what you're talking about in your song and that's why the old country is more meaningful.

  • @phREaker419 folks from the south have different values and beliefs than the rest of the world. This is why they tried to secede and form their own independent nation. The fact that outsiders have moved in and bastardized the genre just shows how commercialized and crappy today's country is.

  • @derrtyjake06 You seem to supposedly know much about the 'rest of the world' eh? Let's be honest here, a lot of the crappy country heard these days is coming from our own back yard. A few odd aussies and and europeans in the fray ain't really making much difference in today's goofy country music.

  • Messege in the bottle.

  • Fans of this music should give a listen to Wayne Hancock. His CD "Tulsa" is an excellent effort. Texas swing and traditional Honky Tonk tunes, very strong lyrics, great vocals, great pedal steel guitar.. only the sound quality and the liner notes would tip you off that it wasn't made in the 50's.

  • "there stands the glass that will ease all my pain, that will settle my brain, it's my first one today" i think Webb Pierce was emo!!

  • This song reminds me of my youth.

  • This song brings back memories of my youth.

  • The music I grew up with holds up very well. I am glad my children are able to enjoy this genre of music..My father would be happy!

  • Beautiful ! Thank You for posting it!

  • This is on Martin Scorsese's No Direction Home..

    Great documentary

  • Sad that some people think he's out of tune. People are losing their ears for this kind of music.

  • I agree!

  • @davyfiore kind of like Ernest Tubb, his voice just has a lot of soul and grittiness which is what this kind of music is all about, not auto-tuned Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, etc.

  • This is the greatest drinking honky tonk song ever because it shows the absolute horrors of alcholism. A haunting song done by one of the most underrated country music stars... Webb Pierce!

  • @notredamehesamighty Did you think that up all by yourself? For some WWII vets reality was a worse horror.

  • @notredamehesamighty really good point, this is not only a great country song but also some great poetry, very powerful!

  • One of the great singers

  • my daddy's song that's why i love it so much

  • Funny how we inherit tastes, huh? Since my father's passing, I find myself craving what he listened to many years ago.

  • He's a bit out of tune here. The best version of this song I've found is by Patty Loveless. It's great, check her out.

  • @vinegar55 He's not out of tune, it's the old film and the equipment of the day. A lot of old recordings vary a bit in speed, which makes it sound like that. Webb had a great ear.

  • Check out the Kool suit he's sportin ya'll. Now it's time for a nice tall cold beer!

  • It's called a"Nudie" suit. Made by a man named Nudie. He made them for all the country stars.

  • he's sounds miserable !

  • That outfit looks awesome.

  • what brand is the guitar

  • Hard to say, the headstock is definitely notable; shaped like an ibanez.

  • @TheWantedOutlaw It is a Gay guitar (Made by a Canadian guitar maker named Gay who lived in Edmonton, Alberta). Webb Pierce, Faron Young, and Carl Smith played these brand of guitars.

  • Thanks for submitting this.

  • True classic country right here :)

  • the guitar tuning is what really matters about this, im glad so many commentors have realized this

  • What is so great about an Open E guitar tuning?

  • You have to see this guy live or at least better video footage to appreciate this, but None can sing like Webb Pierce. Many try to duplicate that song but it is the voice in that tune that brings it to life.

  • Maby its just this version (guitar) but (no offense at all!!!) but I think George is better.

  • Dubya's old favorite

    LOL

  • i love this song. but... does his guitar sound like it's not tuned very well? wow.

  • Studio guitar.

    LOL

  • By the time this record was released Webb had established himself as the succesor to Hank Williams, the #1 country artist with everyone else a distant second. This was the second in a string of 9 consecutive #1's.

  • To the person asking me if it's true,, yes..but it's in the past. It was in shreveport.But..whatever..

  • OK, southernsky48, I hear you.

  • 0:28 - 0:30, I just noticed that Webb batted his eyes! That's one of the reasons why I say Webb Pierce is the heart-throb of classic country music. Thanx fur sharin'! 5 thumbs up!

  • My mother dated web..louisiana hayride..back in the day. he wanted to marry her..but she said no..

  • southernsky48, really? I know alot of people yank each other's chain on the internet sites where people can "talk" to each other. People can say stuff they really ain't, like "TONY DANZA IZ MA UNCLE!" or whatever.

  • reminds me of Robin Williams a bit

  • southerngalpride825 u are so right, and i'm glad u've heard some of the greats of what was called then Country & Western Music. we need to go back an revisit those times !!!!!!

  • GREAT SONG !

    THANX 4 THE POST !

  • Comment removed

  • me too, what a song!

  • Me too...

  • ahhh...they just dont play it like they used too. this is the kind of music i grew up on....... and im 14

  • SO true! The old songs cant even compare to today's music. Bring back the oldies!!!!

  • @southerngalpride825 the internet was not invented for your faggotry

  • @bobdylan4evr and yet here i am

  • How did Country go from this to "I got a barbecue stain on my white t-shirt"?

People need to be reminded about what makes music great.

  • Agreed.....Tim McGraw...really???

  • @unmoris

Indeed. I could not agree more.

    The Preacherman.

  • @unmoris You got that right!

  • @unmoris - no doubt! Country music has become watered down pop-rock with greeting card lyrics. There are still artists making and playing real country, but it's hard to find a radio station that plays it.

  • @unmoris It will NEVER be replaced. Not even with "She thinks my tractor's sexy"........Jesus christ.......

  • @unmoris I could not agree more.... as I still listen to new country haha

  • @unmoris yes, shiny suits...

  • @unmoris couldnt agree more

  • Wow! I just flashed to a bar in San Angelo! Thank You! Nice!.

  • There seems to be nothing to this song it is deceptively simple, but when I try to play it song on my guitar and I can never make it sound like anything. Webb Pierce must have really felt this song, because it is one of the great country recordings, one of my all time favorites. Thanks for sharing it.

  • I wonder if he battled with the drink to create such a raw ,simply & beautiful song maybe he lives with that inner struggle. The song catcptures his battle which why capturing that feeling is so elusive for you. For so many Each day' that glass" is all that stands between SAniTy & beginning a cycle that leads to so much pain damage destruction Then HURT& REgret. Van Morrison does a spectacular version of this and if you see & hear it he nails it perhaps he lived through that hell too

  • I don't know what it is about this song that I love so much. Just seems like a truly honest song. Just simply amazing.

  • this song is a reverse cheers for all the alcoholics that know

--this one cylinder can shatter"my"& so many others lives all "I" need to do is take that first sip--

i hope those that have that secret struggle will go try AA they'd be surprised its not a bunch of weirdos just nice normal folks that understand Theyre just like u -opened a phone book found a meeting& went to 1or 4 til they found a group that fit them A single step changes u forever& the sun will shine again on their lives

  • I am so thankful for youtube. I just love songs like this. Thank you , thank you so much.

  • Sigh, no more real country, no real r&b, no real blues, no real nothing today!!

  • I bought a DVD with his performances on the Grand Ole Opry Show.

He pretty much defines what country should sound and look like.

Unlike today where 99.9% of country is absolute crap.

  • @MuscleCatClothing Ever hear of Wayne Hancock? He's one of the rare Artist today who still plays Country Music, check him out if you want. Jamey Johnson is another modern artist that retains some of the Country style rather than today's Nashville crap.

  • @MuscleCatClothing 100% true, hate this perfume impersonation of great Country music they play on the radio

  • Except for the traditionalists Alan Jackson, Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakam.

  • @MuscleCatClothing i can do nothing but to agree whole heartedly

  • The Alcoholics Anonymous National Anthem.

  • Country singers knew how to dress when performing back in those days. Classy! Thanks aaronkeith!

  • I love Webb Pierce!!!!

  • Chet Atkins once said that he believed that one day country and pop would become so intertwined that individuals would grow tired of the mediocrity and go back to true country. After listening to this, I now hope he was right more than ever.

  • you are goddamn right about that!!!

  • Their is no need to use that word, can't you just say damn right or something, but not that word.

  • sorry, english is not my first language so I´m not really sure what kind of words that are offensive or not!

  • goddamn you for trying to censor people

  • goddamn

  • The new (country singers?) do not come up to the top of Webb's boots. Just my opinion!! ***** and thanks.

  • I agree. One thing I really can't stand is the fake southern accent so many of today's stars sing with. Even if one speaks with a southern accent, that doesn't necessarily carry over into the singing voice. For example, guys like Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, and women like Patsy Cline didn't put on a fake accent when they sang. Cline is especially a good example - her speaking voice is quite heavily accented, but her singing voice is not. When I hear guys like Kenny Chesney today... ugh.

  • It's not possible to have talent when there is none there. LOLL!!!

  • i totally agree with you...no sense rying to change your voice to sound country..all the older performers knew how to sing...not like the so called performers of today...rather listen to the country classics

  • I guess it used to be enough to be yourself and have talent and work your butt off.Now...you've got "people" like Britney Spears singing "I love Rock n Roll"......

That's today's music industry for ya......

Specially selected by a few, to annoy sooo many..

Keep looking underground, there's a lot of honest artists still playing good music!!

Check out Hank Williams III, he's as honest as it gets...

  • Hi ijosef. I'm not from the US but I think that singing with a southern accent is very beautiful as well...I'm not a native speaker of course, but I can tell that in this performance Webb Pierce is singing with a southern accent, and i love it!...maybe some of them thought that if they sang with a standard accent they could reach to more public and have a more successful career, who knows!

  • .the thing is that nowadays most of the male country singers have the same voice, like if all they come from the same factory., i'm pretty sure that they're exaggerating their accents....

  • Kick ass song, kick ass music. I sing this song to myself every weekend morning as i have my eye opener. Bring back real country music!!!!!!!! Hank Three, Dale Watson...

  • thank u....this is fantastic.

    classic.

    michael

  • OMG how i love this! what a song!!!

  • good song

  • yes this is country and no bad real country who are saying today

  • the country music today has none of the soul of this music . this is the best A+

  • no no no no!

The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, Grant Langston and the Supermodels, The Mothertruckers, Shotgun Party, Big House.

    its out there.

  • Not to mention Hank III's country stuff.

  • you know it

  • Hey dumbass JAMMIN IN THE SKY MEANS SINGIN' IN HEAVEN!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU ILLETERATE OR JUST PLAIN STUPID? Anyways this is real country music My daddy lovews this new shit sound that makes me wanna barf everytime I hear it. Especially trace atkins I swear I almost died of brain damage when I heard his stupid I got My Game on. GOD BLESS TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!!

  • This is the way it should be,the

     crap they sing today UGH

  • SIMPLY COUNTRY MUSIC

  • Ace, you just sunk your failboat.

  • If only country music and country singers sounded like this today. I bet Webb is jamming with the best of em up there in the sky

  • God, I wish I had a suit like that. Love it, but a little more seriously, he was one of the great, great earlier country artists in America, and to me this is one hell of a real, died in the wool country songs of all time. It just doesn't get much more country than this in my eyes. Marc Trainor

  • Great video awesome song! The only country singer today, that can rock this song is George Strait.

  • george straight sucks.

  • Amen...Amen...

  • Thank you Aaronkeith.I thought this was added by zombiereagan because he added a lot of songs from this group of songs I've been watching. Sorry

  • Thank you Zombiereagan-You have great videos.I have the dvd with these songs.but I like to listen to them on you tube.

  • Zeebedee:D watch it:D

    pfff...Naxxramas<3

  • This is the first Pierce song I heard while listening to WWVA radio in Wheeling around 1954/55 late at night while growing up in Toronto. Lost a lot of sleep before getting up for school listening to WWVA.

  • I love playing this song on piano

  • another good song from Webb, love his voice, keep putting him on you-tube l grew up in his era and miss him still

  • WOW some wicked vocals, new so called country singers can't sing like this I'll tell ya!!

  • Webb is known as a singer of drinking songs but the funny thing is, this is really the only drinking song he ever recorded--it's that powerful!

  • wow thanx for posting,,,,,this was early country, i grew up on this, and im only 51, luv the ole country better than todays artist

  • Big jaunty smile: "I'm wonderin' if you think of me/In my misery"

  • How about that good ole boy from West Monroe, Louisiana!!!

  • great you brought it up im from louisiana about 50 miles from west monroe

  • I can't stop listening to this wonderful song and performance. Simply Amazing!

  • I grew up listening to Webb. He was great.

  • His vocals are a little flat here... seems to make the song that much more genuine, though.

  • Webb sang a little flat..and his guitar matched..!

  • live performance -- no overdubs -- no pitch phaser ...

  • Another top hit of Webb,s, as most of his songs were Much better than the modern Country, another that I do in Karaoka Bars, & it still goes down well, along with the Beer. Arthur Davis

  • there stands the glass...

  • I can't think of much that would be better than a couple of beers and listening to Webb Pierce

  • Country Music at one of it's finest moments...
