I'm really huge fan of Cobham...but I don't get it...why he brought this two guy's..they look and sound like they fightin with drumms instead of playing them...but he is a master for all of us
yup your right bastard I really dig Billys playing even tho Im not a drummer a get inspired to become a better guitarest by watching drummers who take a simple set up or a standerd set to the next level. Its crazy because the energy and soul the use its what gets me to do with my guitar but most definitley the "rock" drummer would fit in my band...
haha, the rock drummer's face after he finishes and billy cobham walks over, he looks like he's about to be told off or something :P I would have picked Ian Paice or Clive Bunker :)
You have to wonder though why the BBC couldn't have found a more inspired rock drummer. This was recorded in London I assume so it's a shame they couldn't have put together a clinic between Cobham and the 24 year old Simon Phillips, that would have been epic.
Long time since I saw this. Hmm I remenber at the time I'd just started drumming and thought the jazz drummer was dull and unstructured and the rock drummer was great. But how a bit of learning changed all that. Ther rock drummer is so basic, and all that tapem with pinstripes on Premier shells? Actually pretty dreadful. To be honest I'm still not too impressed by the Jazz guy either but at least the technical ability is there. It's Cobhams stuff that saves it and is still great.
I knew a guy who put the whole sportspage IN his snare drum. Another guy taped a whole kiss record jacket to the underside of his floor tom...isnt that funny?
This is a really good example of how a jazz drummer compares to a rock drummer. The rock drummer is a good, but I think anyone who understands music knows that the jazz drummer is far and away the more talented musician. The real joke is that I bet the rock drummer made more money during his career.
prob the coolest way to clinic

That drum kit sounds good for indie sound but not rock...

djkozmik, yeah its unfortunate that Billy couldn't have seen nearly 30 years into the future of indie/rock drumming recording technique.

How times change... I remember all that duct tape on Pinstripes. Yuk. Glad to be out of that era...

What a terrible spot to be put on!
No preliminary tune to lea you in, and knowing that not not only is the camera watching but so is Billy Cobham.
Help!
