God was this movie begging for the "Alan Smithee" pseudonym. Pretty much everyone involved in the production hated the version that was released to theaters in 1987.
Yes indeed book was better. Way better. I heard Andrew Neiderman wrote the screenplay for a remake but Hollywood hasn't done anything yet. I hope they do and keep book closer to the book. I did hear that Hollywood was very hesitant to use the book too much because they were uncomfortable with the incest angle. Wes Craven's screenplay was said to be brutal with the incest so it was never used. Well this movie was unfair to the classic book. A.M Torres author of Love Child.
That's true. Children don't ask to be born. My story Love Child deals with an unwanted child as well and sadly children are made to pay when they don't ask to be born. A.M Torres author of Love Child.
It doesn't matter how a child is born - whether it's by incest or rape or whatever. Don't get me wrong any crime commited must be punnished. But anyone born as a result is not the childs fault! Nobody can control who there parrents are! There is no spawn of the devil - at least that's what I think.
i'm currently reading Flowers in the Attic because my mom read the series when she was a teen and she said they were great books. now, i'm only half way through the first one, but this looks nothing like the book. like wtf?

The film wasn't that great (especially the acting) but I thought the visuals were quite gothic and the soundtrack is amazing! Christopher Young is a very good composer.
This is a VERY good trailer, it was what I consider almost completely false advertising but I love it. They make it sound like a regular horror movie, like a haunted house or something like that, not at all what we actually get in the movie, but it sparks interest and makes the movie alluring to see.
@Cropsy25 Yes, I've read the book and it is way better than the movie. There is a bunch of stuff left out. I would recomend that you read the book. It's not very hard to get into it. It's actually one of my favorites of all time.
ive never read the book but i always liked the movie but i hear a lot of people say how the book was much better than the movie im just wondering what was lacking from the movie that the book had?
Before reading V. C. Andrews "Flowers in the Attic" you must read V. C. Andrews "Gardens of Shadows". This is where it all starts. It will expalin the beggining of it all. You will understand how the Grandmother became the way she was. This book will set everyone into a place to when you read "Flowers in the Attic". It will all come together and make so much more sense.
I could not put the book down!! What a page turner!
@Tyjo92 I know, I remember reading This Series in the 1980's. Hey did you ever see the VC Andrews Webpage where they have the Covers from Foreign Countries. The French Version that had Cory & Carrie actually was from Life Magazine where A Computer Programmer, His Radcliffe Wife, and Four Children gave up The Good Life to live in a Tent.
I read that a remake has been agreed to since 2008. I don't know what they are waiting for but they did say Andrew Neiderman wrote the screenplay and that MGM was making the remake. If true I wish they hurry up and keep it closer to the book.
@16momina I know what you mean.. I first heard about this book in 1981 when I was 15. My girlfriend told me about the Book and I thought she was crazy. I then read PITW and I remembered crying when I saw how Carrie was Bullied at School. ITBT was okay and so was SOY but when I finally discovered the "Truth" in GOS, I almost screamed and I was on the Bus. I don' t condone for what The Grandmother did, but after seeing what she went through, I can understand why she was the way she was.
Seriously, the book is way better than the movie. IF YOU'RE READING THIS, YOU REALLY SHOULD READ THE BOOK!! IT'S SUPER GOOD, THE STORY IS BEAUTIFUL, AND YOU'LL LOVE IT!
@MrNumbnuts123 I'm halfway through the book and I cannot believe how different the movie is from the book. The book is really good so far, I cannot put it down. I'm on the "Holiday" chapter, and I do agree that the book is worth it!
@Vettoid I am rereading it too! I just finished the Our Stepfather chapter. I so wish they would remake the movie because if they followed the book it would be a masterpiece... and then they could make Petals on the Wind, which is my favorite book in the series. (but also the saddest)
@Vauthier Oh wow, I'll have to buy Petals on the Wind then! I'm currently reading the chapter "The Long Winter, and Spring, and Summer" and I am loving this book so far. It's really heartbreaking because I would hate to be in their situation. Thanks for the reply, I will get the next book and read it once I'm finished.
@Vettoid do that because I really enjoyed Petals on the Wind. Out of the whole series, I'd say that one is my favorite, though it is just as heartbreaking as FITA. (maybe more so, depending on your opinion) Fantastic books. If you enjoy them, be sure to read the Heaven series as well. The last two were written after she died, but the first three are amazing! Heaven, Dark Angel, and Fallen Hearts are the names. Though you will probably want to finish the Flowers in the Attic series first.
I love this movie...Saw it as a kid and didn't read the novel about 10 later....But great movie...Not too close to the book. Some good actors..Kristy Swanson(who is the original Buffy) and Louise Fletcher is great...Creepy but good..I think what give's this move it's appeal is the music in the film and the actors who are adorable..A re-make of this today would be good but then they'd have to do more because the mother does not die in the book...like in the movie...

@ShadesXPants the older brother and sister take on the role of parents to the twins and become sexually attracted to each other. then the older sister kisses her stepdad, and the older brother over heard it. so the brother raped her. yet they both loved each other.

@strawberryshowers42 It might seem obvious to you, I never found the whole incest thing believable. In extreme cases it may happen, but I don't think being locked in the same room for three years while you go through puberty means that you'd justifiably want to sleep with your little sister.
Here is an idea Hollywood. Stop remaking classic movies like Footloose, and Nightmare on Elm Street, and start remaking the movies that need it. Like Rosemary's Baby or freakin Flowers in the Attic. Do you even know how much money would be made if you made the book series into movies and actually followed the book!? Duh?
@hootied Yes it is. I liked the movie, until I read the book. I was all woah. They based this movie off of this book I hold in my hands. I dont believe it. V.C. Andrews would have been so upset if she saw what they did to this movie.
@Tyjo92 you made my day :O i´m just in your opinion :D you are so right!!! this movie really need a remake...but of the whole entire books... thzey are so great and they never thought about to make...thats bad :O we should make it, hum? :D
@Tyjo92 I´m talking Rosemary´s Baby and not Flowers In The Attic... Even if you consider a remake on Rosemary´s Baby, I didn´t read any remarks on this page regarding a remake on Rosemary´s Baby, only on Flowers In The Attic. Even if you think a remake is in order for Rosemary´s Baby, it´s obvious that you are never alone on your opinion because there´s always someone out there that shares ones opinion... and you have the right to yours.
@Mephistophelis85 OH YES. The book is a BILLION times better than the movie. The creators of this "movie" left out so much. I can't even tell you what, because it was so much. Seriously, Flowers in the Attic book is one of those books, that you can have an idea about what will happen on the next page, but what happens is SO different than what you were expecting, you are literally blown away. Read the book, it is amazing.
I saw this movie when it first came out.I was 8. I love the movie but read the book many years later. Not close to the book in a lot of ways. But i still like the movie. And the book series were good.Kristy Swanson is awesome.Would recommend the movie.

Flowers in the Attic aired on This Tv about a couple of days ago, since by MGM Holdings Inc. & 20th Century Fox co-own the rights in the first place. But also, Flowers in the Attic is a creepy horror film.
The book was excellent. Kudos to Andrews for having the balls to tackle such a sensitive topic, despite the fact that sibling incest happens every day. The movie was a disaster. The incest issue, how Chris and Cathy became so attached to each other because there truly was no one else available and how those experiences, that intense bonding and physical attraction effected them the rest of their lives, form the heart of the book. If you take that out, the movie loses all meaning. It falls apart.
@rancidglass lmfao me and my mom were watching a movie and I went and got us 2 oreos and i told her the same thing "Eat it! Eat the Cookie" she was crackin up"
@TheMusicAngel444 lol, I hated the grnadmother to. I watched the movie like, two nights ago, and it was pretty good, except i think they left some stuff out
I have to say that I just finished the book, and it's the best thing I ever read, but I'm not going to watch this. Dogs? Since when where there dogs? -_- haha
I would really like to see a remake.... In the book the daughter slept with her mothers Corrine husband for revenge!!! Someone needs to remake this movie it's horrible compared to the book!!!!
I love V.C andrews books soooo much! Does anyone know where to get the movie of Rain with the prequeal included? I'm not interested in the moive... I only want to read the prequeal sooo bad! :) So please, if you know e-mail me :)))
looks horrible. this is one of those movies that i wouldnt want to see because it would ruin the book for me. i hope they make a remake though! a better version :/

Duh?
Tyjo92 1 year ago 81
@Tyjo92 : i so agree....this needs a remake! I think with the right director, it can be done really well.
valentine00002 1 year ago
@Tyjo92 : they're planning a remake, its just waiting to be green-lit according to wikipedia.
valentine00002 1 year ago
@Tyjo92 Speak it, remake something that needs some improvement! Though this movie is a cheesy delight.
hootied 1 year ago
@hootied Yes it is. I liked the movie, until I read the book. I was all woah. They based this movie off of this book I hold in my hands. I dont believe it. V.C. Andrews would have been so upset if she saw what they did to this movie.
Tyjo92 11 months ago
@Tyjo92 you made my day :O i´m just in your opinion :D you are so right!!! this movie really need a remake...but of the whole entire books... thzey are so great and they never thought about to make...thats bad :O we should make it, hum? :D
LittyJilla 7 months ago
@LittyJilla
Lets do it! Lets remake this movie the RIGHT way! =D
Tyjo92 7 months ago
@Tyjo92 so when we gonna meet for brainstorming? :D im from germany :D so i think we should meet right in the middle... :D this must be done!!!
LittyJilla 6 months ago
@LittyJilla
I completely agree! I like the way we think!
Tyjo92 6 months ago
@Tyjo92 How can you say Rosemary's Baby needs a remake?
mariosjpaulo 7 months ago
@mariosjpaulo
Because. Think of the special effects that can be used now. Not to mention the acting in that movie is horrendous.
Tyjo92 7 months ago
@Tyjo92 What special effects do you want to introduce into Rosemary´s Baby???
You have the right to your opinion but the majority of us don´t think that the acting is horrendous. The movie Rosemary´s Baby is a freaking classic.
mariosjpaulo 7 months ago
@mariosjpaulo Obviously I am not the only one who feels that way.
Tyjo92 6 months ago
@Tyjo92 I´m talking Rosemary´s Baby and not Flowers In The Attic... Even if you consider a remake on Rosemary´s Baby, I didn´t read any remarks on this page regarding a remake on Rosemary´s Baby, only on Flowers In The Attic. Even if you think a remake is in order for Rosemary´s Baby, it´s obvious that you are never alone on your opinion because there´s always someone out there that shares ones opinion... and you have the right to yours.
mariosjpaulo 6 months ago
@Tyjo92 OMG SO TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I am absolutely in love with the books. I watch the movie and almost hung myself it was so bad.
BiteMe000000 5 months ago
The trailer lied. The TRUE Flowers in the Attic has yet to come to the screen.

@phoenixrage1 Its a verrrry old movie. it has been made just a longgg time ago. the book is very old itself.
megamadmadi 1 year ago
@megamadmadi I know that. I was saying this movie is a terrible adaptation of the book.
phoenixrage1 1 year ago
@phoenixrage1 Oops :/ sorry, my misconception
megamadmadi 1 year ago
@phoenixrage1 why's that, is the book different from the film? (cause I aint read it, but flowers in the attic is my favourite horror/thriller)
Mephistophelis85 8 months ago
@Mephistophelis85 OH YES. The book is a BILLION times better than the movie. The creators of this "movie" left out so much. I can't even tell you what, because it was so much. Seriously, Flowers in the Attic book is one of those books, that you can have an idea about what will happen on the next page, but what happens is SO different than what you were expecting, you are literally blown away. Read the book, it is amazing.
Tyjo92 8 months ago
@Tyjo92 Agreed with you, this movie ruined the book for me :(
OraOfSins 8 months ago
@OraOfSins
Have you read the book though? If not, please do! Don't let this awful movie ruin it for you. The Dollanganger Saga is just amazing!

It falls apart.

the book is a shocking read...
while the film is very 80s tv movie...with some hilarious scenes

I try to like the film but it is so watered down compared to the book that it really does not do a justice.
The book on the other hand is wonderful!
