@OBSysteme Does it power on? if yes find out where the tubes are located and find which tubes arnt lighting up or if they are all lighting up just wiggle each one of them, I had a tube in mine when i got it didn't light up so i didn't have sound I wiggled it and now it works great.
Hey dude, ive been given a grundig almost exactly the same as your one only lighter in colour, it looks like it came out of the shop last week!!!! it looks brand new! any idea what its worth??
Hi There, I got a JVC Nivico Perfect Stereo unit that has a 4-Track Stereophonic tape recorder, 4TR-99U and a 4TR-99UM. The original instructions can be found inside. The unit has 10 Tubes and 7 Diode to power the 2 x 8" Woofers, and 2 x 3.5" Tweeters. Do you know anything about these things?
where do you live? i have a nice grundig console that needs work... someone replaced the turntable and i'd like to put an original record changer in it... hope you get back to me!
My Grandpa handed down a Grundic Majestic almost identical to yours - 'cept the tuner section faced up and the wood trim facing the turntable continued all the way across. Don't know if his was older than yours - probably.
im not an expert on tube electronic (but i have used and repaird some) but from what i have been telld its generely the tubes thats bad most old units from the 50s and early 60s needs new some capasitors but the rest of the electronics are almost allways fine.
I have the luxury of repairing them myself and I buy all my parts online....I really couldn't judge how much it would cost to restore these consoles, it depends on the extent of the repairs.
That turntable looks almost identical to the one in an old Telefunken console stereo my folks had many years ago. It was still working when it got dumped but not as well as the one in this video.
I have The Wall - a specially packaged two disc set! I have not heard a record player from the 1950's before. I wonder how warm it will be. I have an 80's turntable, seen in my videos.
I have been collecting records since I was 8 and I have been restoring antique audio components since I was 13; the two go hand in hand. The cabinet needed to be refinished, the chassis cleaned and recapped. I did all the work myself except for the volume control which Mark Oppat (Old Radio Parts) Rebuild.
This is only a rough guess as many of the parts I used were from my own stock; But I would say it could cost around$40 depending on where you buy your caps. I should also note I used the wax case of the old caps to cover to new ones for authenticity .
I'm really green in this area. Are the round white plastic pieces to the left of the turntable for the changer function? The 86 year old woman I bought it from had misplaced the manual and bill of sale some time last year. Also, did yours have external speakers?
I think you mean the pieces separate from the record changer itself. The piece on the back of the changer cabinet is a holder for a 45 adapter and the white cylinder at the edge of the cabinet is a 15W cabinet light I added which turns on and off when the lid is opened and closed. I don't unfortunately have a set of stereo mate speakers, but the console sounds just fine without them.
I would also recommend that you refrain from playing any records that you would not want damaged until you check that the cartridge is fine. You will deff. need to replace the needle, I would say .The 8T Sonotone needles are pretty easy to find; but the 8T cart. are not so easy. I lucked out on 3 for $8 on ebay a while back in their original pkg. Hopefully your cart. is fine, finding a replacement is hard. Any ceramic cart will work but the problem is the 8T had flat connectors and others round
I agree that the external speakers seem unnecessary. The woman told me that the kids would blast it and you could hear it next door. They don't seem to have all of the wiring. The AM and FM work well with a slight "pop" in the right speaker. I tried the turntable and it sounded fine when it touched the record but it promptly removed itself and repeated this several times. Other than a chevron shaped badge on the front right side, I'm pretty sure that mine is the same model.
just beautiful, way better than those made in china pods of today. this is something that feals real it has almost emotions.
Never ever throw it away. I am still crying that my parents trowed away alot of vintage stuff I wanted to bring in my home

I have a copy of the schematic that I could scan and email to you. Im leaving today for a couple of weeks, but I can send it to you when I get back
adpretty 2 years ago
I have over 100 grundig units of this vintage. I have restored the best ones. See my KS460 console.
The main problems are:
1) Faulty Bridge Rectifier. The cause low voltages. Easy to fx if you know how. Best left to a tech.
2) Faulty Paper Capacitors. I replace ALL in any set.
3) Faulty Resistors causing distortion. Just measure every voltage in the set and fix where faults found
4) Have not found a faulty tube, however they do go weak. Find someone with a Valve Tester to check.

Do you have any advice on finding the schematic? Thank you so much for all of your help and patience.

How much did the recapping cost you? I'm about to pick up the same radio and I've never done any work on a radio before.
