i think its a great idea... basically a lot like the first version of flash...flash isn't going anywhere , but it is nice to have an extra tool to provide at least some sort of animation to apease ipad junkies.
@Thet3 I understand what your saying, but from what they are trying to do here is replace FLASH meaning you can make games. The thing about this that I love is you do not need a plugin to run it. With flash you do. I HATE PLUGINS. So this is why I am looking forward to the day that I can finally get rid of flash.
Very cool stuff; I like what I see so far in Preview 1, and can't wait to see whats coming in the future. If anyone else is already messing around with the preview please stop by a forum I've made for Adobe Edge coders at EdgeCoders[dot]com It's just getting started but come on by!
@shubh13september Not really it has NO drawing tools, and NO bone tools, and NO 3D tools... So it's basically Flash if you took out ALL of the fun stuff ...
It's great to see that Adobe is shifting the focus of its web content to HTML5. This will greatly reduce the complexity of creating it. The amazing similarities of ActionScript and JavaScript will make the process all the easier. I don't believe Flash is going away anytime soon though. I think Flash is going to go a different direction, towards desktop applications (Adobe AIR).
LMFAO, i guess adobe is apple fan boys now . WHILE U LOSERS WAS ARGUING ABOUT HOW FLASH WAS THE SHIT, APPLE WAS TELLING U HTML5 WAS BETTER, LOOK LIKE U NERDS GLASS FACES JUST GOT HIT WITH A BRICK
@layzergun Although I agree with you that Open Standards should include Linux, however Linux is rarely used by designers. Mac OSX is based on BSD so they may eventually release a BSD Linux version as with Blender.
@suhailmishlawi Autodesk Collaborates With DreamWorks and Imageworks on Mudbox for Linux . So what do you mean when you say Linux is rarely used by designers ?
When I import something to the stage, it's just blank, but when I preview in the browser, everything looks fine. Has anyone else had this problem? (Win7 32 bit)
"Flash is dying where web content and accessibility is concerned"
Being an ActionScript Programmer and Animator i strongly disagree with you rating down the Flash platform... however the web has been longing for a new lightweight method of animation.
I'm mostly excited about developing cross platform social games tho! :D
This Adobe Edge is just an interface for people who are afraid of source code tho... Same JavaScript and HTML5!!!!
@cirusMEDIA Maybe and maybe not. Not every web designer needs to have a coding background. Some just want simple websites where coding isn't needed. And why not simplify web design? From a marketing perspective, this is a smart direction that Adobe is heading in. Imo, this will replace flash due to flash like features and simplicity that is user friendly.
Glad to see Adobe finally see the light with HTML 5.
I am a certified Adobe Flash developer and I think Flash is a dead duck. I know Flash is much more powerful than HTML 5, but lets face it, it needs a rewrite, so why not just invest in HTML 5.
@suhailmishlawi The word "HTML5" though throws people off. Its really Javascript & Css that are doing the magic. That word is throwing off alot of people considering what javascript and css are currently capable of,considering the limitations of every browser.
@fresh81steez very true, but it's easier to say HTML 5 than CSS3 + Javascript + HTML5. Maybe we need a new term for this emerging "platform", say maybe errr... something like "Strobe" you know instead of "Flash"

@layzergun They are never going to do anything for Linux, because they said there is no money to be made from Linux. I'm a Linux Mint user .

sorry, but advertising something as "cross platform" when it supports only macosx and win is a kind of joke...
