  • Thisis sooooo cool to see! I remember watching this when it first aired. Thank you so much for posting.

  • TI did it better

  • Comment removed

  • @TripleR789 You sir, are incorrect. Your statement implies a similarity between the songs, but aside from the title, they couldn't be more different. Also, The TI song hit 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, whereas this song made it to #2 and stayed there for three weeks.

  • This makes me glad I was alive during the 70s.

  • classic masterpiece, my mans favorite work song...

  • Back in these days male and female singers were not allowed to stand next to each other.

  • @Mdriver1981 thatz messed up but i love the 70's wish i could go there..

  • @melonibaby, what I said was an obvious joke.

  • @Mdriver1981 o srry dnt know want born then

  • Timeless classic.

  • Golden!

  • People in audience lame

  • Real music. I will take this over any of the garbage our out today. No lip-sync'ing! great.

  • holy crap i was an adult watching this on aftv thanks for reminding me how old i am i hurt myself trying to do there dance moves 10 minutes ago hahahahahaha

  • get some rubber man dancing done dad gum er!

  • When these dudes get busy with those rubber bands, I think it's probably the funniest and funkiest thing I've ever seen on a stage. Just brilliant!

  • The Spinners are very underrated when people talk about great singing groups! During this era when Phillippe Wynne was singing lead, they weren't too many better groups! Saw them live a couple of times -- fantastic in concert!

  • I. Love how no one in the crowd ismlike wooooaahhh!

  • I stole whatever moves I have from these guys. At least I spent a lot of time trying.

  • These 5 brotha's or Temptations? Both great groups to me. These boy band groups will never come close.

  • @bloodboa59 Temptations but yes, both are GREAT!

  • Some snappy dancing!

  • sock it to me in the kisser

  • Favorited.

  • Also this from Wikipedia: ""The Rubberband Man" is a song recorded by the American vocal group The Spinners (known as "Detroit Spinners" in the UK).

The song, written by producer Thom Bell and Linda Creed, was about Bell's son, who was being teased by his classmates for being overweight. Intended to make his son feel better about his self-image, the song eventually evolved from being about "The Fat Man" to "The Rubberband Man". Inspiration for greatness usually comes from pain, eh?

  • Man these guys were great! I remember when this came out, in '76 I believe. They played this at our high school graduation dance, and I remember thinking, "this is one for the ages"! The music of this time, not only disco, but all 70s music, had so much heart and soul, and was performed by people with real TALENT! The talent of yesterday has been replaced by technology, lip synching and editing to market to the America of today. Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?

  • RIP Crabman

  • @dasfsadg Who's the crabman?

  • @Crazea there were office max commercials a couple years ago with this song in it. The "rubber band man" in the commercials played crabman on my name is earl. And the show isnt on any more so, rip crabman

  • THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL REAL MUSIC...Boy do I miss REAL music!!!!!

  • Takes me back to fun times when I was like 13 :) I love their style--all the Soul groups had that cool style--man --this show was so good too--Thanks for posting :)

  • Good video

  • @jayelldude no one's attacking blacks except YOU. You impersonate people and say the most horrible things about blacks--calling them low IQ monkeys, etc. we are in discussion with YouTube attorneys right now. They've located your internet account. Next steps to follow.

  • @takfam07 the I never use the word low IQ monkey for my people..that's your bag,,,,,gop tell the attorneys to go after all of those whites calling black people niggers and saying that they want to kill blacks...you think the word attorney scares me...You have to prove your lies. You are such a weak coward..you want to continue your hate towards blacks,,,well I can't allow you to do that.I am going to gather all on here who have an issue with you.You there are plenty

  • @jayelldude You sent me a private message on December 16 which said: "you know damn well niggers are ignorrant (sic), so why defend them...low IQ monkeys can never be taught, so why try."

Look, we don't know what your racist problem is. But we're confident that our efforts to block you are proceeding apace. Expect to be contacted.

  • @takfam07 show me that message

  • @takfam07 you are trying to build a case by sending me these fake messages

nice try!..you are breaking down like a girl because you expect blacks to bend to all of your pseudo book knowledge. You are japenese,so why do you come to a black video and insult blacks with racist insults daily..what's your problem...you think your con will work,,it's not working,,now you are lying and saying I sent you a message saying black folks are monkeys,,,lol!..nice try racist

  • excellent group,

  • This era is dead.... so sad! Music today sucks!

  • Awesome song, Today's music sucks, this shits on any song made nowadays especially with their sick moves to go with it.

  • And people say that little twat Justin Beiber plays good music. THIS is good music. Nay GREAT music!

  • Does this include reading the daily newspaper?

  • #378

  • Love it, love it, great music. We despratly need stuff more like this now from our black artist today.

  • @exkythimble - the issue that takfam07 is referring to is the lack of shame and respect that most of the artists of today exhibit, mainly the Rap artists and culture.

  • @eckythimble - you don't know what the hell you are talking about. The 70's were filled with high interest rates, high inflation, the hostage taking of the American embassy, the influence of the Soviet Union - just to name a few. President Reagan brought assurance and pride back to the citizens of the United States. It must be nice to appreciate American exceptionalism w/out making any sacrifices - as most foreigners understand.

  • @tjw0099 70's had the Global Oil crisis but the wage gap between CEO and factory worker was a fraction of today's. 70's had approx. zero murders in Iran (8 in 1980) and none in USSR save perhaps the odd spy or two. 2010's had the Global Fin crisis and thousands of American dead in Iraq and Afghanistan. Reagan used the simple formula of making Americans "scared" of the USSR then shaking his fist at the USSR to make Americans feel "relieved" whilst shifting wealth to the rich. You fell for it.

  • I was in the sixth grade when this song came out. Man, what great memories. Songs were so excellent back then. The artists wanted to please, to paint a picture, to make everyone feel good about life. And they were brilliant.

I don't like the attitude, the impertinence, and self-absorption of music artists today. Most of all, their songs are very disappointing. They miss the mark. There's nothing there but crassness, dissonance and vulgarity. Our ears and hearts don't lie.

  • @takfam07 Agreed. The sense of community so evident in the 1970s turned around abruptly when a B-grade actor came along and persuaded the working and middle classes of the lie that they would be richer by giving the upper class big tax breaks. The poisonous legacy of Reaganomics needs to be unwound before America's sense of community and "making everyone feel good about life" is restored.

  • @eckythimble Don't fall for this takfam07's pretentious comments...he has a deep contempt for black people ..very hateful guy,,just google him..or find him daily at this video comment page,,"egyptians not black,,yeah right proof is in the pictures"

  • @jayelldude You are the disturbed individual with a dozen "impersonator" accounts, spewing racist garbage all over the Internet. For some disturbed reason, you've impersonated me and many other YT users, expressing severely racist comments and attributing them to us. We're collectively working with the YouTube General Counsel to put a stop to your activities. Stay tuned.

  • @takfam07 You are consistently attacking blacks with racial stereotypes. You are a hypocrite,All of you say racist things about blacks. If a black person contest you in reponse then you start with the 18th century racist quotes.Quotes expressing that blacks are inferior. Then you go on with the IQ racial slander.Your entire comment exchange has never been about respect. You think that you can continue to come here everyday & insult black people.I say no! We can have you removed as well

  • @jayelldude A group of YouTube users have been monitoring and documenting your you tube activity the past few weeks now. You have been impersonating others in order to say the most horrible racist things about blacks, Asians, Europeans.. You have called black people "low IQ monkeys," Asians "cat-eating Japs and Chinks," Egyptians "sandniggers," and French "frog eaters." UPDATE: YouTube attorneys have assured us that they have located your internet account, and are working on next steps.

  • @takfam07 lol!..Don't lie ,,and say I called blacks low IQ monkeys...why would I say that about my own people...nice try racist. All you accuse me of I have not done...so stop your lies..Wait until I gather all the blacks,,,and let's see what they have to say about..pawlie68,ledormant,phonecian7,takfam07,academygrls111..all of you insult black people on a daily basis,,,and you are the ring leader..you are the one who says blacks are less intelligent,,,nice try racist.

  • @takfam07 ps> For the record I am neither Democrat nor Republican, just a foreign based fan of America and especially, American music.

  • i don't think there is a group out today that can harmonize and dance like they did back then...

  • Love the song. I just wanna know who was the one that said ...ya know what ...we need some huge rubber bands at the end, go ahead and put those Romper Stompers on and freestyle that groove.

  • OMG they were working those Rubberbands. lmao

  • Hand me down my walking cane hand me down my hat...

STRAIGHT PIMP SHIT right there if I must say so myself

  • Anybody know that song that has a chorus that goes "I don't know, but I've been told, the world outside is oh so cold"? TOTAL rip-off of Rubber Band Man! My mom was listening to it and I immediately thought RUBBER BAND MAN! But it's just some mediocre band stealing the chorus. And it's on the radio! Makes me mad. >:[

  • One of the MOST distinct voices in music history!

  • @PlatinumTunedEars I very much agree with you.

  • To JanickYoung -- You think they're not Rock and Roll? Au Contraire! This is the dignified side of Rock and Roll. Go learn the history of this great sound. FYI -- Rock and Roll is a direct descendant of Rhythm and Blues. Don't let anyone tell you different!

  • Someone must have medically enduced that crowd into a coma because none of them were moving or bouncing their heads!! Most of them were probably from west virginia and werent accustomed to hearing funky good sounding music!! Freakin retards! How can u not move at all to a song like this?? smh

  • @bgord969 Actually this was the Midnight Special from Los Angeles I recall, and these white kids had probably never seen anything like this in their lives! And the Spinners weren't worried about the audience in front of them - they were playing to all of America back then. I think the Midnight Special came on at, yes, Midnight on Fridays on NBC I think.

  • He's outta sight. I remember this from Stripes when they were mud wrestling.

  • i was born in 1970 and i love this kinds music, the music they play now is crap.

  • @spank2625 Hell yeah! You said it! This is real music. And in all the bad that disappoints us about the U.S. today, we can always travel back to this era and dissolve all the problems with the greatest music ever.

  • I wish I was black.

  • If you want THE SPINNERS in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, go to Rockhall.com website and VOTE for them in the online poll. It will show the HOF that we want them in and we're watching the HOF. THE SPINNERS are long overdue!

  • @MsMissile01 Agrees!!!!!

  • @MsMissile01 while they're great, I don't really think this is rock and roll...

  • I'm afraid I don't like this... I LOVE IT!!!

  • I look back at these wonderul musicians and this great show, and it saddens me how shitty this world is now.

  • @ClassicTVful the world was shitty then - information just didn't travel as fast as it does now

  • @ClassicTVful No Music! Shitty World with No Love

  • @ClassicTVful Your apart of it buddy!

  • @ClassicTVful True that. Is it normal for a white guy to listen to black singers than white singers?

  • @ClassicTVful There is still good stuff out there and new stuff. Get out of your hole dude. Don`t limit yourself to stuff in the past while the world goes by. I`m 49 and still keep an open mind to good music. . You have to see what is out there. You have a computer ,so look for new stuff.

  • @ClassicTVful Oh, of course... because the world has only had problems since 1990.

Look, you can talk about how this generation has lost respect for music that you think was truly great in favor of autotune and dubstep and all that crap, and I'll agree with you. But to pin it on "the world's problems" is either delusional or demented.

Now, if you were just making two separate yet completely unrelated statements...

  • @ClassicTVful Amen to that!

  • @ClassicTVful Amen

  • @ClassicTVful Spot on.

  • You see that young skip my man threw out there....whatchout now

  • dig the star of david on his glasses!

  • I watched the Spinners do this song the last show at Emerald City in NJ.

Emerald City shut down many years ago.

  • Actually the Spinners were nominated...the official inductees will not be announced until April. They are long overdue. Is there anything the public can do to make sure they are elected into the Hall of Fame. This is one of the most all time soulful R&B groups. "This group is out of sight...everything they do, seem to come out right!"

  • The Rubberband Man has been voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so those polyester blue jackets are now immortalized.

  • 2:52 is the best part

  • I love this live version better....such a lucky audience!!

  • these guys rock!!

  • These dudes are outta sight!!! Everything they do seems to come out right!!! The Spinners are AWESOME!!!
