What you meant to say was that Greenwood was disqualified for plagiarism. Soundtracks can contain anything they want, but not when you try to stamp your name on it and say it's yours when it is NOT. That's why.
it was something he composed himself. to be precise, the litigious song was 'CONVERGENCE', the music during the explosion scene, which featured in his other O.S.T.
If you use a filesharing service like Limewire, you mock Greenwood and so many other composers by stealing from them. At Rhapsody, Amazon, ITunes, or Legalsounds, you can download individual songs instantly for as little as a dollar each (legalsounds has em for 15 cents apiece)!
technically it's not an original score because he used pre-material from "popcorn superhet receiver", brahms, and arvo part. it's a great soundtrack but the academy always turns down great contenders because of technical bullshit. it's why "the thin blue line" didn't win best documentary. it was entered under nonfiction, not documentary.
@FungusToes The reason they couldn't nominate Jonny for an Oscar is because their guidelines state that no sections or music from an original score can be taken or reprised from another composition. Unfortunately, they composition titled "Proven Lands" among others had sections taken from Jonny's piece "Popcorn Superhet Receiver," which was composed a few years before he scored There Will Be Blood. :(

at about 2:00 and 2:06 before the strings play, i heard a noise almost like an inhale. is it something the instruments are doing or what?

@reCupcake It sounds like the player is inhaling, sometimes performers take deep breaths while performing.

Daniel Day-Lewis was fucking awesome, but it could be argued that the music is the real star of this movie.

Hmm... I don't understand why this wouldn't win best soundtrack.
Cuoin 3 years ago 8
It contained a song from another project so wasn't eligible to be nominated.

He didn't plagiarise. The soundtrack consists of work he had done for other projects. It was all his.

how the hell can you be suspect of "plagiarism" when it was somthing he already wrote >????

Some of the score in There Will Be Blood was originally intended for a record he did.

Radiohead and Greenwood specifically care, but still..
Hypknowsis 2 years ago
Yes. The songs they design make up a good deal of their livelihood.
handofstand 2 years ago
Woops. I meant they DON'T really care. Typo.
Hypknowsis 2 years ago
radiohead actually enjoys those kids of things because it ruins recording companies and distributes their music
EvanWentExtreme 2 years ago
yeah they dont care, they allowed people to download in rainbows for free
shegwin 2 years ago 4
Well, if they themselves said they don't, then I am obviously wrong about them caring, aren't I?
But to Evan: you cannot live on fame alone, and this is why the GPL license permits those who develop under it to sell their programs.

Yes. Once again the Oscar show how dumb they are by not even giving a nom to what has to be the best or if not one of the best scores in 20 years.
Zuesman10 4 years ago 8
jesse james had a outstanding score also..
dlcpereira 3 years ago 4
Beautiful. They Jonny Greenwood should just bitch-slap the academy and take the Oscar for best original score.
