  • It actually is not the drum part to WIH.

I know this inside and out and I have a transcript.

You are not playing the main groove right and missing so much detail

and subtlety. Have a deeper listen. It's not it. HH part is the king kong pattern:

x xx xx like that. Not straight 8th notes. So much more that you are missing.

You are driving a semi over this intricate and cool groove. I'll post my own video soon.

  • Solid groove. Laid back, relaxed.. doesn't feel labored like a lot of covers do. Well done.

  • hey Patrickphx11.....Id like to see you keep this beat on you Wallmart kit!!!

  • what the fucking nasty groove is this it's worng very very worng go listening again and be more senssible

  • does it have to be hard technically to be worth playing? Besides, it's making it groove that's the challenging part.

  • Patrick and Ivan are jealous bitches. That was both faithful to the original and adding your own flair (which I guess makes it very very worng!).

  • @drumz4jah couldn't agree more. People so easily oversee the technicality and importance of being able to play a tight, clean groove. It's what separates the men from the boys who just blast demis.

  • @Patrickphx11 Patric shut it :P ur drumming on a wallmarkt kit

  • @14HACK3R oh come on

  • this is the real deal man, very nice playing, awesome kit too

  • Nice dude

  • sound quality is meh.

but the beat is spot on dude. i love it so much this helped me out massive amounts. i was trying to figure this out by ear and this definitely took away most of the work.

  • i think you might actually be overplaying it hahaha.

i like how you hit hard though cause everyone gets so obsessed with garibaldis touch and really you gotta just play with your own style.

  • Well done. It would been better from a side angle because David's beats are always busy with ghost notes on the snare.

  • Nice job....my teacher Mr. Carlo out of San Jose explained this arrangement to me in the mid 70's. It was the 2nd funk song I learned. There is the push pull technique that was incorprated for the RH. I know this arrangement so well, that I was mimicking the brass and vocal parts...

  • I never looked at it as push pull...that's interesting. Thanks for the compliment!

  • yea man! as a bassist who is frustrated w/ every drummer I play this tune with all i can say is AMEN!

  • Hey, thanks! That means a lot coming from a bass player that plays this tune...I've never actually had a chance to play it live.

  • yes man i feel you as i bassist myself...i also get frustrated with drummers...some just dont know how to groove...there all about double bass and shit and it kinda makes me sad lol

  • Ya, man if feel you. I'm a drummer and i used to use dp more than dp and hh. But got into funk and i use db maybe twice a month now lol. IMO when the hithat goes you also loose ghost notes to the dp too.

  • Solid. You even nailed the offbeat 16th note bit. Mine always sounds like crap. =P

  • Now let me ask you the eternal question....What is hip!? Nice man
