It could be that the draw rein type thing freaked the horse out when it lifted its head up it freaked out and felt trapped because he couldnt move his head
This is a perfect example of why so much training and spook-proofing goes into making a successful vaulting horse. I know things happen, but this just proves how dangerous it can be and why such even-tempered horses are chosen.
why in the world are you using a Liverpool curb bit? You should never lounge a horse using a curb let alone using the slots any where near the most severe. That horse had no way of getting away from the curbs action when he extended his neck.
Glad everyone was alright! And your vaulters did a marvelous job not panicking and you all handled the situation very well! Congrats on your Sunday success!
The lunger should NOT have let go of the lunge rope because what if the horse took off the vaulters would have no control of it everyone handled everything very well i think
I don't know a thing about vauliting, but I do know that the horse falling was not caused by vaulting. It was simply a freak accident. If you've been around horses long enough, you would know that these things happen. I think everyone in the video handled it well, so kudos to them. I'm so glad nobody got hurt :)
Ouch. It looked like the horse's butt was to heavy and it fell. But that is prob not what happened. Beautiful horse though. He or she has an amazing mane. Every time I try to do that it always looks like a mess. Lol
@ncridingstar0112 you have to use side reins for vaulting, especially at the trot or canter. I agree with you on the lunge line though, if they would've stopped pulling, the horse would've stopped sooner.
@IkutoFanGirl1718 first of all the kidneys aren't right below the skin. they're INSIDE the freaking horse there is no possible way for the kidneys to be affected by a rider.
well lets start with one thing, nothing with horses is ever 100% safe, their animals starters for ten, with minds of there own, any horse how ever 'safe' and 'bombproof' holds an elemente of danger from shear fact of their size and power. This... is an accident! Things happen, just like with any other sport! I dont see why such a fuss is being made, they are all trained at what they do and know how to handle these situations, that one was handled very well,
it could have errupted into something worse, you can hear the wind howling! not that thats saying that if your highly trained nothing can go wrong, because of course the fact you have to face is... things can! thats part of the thrill. They do it because they enjoy it, they are gonna know the risks, and its great to hear that all went well the next day!! beautiful horse! glad all was good in the end x
Get OVER it all you people that think they are not promoting vaulting correctly. This is REAL LIFE!!! and sometimes accidents happen. I for one am GLAD they posted this.
are you seriously using a shank bit with side reins? that is messed up. also, like some of the others said, perhaps this is not the best way to portray vaulting...
why promote the fact your horse fell? doesn't say alot for the team who don't seem to care what others think. fall and problems stay within the team. They are not broadcasted!!
I don't know if you're a vaulter but this isn't great promotion of the sport that I know to be incredibly safe. Very glad the horse and people involved were not hurt and I'm sure the incident was discussed at thier home barn so it wouldn't happen again.
We do not know what happened. First the music stuck, then the wind started howling. It was also raining, not hard but it was terribly cold. We think she saw something, startled, then panicked. The second and third fall was because the lunge line was caught in her legs. The vaulters went on to perform on Sunday and Ribbon, the horse was perfect.
That horse is a freaking superstar. Gotta love draft breeds eh? Didn't freak out half as bad as he could have. It could've been so much worse.

The horse was hurt as a matter of fact. You provoked the accident by using side reins with shanks. Use your good sense!!!!

We know vaulting is incredibly safe. We do not blame the horse we blame US. Our vaulters chose to go back on the next day and finish the show.
