It was a very close fight. Many of Shields fans thought he won it. I am a big fan of Jake's and he came close wining the final rounds and doing damage to GSP's septum (inner nose) causing bleeding behind the eye which swelled.
St Pierre was a mess with the eye, the nose and bruising on both cheek bones, but for me the 48-47 outcome was right. Shields needed one more decisive round. You have to take the belt from a sitting champ.
I want a rematch, both fighters would be more aggressive.
Shields didn't beat and batter GSP at all.. He got 2 decent punches in that cut him.. Didn't win a round in my opinion.. GSP did what he always does which is WIN!
Shields only real momentum came after he poked GSPs eye damn near out. Not saying it was intentional or anything, but the reality of the situation was that the fight was all GSP until he was rendered half blind by an narly poke.
If it went 5 rounds with GSP able to see we'd have seen 5 more rounds of Shields being picked apart by a superior fighter who fought the entire fight according to his game plan.

Shields beat 3 time Heavyweight World Champ & TUF Show finalist Vinnie Margalheas in the finals of the Pro Absolutes.
Also won the Pan Ams in Jiu Jitsu & Sub Wrestling all in 2005. He beat 14 WC black belts and several very good brown belts, all as a purple belt. AJJ.

Sheilds might have a chance but I wasn't very impressed with his Kampmann fight, there were a few times when it looked like Sheilds was rocked by knees when he was going for a takedown so the holes are there GSP just has to be smart and take advandage of them

If you follow MMA news you saw last week that four of Shields training partners have become vegetarians after training with him. Jon Fitch, the Diaz brothers are veggies now. Shields recovery time is so fast according to Fitch that it made him want to try the diet, still on.
Too many awesome strikers work on their BJJ for MMA when they should be working on their wrestling takedown defense. Taking BJJ is good for striker if they find themselves on their back anyway, but they would be more deadly if they were hard to take down like Cain Velasquez. Good strikers should train with wrestlers most and most of the time. Imagine a Mike Tyson or Pacquiao or Yodsanklai who can't be taken down.

His grappling is why Fitch has achieved the level he has in the sport but Shields ragdoll's him.

Minotauro was submitted CONSTANTLY by Rousimar Palhares when they sparred together at BTT from 2003 to 2007 (despite the fact Minotauro outweighed him by over 40 pounds). Nogueira isn't even the best heavyweight MMA grappler; Werdum is a far better technician than Nog ever was.
Also, are you aware that Jacare is widely considered to be among the top three greatest grapplers of all time? He would tap Shields handily.

It was a very close fight. Many of Shields fans thought he won it. I am a big fan of Jake's and he came close wining the final rounds and doing damage to GSP's septum (inner nose) causing bleeding behind the eye which swelled.
St Pierre was a mess with the eye, the nose and bruising on both cheek bones, but for me the 48-47 outcome was right. Shields needed one more decisive round. You have to take the belt from a sitting champ.
I want a rematch, both fighters would be more aggressive.

Shields only real momentum came after he poked GSPs eye damn near out. Not saying it was intentional or anything, but the reality of the situation was that the fight was all GSP until he was rendered half blind by an narly poke.
If it went 5 rounds with GSP able to see we'd have seen 5 more rounds of Shields being picked apart by a superior fighter who fought the entire fight according to his game plan.
Would GSP knock him out? Doesn't seem likely, but he'd win again. Soundly.

@Cheebzsta It was a punch, the small knuckle of the of Shields left jab went right into St Pierre's eye in the last two minutes of the 3rd round. The Commission and the UFC did frame by frame. It was a right cross in the 4th that damaged the nose.
Shields landed several jabs to the eye and a number of straight right punches as well, but the shots can be seen on any normal DVD player. You can slow down to 30 frames for second, then you see the exact shot and the instant reaction.

Style wise I think you are right GSP was a tough match up for Shields, & he stayed as far away as possible, for fear of getting taken down.
Silva on the other hand has a hole in his wrestling game that has been taken advantage of by fighters with a lot less grappling skills than Shields.

Shields beat 3 time Heavyweight World Champ & TUF Show finalist Vinnie Margalheas in the finals of the Pro Absolutes.
Also won the Pan Ams in Jiu Jitsu & Sub Wrestling all in 2005. He beat 14 WC black belts and several very good brown belts, all as a purple belt. AJJ.

Jake Shields is unbeaten in over six years, he won nine of his last dozen fights by TKO or sub, even though he went up and down 15lbs twice and fought 3 of his last 12 in Strikeforce.

Too many awesome strikers work on their BJJ for MMA when they should be working on their wrestling takedown defense. Taking BJJ is good for striker if they find themselves on their back anyway, but they would be more deadly if they were hard to take down like Cain Velasquez. Good strikers should train with wrestlers most and most of the time. Imagine a Mike Tyson or Pacquiao or Yodsanklai who can't be taken down.

Jake Shields shows us in multiple grappling tournaments that he is the best Grappler in MMA.
His grappling is why Fitch has achieved the level he has in the sport but Shields ragdoll's him.
This is not the only one sided bout for Shields, same against 3 time heavyweight BJJ Black belt World Champ Vinnie Margalhaes to win the Pro-Absolutes (all weights) Shields gave up 40lbs and two belt classes, Shields was purple belt.

Minotauro was submitted CONSTANTLY by Rousimar Palhares when they sparred together at BTT from 2003 to 2007 (despite the fact Minotauro outweighed him by over 40 pounds). Nogueira isn't even the best heavyweight MMA grappler; Werdum is a far better technician than Nog ever was.
Also, are you aware that Jacare is widely considered to be among the top three greatest grapplers of all time? He would tap Shields handily.

@TheNightwolf13 Yes he is at MMA grappling, different stance, set ups etc. If you want to see him beat Vinnie its on the side bar, Jake Shields (EliteXC Champ) vs (UFC, TUF)
You can also see him choke out Leo Santos 7 time BJJ black belt World Champ and you can watch Santos Tap Out GSP in 90 seconds all on side bar.(both Shields & GSP were purple belts at ADCC)
Jake Shields is a real sub grappling wizard, as are Roger and Jacare, but his MMA grappling is the best now that Nog has gotten older

@tanglestrangle shields is great on the ground but is that enough to win?guess we'll find out at UFC 129.GSP WINS.then everyone will be watching the next contender's videos.yes gsp has lost but came back to avenge those losses and beat champions in thier prime (hughes,penn)do you really feel that the 15 fighter shields beat are any stronger than the fighters gsp beat in the ufc?i think not .shields may have beat fitch in this video but he didnt give fitch a 5 round pounding like gsp did.

@ojicreewarcry gsp should be nervous tho, shields has beaten good strikers like nehderson and dailey, as well as grapplers as in this video, so gsp has to be smart and not give him any chance to get close and take him down... think about how gsp beat bj and hughes, he took them down and controlled them, will he want to do that with shields? i dont think he'll get another left jab victory like he did against koscheck

Where are these fans when it comes to mma??? Most mma fans i've come across hates grappling... understandably LnP gets annoying... but many fans boo at this and call it LnP!!! Need fans like these. Lnp = lay n' pray, an action of doing nothing except holding an opponent down while gazing at the clock as time shortens out to get a decision win.
