Some program, you told it to fire from this point to that point, then back again. A simple strafe would have gone from bottom to top. God bless the US Military.

No doubt it was a steep angled strafe to get all the rounds to hit but that's what a good pilot knows to do. The sparks you see are not from the bullets, but from the materials in the concrete reacting to the violent separation of materials. The projectile weight of a 30mm AC is between 350-ish to 450-ish grams (depending on type) - thus way more then 1/4 or 1/2 a pound and closer to a full pound. Each round is in effect fully comparable to a typical hand grenade.

Thanks for the video. The reason for the DU rounds is to penetrate tank armor. The A-10 is called the "tank killer" as well as "Warthog". I've heard their GAU-8 live fire and it sounds like a chain saw. Very impressive, and being former Army I apppreciate close air support. Glad they're on our side. I have friends that fly/flew the A-10 and as was mentioned below, there is no hard evidence that DU rounds themselves are any worse than the effects of radon in your basement.

The Air Force uses strafing runs because they are more accurate, minimizing friendly casualties and collateral damage, so JDAMs don't always do the trick. DU is used because it is an extremely dense and hard material, perfect for tearing apart al-Qaeda jerkoffs.

@shaunhill13 you know that the A10 fires two types of rounds right? The GAU8 can use DU API (armor piercing incendiary) and/or HEI (High explosive incendiary). The A10 in this video was most likely firing HEI round because: A-Mission was most likely CAS against personnel,structure, light vehicle, etc not tanks and hajjis dont even use tanks. B-The impact looks like High Explosives. An API round would not create a big explosion or sparks. DU rounds relies kinetic energy, not explosive like HEI

@R4ND0MJ03 The primary problem is cost. A JDAM unit for a weapon with a similar area of effect costs almost $40,000, and the Maverick alternative cost at least $150,000. A 3 second burst from a GAU-8 usually costs less than $20,000. it's almost twice as cost effective, with similar results. Standoff weapons are only used as a necessity on the A-10, if there is no local threat to the aircraft, the preferred method is to use the cannon.

The projectile weight of a 30mm AC is between 350-ish to 450-ish grams (depending on type) - thus way more then 1/4 or 1/2 a pound and closer to a full pound. Each round is in effect fully comparable to a typical hand grenade.

Thanks for the video. The reason for the DU rounds is to penetrate tank armor. The A-10 is called the "tank killer" as well as "Warthog". I've heard their GAU-8 live fire and it sounds like a chain saw. Very impressive, and being former Army I apppreciate close air support. Glad they're on our side. I have friends that fly/flew the A-10 and as was mentioned below, there is no hard evidence that DU rounds themselves are any worse than the effects of radon in your basement.

The Air Force uses strafing runs because they are more accurate, minimizing friendly casualties and collateral damage, so JDAMs don't always do the trick. @shaunhill13 you know that the A10 fires two types of rounds right? The GAU8 can use DU API (armor piercing incendiary) and/or HEI (High explosive incendiary). The A10 in this video was most likely firing HEI round because: A-Mission was most likely CAS against personnel,structure, light vehicle, etc not tanks and hajjis dont even use tanks. B-The impact looks like High Explosives. An API round would not create a big explosion or sparks. DU rounds relies kinetic energy, not explosive like HEI

@R4ND0MJ03 The primary problem is cost. A JDAM unit for a weapon with a similar area of effect costs almost $40,000, and the Maverick alternative cost at least $150,000. A 3 second burst from a GAU-8 usually costs less than $20,000. it's almost twice as cost effective, with similar results. Standoff weapons are only used as a necessity on the A-10, if there is no local threat to the aircraft, the preferred method is to use the cannon.
