@cosmoalexia thanx for your concern, but I had to scrap that car as the garage wanted £1800.57p to repair damage to the engine, glad now I never paid for a dip stick
Thankfully my new car has a dipstick, but I think it must be too short as there is no reading on it...will need to take it to my nearest garage soon anyway as there are funny noises coming from the front of the car
No Offense but this is crap if you need to watch this to change oil you don't need to be working on your car! lol pull the plug place pan under car. allow oil to drain Into pan Replace plug Locate and remove oil filter normally twisted on sometimes located in the block on newer motors. Now as far as oil choice i always always always use castrol gtx havoline or mobile 1 for sure if you can afford mobile 1 thats the way to go. now remember 4 quarts make a gallon my diesel uses 8 quarts so 2 gallon
my car hasn't got a dipstick so i used a bit of bamboo stick to check the oil but it fell in, i used a longer bit but it too fell in, can anybody tell me how long the dipstick should be?
there is a big diffrence with synthetic oils. i would rather synthetic then regular oil simpaly becuase i would not want to have to do a majour repair, or replace on my engine.
Mobil 1 is the only choice! I've got 201690 thats right over 2 hundred thousand on a 4.6l v8 mustang and all I've EVER used is 5w30 full synthetic mobil 1. no leaks.
So far I'm enjoying what I'm doing. Overhauling this engine seems to be labor intensive but fun. I'm interested in learning more about this subject since I'm seeming to enjoy it. I hope then that I can learn how to rebuild transmissions and stuff. From there, I'd like to learn more about general automotive mechanics. I might enjoy being a mechanic, and it pays pretty well from what I understand.
I don't know if the last comment took or not. It hasn't posted, so sorry if it eventually posts and I repeat. I'm taking a small engine repair course for the second time, as the first time the subject was entirely new to me and I didn't get everything I was taught. This second time, the teacher has a pickup motor he's overhauling, and he's allowing me to help with this so I can learn it. We just replaced the main bearings and secured the crankshaft to the block with the main bearing caps.
Ok, I see it did post, so time to move on. I'm looking for videos on the net to show a major overhaul from start to finish so I can study ahead for the next things I'm going to be doing and be comfortable with it when I do it in real life on this engine I'm helping overhaul. Could you possibly post videos on this process?
I'm a computer/network tech by trade, but due to living in a small town, I cannot get a job in that field. I'm currently taking a small engine repair course for the second time, as the first time I took it, it was a new subject that I knew nothing about and I didn't get everything. My teacher has a pickup engine that he's letting me overhaul. Of course, he's standing over me and teaching me as I go, but I was interested in finding a video of this on the internet.

depends which brand you buy. If you use quality brands like ELF, TOTAL, MOBIL or FUCHS, mineral would be fine no matter what car you have, new or old.
I use ELF mineral and get great fuel economy even performance.

marketing had convinced you and many others to think synthetic is better.
