I watched this other documentary on YouTube about a Chinese explorer who visited Angkor (During the time it was inhabitted and not in ruins).

He wrote in his journal that women were topless and "highly sexed." I don't know what that means.

@unknownally it means that women (of the high class and servers of the king) were used for sex and or prophet of it. women of high class were to represent the height of the cambodian culture (even today) and were modeled after the celestial maidens of angkor wat, the apsaras.

Instead of being in school, so many khmer kids have to sacrifice their future in order to help the family out. Unfortunately this present government is not doing much to help. Khmer children are the future of cambodia. If we overlook them, there will be another Pol Pot comes along and KR will return all over again. Many of us are not 100% khmers, but we feel just as much pain as other khmers. It may not be much but I must help in any way possible. Not with the temples!

I am not agree with you said the house is all time traditional Cambodian house Choulean.Satellite photograph shown the modest of Cambodian village ,communication road ,it mean that Khmer house was modest not like what we see in this clip .Your perception toward Khmer is the same as French colonialism,Viet.,Cambodian Chinese.French believe that Khmer are timid ,short intelligent.They did not study Khmer wisdom that why they taxed from Khmer and build road,school,hospital in Hanoi.

Too much "baab and buun" are the reasons what make us khmers weak. Most khmers donate money to build Wats and Buddha statues instead of schools. Not many khmers care about those kids in the orphange but the statues in the temples. A few khmer rouge managed to killed us by millions. Instead of stand up and fight, we pray and hope that the KR soldiers dont come and take our family in the middle of the night. If Americans only pray, the US would not have been "United". This is our ways!

You are right in some extend 1Ronin187.Before 1955,I remember ,pagoda in my village had at least 300 Buddhist monk,after that the number drastically drop.Most teenager thrilled go to modern school instead of wasted their time in monk hood .Khmer change very fast toward modernization .Because wars and foreign occupation made them poor and tire and don't care about where and what to live just try to survive.

I totally agreed. I am not saying Buddhism is bad. Khmer Empire lasted 600 years and Khmers were Hindus/Brahmans. Khmer History would have been different since the reigning of King Jayavarman VII.

Watching this clip reminds me much of our Khmer treasures are taken by the West, especially the French, but US has its share as well. It saddens me that these foreigners claimed to restore artifacts and "help", but what they have done was helping themselves to Khmer treasures. I want to say to those looters: "Enjoy Khmer treasures while you still can ... Khmer will re-claim their treasures!"

Yes the French took many artifacts, if you want to know how much visit the French museum. And they figures out where most treasures are hidden by identify the interpretation of each statue which houses around the temple.
