  • That Charlie Haden record is pretty good tbf.

  • Chris Probert died not long after. I have no doubt his obsession and hence his lifestyle contributed.

  • "not humanly possible" to have them off the floor?

for fuck sake man, have you not heard of SHELVING UNITS???

  • I found this clip sad actually...he does seem like a disorganized collector rather than a hoarder but it's a fine line. The guy knows he has a problem but feels helpless and at the same time he has Alan's camera pointing at him making him feel even more self-conscious. My vinyl collection (12inch records) I estimate at around 1800 (more or less) which I've actually accumulates over 20 years which I guess is pretty reasonable ... my vinyl addiction is primarily related to crate digging, flea mar

  • @mligon I hate when people just horde music. I can't stand that, if I don't like it or it has no value to me personally, I won't have it. But if someone stepped on any of my CD's or records, yes I would be very mad, your stepping on a part of my life. But you know then again I don't have all of my stuff unorganized and LYING ALL OVER THE FLOOR. I organize my music by genre and artist too, to keep things clean and easy to find.

  • @squezey1 But you what I find funny. Not a single collector ever has the intention of becoming one when they first start buying music. For me it started with a few CD's and records that I loved, then it extended to more favorites and then I bought even more because I loved those releases too and then long story short that's how it all started.

  • Is this the same Chris Probert who operated Crisco's Record Works?

  • defintley need to organize them.lol.

  • what a great doc,i can relate to this poor guy in some wayz

  • OMG...get a freakn' shelf!!!! How can you even care about your records just laying on the floor like that?

  • @mrhoffame its psychological.... he's a hoarder... although a specialised one (vynil). lol

    hoarders are chaotic.

think about record collectors on this level... they hoard so many records of all kinds.... its impossible that they like all of that music... people usually have preferences in music....

  • @OBSysteme I agree with you on everything until you said "it's impossible that they like all that music" I'm not sure how familiar you are with the vinyl community here on youtube, but ther are a number us guys that rooms full fo lps and are very much collectors, not hoarders. (Even though as collectors we walk that fine line lol). Anyway, check out some of my vids and see if it is "impossible" to like all that music.

Take care. Thanks for the response.

  • @mrhoffame you tell him B! i got your hoarding RIGHT HERE.....jus kidding! hoarders don't take pride in their stuff, and there's definitely no level of organization.i can't see this guy as a hoarder,to me he's a disorganized collector.but then again i am biased....i would've at least wait until my guest left to check that LP that got stepped on,depending on what it was!

  • @dimebagdave77 hoarders can and do take pride in their stuff. i've known collectors who were also hoarders and hoarders who were just hoarders. a collection is a collection, it doesn't have to be alphabetized and behind a glass case. just because someone has an affliction with hoarding doesn't mean they don't take pride in what they have/collect. hoarding is an affliction that has nothing to do with being a collector - but both characteristics sometimes appear in one individual.

  • @redkettle7 i agree with you, this kind of thing never entered my mind before the TV shows came about.i suppose i have some things in common with hoarders.but worthless junk has no place in my collection!

  • @mrhoffame I'm hoarder-collector myself. my weak spot is vintage computers : P

I agree that some collectors are super organized and manage their collection so well that they even make money from it (trade, sales). I guess if you make it so that the activity does not take over your life completely then there is no pathology.

I still contend that its impossible to like so much music. but maybe I have norrow taste. however, I am guilty of holding on to albumsI know friends & family will enjoy.

  • @OBSysteme I understand what you saying. Hey, have you or are you involved much with the vinyl community here on youtube?

  • @mrhoffame I have some vynil and a few vintage turn tables, but I am more of a tape-head.... but above all, I am more into computer-generated music (not to confuse with mp3).

  • Lol, what a clown...

  • If you had seen the whole documentary, you'd realize this isn't exactly the funniest scene. It's actually quite poignant. And I do agree with the collector that Zweig is playing a mind game with him - probably a necessary one, but maybe a bit too direct for someone who seems so fragile and may shut down at the directness. Great doc.

  • dude just get some fucking shelves so you don't fuck yer shit up?!!!

  • Insane, but funny, I hope never end up like that too.
