The tutor keeps on saying Brazilian samba but shows more of a flamenco dance. The samba step she shows is actually danced by men passistas in Rio, not Ladies. They have to wear platform heels, so it's better to learn dancing on the toe if you're a lady. General advise wether you're a drummer or a dancer if you can count to four, you'll capable to learn how to samba!

Clearly there are lots of different samba styles, I haven't found two people who do it the same. I like this video but clearly she is an amazing very advanced dancer; the footwork is clearly explained, but then when they pan out she's moving all over the place- hips, arms, waist; can you break it down more so its just feet then show how to add in everything else?

Hello people,

the Brazilian samba has couple of ways to be executed, this is just on style. There's a much more, there's the academic style where the foot work is done shifting the weight back. You also have different ways to count it, 1 and 2 ( the other way to count would be 1, 2, 3) and also the back, skip front, back, alternating rt leg and lef leg. Any ways just have fun and follow the DRUMS and you will be fine. Shimmy to all!!!

My personal opinion is that the thing she shows in the beginninng does not look like samba. She does all three taps with the same foot, that is plain wrong. Also I'd say there should be no taping with the tip, it's all heels and full foot on the ground.

A more reasonable explanation would be

1. Right heel back (crossing behind left foot)

2. Left foot does small step forward

3. Right foot joins behind left.

Then repeat, starting with left heel.

Pay attention. she said this is BASIC. As in you have never seen or tried Samba before. Maybe you should walk into a trig class and feel stupid when they tell you to start with basic math. Same thing. If you have no experience, it really helps to start at teh beginning.
