  • Has anyone done a desktop Torus allowing 2 axes of wrapround.

    e.g 3x3 desktops

  • sen me your skydome!

  • Now getting lost in that BlackStratBlues album. Many thanks for drawing attention to it. It shall get further exposure at the hands of me and others. :D

  • how do you get the dockbar to work at the bottom of the desktop?

ive tried ubuntu 8.10 which i am currently using and the only thing i can find close to it is an a app called SimDock.

and everytime i load it, it says something like

"Can't load image from file 'usr/share/firefox/icons/mozicon128.png': file does not exsist"

    can you help me please?

  • WTF? fishs in the cylinder how do you do that??

  • where can i download it??

  • Great music! Downloading

  • What is this music?

  • these are some of the best compiz effects i've ever seen, and i've seen just about all that fusion comes with

  • As is it that song???

  • ok. I have a question. on several of the compiz shortcuts it is SUPER+BUTTON4. What is Button4? I tried number 4 but it didn't do anything.

    Thanks,

    alex

  • button1 = left mouse button

button2 = middle (scrollwheel) BUTTON (clicking down on scrollwheel)

    button3 = right mouse button

    button4 = scroll up

    button5 = scroll down

    hope that helps.

  • how do you made the start? blender or kdenlive?

  • kdenlive, and I used blender for the 3d animation.

  • Thanks for the heads up about compiz new tricks.

As for the annotations, in general, I think that they should not be too many and/or with long text.

  • The annotations are good. Especially for videos like this here you don't have time to mention everything (like the big bunny trailer). Also you can update us on things like the atlantis plugin rather that having to make another video saying that it now supports the curved desktop.

  • Just look at the damn credits. He tells you what the song was.

  • GREAT Well Done

  • The cylinder looks damn good, as does the magnifier.

What I really liked about the video though was... The background music =p Mind telling us the track?

  • Sorry, I found out by finishing looking at the vid. 'Off to download it!

  • So what is the name of this music? :)

  • Blackstratblues - Nights In Shining Karma, I think. You can download it for free from their/his(it's a solo guitarist from what I understand) website!

  • I like the music too :P

  • May I ask which program(s) you used to make the zooming effect at the beginning of the video? Looks interesting...

  • The animation was made with blender. I made a cube and pasted flattened-out versions of the compiz fusion logo. Worked out pretty well.

  • well done

  • WOW!

  • Excelent. Congratulations.

  • cool

  • How do you record this?

  • I use a program called "xvidcap" with a terminal command to set the options. Research it on google for details... i'm not at home right now.

  • If you want a faster but less efficient solution, "recordmydesktop" also works well.

  • Yep, I've tried it... too slow for my computer (which doesn't have extremely powerful specs).

I should technically get a capture card I guess... hmm..

  • I may be wrong though... perhaps capture cards aren't what I had thought they were... :D

  • I'm a ubuntu user since 2 years ago, very cool but for me maybe too much... I like my simple compiz fusion... a question... could you say the name of the song??, i like very much....

  • You seem to know quite a bit about linux if you had to compile everything to get the new features, are there any books you could recommend? By the way, is that an emerald theme you are using?

  • I haven't used any books so I can't really recommend any. And I am a relatively new user actually. Compiling is simple once you get the hang of it, but if you don't know certain things you can mess up the install when updating, etc.

I would recommend the internet for learning Linux, or any other computer thing... it's how I learned HTML and Python!

The theme is just GWD with the Glossy ubuntu theme and human-murrine theme (I changed the colors so the decorator changed too).

  • Wow that looks amazing! Is it possible to implement a seamless circular desktop where you can center on any part of the cylinder instead of the 3 or more you have. You could then slide the desktop left or right as you need it.

  • Right now, since there's no input redirection (allowing the cursor to select points that have been changed from their "real" locations on the static unchanged desktop), this is not possible. However, as soon as this is implemented, we will be sure to see stuff like freewins having correct input, usable scaled windows, an infinite desktop space that adjusts to what you need, and a cylinder that could be rotated any which way.

As for now, no that would not be possible with mouse input. :(

  • You love Green, right?

    [I mean the color :)]

  • Yes, it's my favorite color. :D I actually had Hardy default for a few weeks, while kiba-dock svn was too buggy to use, then got sick of it and finally switched back to what I always screencast with--green and kiba-dock with no gnome-panels to be found.

  • Fantastic.A qstn dear Puttabutta:

is into Hardy Heron all installed by default or what extra packages we need to install trough synaptic to have all this plugins working on compiz fusion!? Tks in advance, great job

  • I actually compiled everything from the latest git to get this, but it might be possible to install only partially using git.

I would really suggest looking in the forums for this. I bet many people have already asked. I usually end up doing it the hard way ;)

  • it's so funny!

    kaposts&gurkis

  • great!!

  • Thanks puttabutta! Love the cast.

  • very cool i hope this work well with ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron.

  • The whole video was made with Hardy, so if you know what you're doing it works fine :)

  • who plays the music and the name of the theme?

  • Please... I get these questions all the time ... I don't want to be annoying, but I did say that it's all available in the shownotes (and the music is even listed at the end of the video). I just don't like having to repeat the same information over and over... Sorry :/ (look in the shownotes, link in the description. Thanks!)

  • Woow. Amazing. Well produced.

  • Wow! This is the best Fusioncast yet. Thanks for putting the wallpaper in the show notes.

  • Im in the process to make the Linux switch, got a new compy for it even. I love Linux, its just hard to make that switch. But I know soon that I will be a full fledged linux user!

  • It really aint that hard.

Distributions like Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, or SUSE have installers which are pretty easy to use.

You just have to get the hang of the whole partition thing.

  • very cool ... and great music

  • Thanks for the feedback :)
