airbags don't help if the structures of the vehicle crush. Look at how the dummy's head gets jammed down. That's a fatality. Only thing that helps is reinforcing the roof during manufacture. There's supposed to be a government regulation coming soon, that requires SUVs to support 2 or 3x their own weight in a rollover. So that would help with new vehicles.
I have to say, these car aren't safe. My friend rolled her 08 and the roof crushed FLAT to the seats. Sad thing, it rolled once, and landed on the roof at 30mph! I thought she was dead for sure....
So where was the air bag support? The only reason why Im scared of buying am SUV is simply because of the rollover accedients, and I really love the Tahoe and Ford Expedition
Ez egy igazi Amerikai fostalicska, ha személyautóval karambolozik akkor megdöglesz, ha fának megy vagy árokba borul vagy felborul akkor Ő döglik meg,,
@gardmans1 Now how the hell I'm going to do that????? I'll leave you alone with that question. I'm no Car Designer, nor an Engineer. But I can have someone "Modify" or "Customize" the truck for me. Hell it isn't that hard to add roll cages.
I just don't see how these SUV's aren't strong enough at the pillars. I pray that I'm not a victim of a roll over crash in a Tahoe. I love Tahoes so I don't care anymore.
WHY IN THE FUCK THESE SUV'S AREN'T EQUIPPED WITH ROLL CAGES INSIDE THE A-PILLARS, AND ABOVE THE ROOF???? I HOPE THIS TEST DON'T PASS, this test receives no stars out of 5. Look at the weak pillars and roof, they're folding like a piece of paper. The first roll over my neck would've been broken severely, second roll over I'm dead. As much as I love Tahoes. I'm updating my Tahoe with roll cages, inside the A-pillars, and I'm never speeding on curve lanes with an SUV.
@jjchargerboy16 well that is the point of the test, CfIR tested both SUV with and without roll cages and to see the significant of introducing the structure.
i dont think this is a good test because the the platform its self in not going to go up or down and the car is not going to go up or down when it hits the object which in this case really CRUSHING the car
@corvetteboy10 if you look at the rail the truck is mounted on at the front of the vehicle it gets released right at the truck rolls so it is free to move up and down on the post under its own weight through the test
@corvetteboy10 i dont see what the car having indepentant front suspension has to do with the test rack haveing a free floating mount for the front of the vehicle. why dont you look closer and watch it again the test isnt putting any weight on the truck except its own
@mustangrules which causes top heaviness which leads to rollovers in the first place. they gotta figure out a way to make things as light up top and as strong as possible.
i think this test is kinda screwed, when you roll a vehicle for the most part it doesnt just hit on the one corner the hardest, usually you slam on the side, then roll over the roof, this test just shows a corner of the roof getting beat on, for those who think cause of this vid GM vehicles are shit, well then maybe you should go see the exact same tests with what ever ones you rather be in,
this is why there is crash tests and this kinda shit, to sort out the bugs before we get it in our hands.
the reason they made the test like this is because they´re measuring the strenght of the pilars and also for standarization, a rollover accident can happen by many ways; is a random event, so they have to test critical components involved in rollovers
yeah im with you on that one, i just dont agree with people that say a certain vehicle sucks when they are watching a test, there is a reason they do the tests and that is to check these things
@Ph0nixMonkey So Intelligent -NOT; GM has NOT made a major emphasis on safety, The only reason they put as much effort as they do now into any safety engineering is to compete not because they actually care about your safety. Even their more expensive vehicles (Corvette Convertible) lack safety features most competitors have- they have made NO ATTEMPT to add rollover protection to their Corvette Convertible- Mercedes has it, Volvo has it, Saab has it but GM - doesn't give a FRAK.
@Ph0nixMonkey I think You've never been in a roll-over accident. When I flipped my jeep, it was the front corner pillars that were the most impacted, the side barely had scratches.
Shit? Lets see which company the government uses...GM. Which suvs do they use...Yukon, Tahoe, Escalade, & Suburban. Sorry but I dont see them using a Ford or Dodge. You have probably never even owned a GM product.
Trucks are not ment to be the safest vehicles around smart one. If you want safety go buy an SUV. Even airbags can kill people or cause serious injury. The Tundra is a pile of shit when you compare it to domestics.
I would rather buy European & domestic cars instead of Japanese any day. Any car, no matter how safe, can still kill you. Seatbelts are the safest feature a car comes equipped with.
@raiderz111 the SIlverado has front, torso, curtain coming to a total of 8 airbags. i know, because i own a silverado. the Tundra is also a domestic truck. it is made in America with american parts and built by American machinery and American design. think before you speak. and do your research. and also, Knee airbags are useless unless there is intrusion into the passenger compartment, which is highly unlikely, i would know because i was in an accident in a Mitsu Lancer with knee airbags.
quality? buddy, I've had my 2008 Silverado for about a year now and not a single thing has gone wrong on it. it's still showroom solid. so don't go making assumptions that GM has crappy quality when you probably have never owned one.
looks quite uncomfortable to sit in after 2 crashes....I'm sortof glad i came out of my seatbelt when i rolled my truck......my neck is actually OK.....
not really.. Remember the Malibu maxx? that car was safe. I rolled mine 5 or 6 times into a ditch after a piece of metal flew off a transport truck into my tire blowing it off. I got out without a single scratch on me and the body didn't crumble like this. I was also on the highway doing about 120 km/h aswell. so don't say gm builds shit quality vehicles. if I was in a ricer I most likely would have had serious injuries.
Glad to hear you're OK and also glad GM is doing better, but they've still got some holes; the 2007-09 Chevy Silverado did poorly in IIHS side impact tests. The "ricer" Honda Fit gets a top rating of Good in the same test. (While frontal tests are not comparable across different vehicle classes, side tests are). Acura is also the only manufacturer ever to have a NHTSA 5-star rating AND IIHS Top Pick rating for every one of its cars. Mercedes, BMW & Volvo can't even match that.
@autofanatic1 why are you comparing trucks to cars? people like us who actually have jobs that we have to drive to in our trucks to do work in buy trucks regarless of their safety features. and my mom owns an Acura, and don't get me wrong it is awesome, and if i didn't need a truck I'd probably drive an Acura, but for people like us who need trucks, i am more than likely going to hit a car or get hit by a car, so i am not worried.
i like how that guy ran back. I don't think the car was going to blow up in 100 pieces.

Body on frame, the body is not the frame, only the frame is strong. Buy a car for safety.

Yes shit, like the silverado, they add side curtain airbags but no torso? where is the logic in that?
The tundra on the other hand has the RSCA and torso side airbags, as well as the knee airbag, which no domestic truck features.
