Well the worst thing here is that Children's Aid Workers here in Ontario don't have to be registered social workers to take children so none of them are required to go through the training of a social worker nor be accountable to their college once they are practicing social work. It's a horrible injustice not only to the children getting second rate "care" but to the social workers here who have to work so hard to get such little respect. <3
I wish CAS workers were like you! Most Children's Aid Workers are not registered social workers yet they practice social work. Parents are helpless without people like you in the system of child protection...I'm in Ontario, Canada.
@tanangerbitch Wow, thank you! I am not a child aid worker, but I do work with children in mental health. It is funny/sad that so many people think that social workers just "steal babies." It's nice to hear from someone who knows that actual social workers don't do that!
Awful.. no please don t be a social worker ... I heard many cases in UK ...social workers kidnap children from their families ... just for business. They deal with foster families that are payed a lot of money to "look after" other people's children. I should say to her ..shut up! and change career please ... I feel pity for you. I m a member of Unicef and I did and I m still doing a lot of thing for children who need love, but no one charge me to do that. Everybody can be a social worker.
@Broccoletta69 Most social workers don't even work with children at all, many are counselors, provide support for the elderly, advocate for the poor, facilitate programs for people with disabilities....etc. Saying that social workers kidnap children is like saying all Sunday school teachers are serial killers just because a couple of them turned out to be.
@Broccoletta69 Once you've worked in a psychiatric facility with kids who have been so abused and neglected by their parents that they have become violent, aggressive and try to literally pull your hair out and bite you when you are trying to help them, all for under $7/hr, you can tell me that "everybody can be a social worker."
Just stumbled upon your video! So funny to me! It is exactly what Social Work is about. I am an LCSW of 10 yrs working in mental health. I hear all the time about social workers stealing babies too. None of our CPS case workers are social workers. People are just not informed. Best of luck!
I have been a Social Worker since1994 & have worked for the Department for Correctional Services in South Australia as a Community Corrections Officer for the past 8 years. Keep your spirit & keep up the good work!
All those who believe that social workers are bad, clearly you have never witnessed what they actually do. Not to mention, no one can ever completely stop all the madness in the world. But without social workers and people who care.. this world would be a very dark and horrible place. There are some organization that are flawed. However, social workers work in all different aspects and areas throughout the system and world.
Good work! hey,I'm a BSW student from China and I love my major so much.Could you plz let me show ur work to my classmates?:)And I‘m looking forward to US a few years later to study MSW.hahah~
@glambertdemi Hi! Sorry I'm just now responding to your comment - but of course you can show my video! I'm so flattered to hear that you would want to! :) Good luck with your BSW!
Hey. I just finished up w/ my MSW and someone actually used this video in a class presentation. Despite all the negative comments congrats on what you're doing and good luck in your "not saving the world" but still helping people :)
When people say they are social workers without the degree they sully the name and generally work for the state. Unfortunately some parents should not have children as they are so self involved or on drugs that they cannot parent their children. Then these broken and damaged souls wind up seeking mental health services from a social worker like me. Remember the social worker when you need a non-judgmental person to talk to. We are not the enemy. We are here to help.
@1955tattoo Amen! I work with children in mental health who have come from extremely abusive and neglectful homes. No child should have to endure that kind of pain!
Great job!! I love your Passion! I will enter my undergraduate sophomore year this Fall to become a social worker, so I'm really just starting out, but I'm excited and passionate too! :)
Unfortunately, there are "bad" social workers out there, I've met a few, but no matter what career you go into, there are always a few bad apples.
This is wonderful! Like someone else said, music and laughter are such wonderful self-care strategies. It wasn't until I started doing my practicum that I realized how important everything we were taught about secondary traumatization was! I'm finishing my BSW this month, and can't wait to be able to call myself a social worker!
@pokemonprincess1988// I'm sorry that you had to endure all of that heartache. There are kids that go through hell on a daily basis, but that has no reflection upon social workers! Each individual person, that might Actually play the role of a social worker, does not equate an ethical human being. I don't know your situation and I do hope that you look into receiving help for your hurt. Social workers, as a whole, are wholeheartedly in this field to help others and improve society. Dont judge a
I just want you to know that I am an LMSW and I love your video!! It takes a true calling to be a social worker and you're going to have a tough road ahead, but your sense of humor will definitely help!
Ignore all of the negative comments as these are people that are unaware and ignorant to how truly valuable social workers truly are!
You should consider using music as a means of therapy...I use it frequently and it is awesome!
That was beautiful and funny. You are very talented. You should be a social worker and in a band. I am working on my BSW now, so I really appreciated your song. Please don't listen to the mean comments. Thank you for sharing this, I loved it.
This video was just a complete embarassment. You think that splitting families up, usually without a real reason so that the government gets more money is something to sing wishy washy songs about? If you are any type of person you will realise this when you get the job and your manager tells you steal as many newborn babies as possible.
please educate yourself about the role of a social worker. It is unrealistic for a social worker, or any other person, to 'split up families' without a significant and legitimate reason for removing the child from the environment.
honestly, it might help for you to look into therapy for yourself. it appears as though you've got some unresolved issues that you could work through!
@aimeslmfp1 You have obviously never had any involvement with them then. They knew I was being abused as a child but they didn't help me. Yet they take kids who are in OK homes. I know because I have done my research on the subject. It's a subject of interest because of what happened to me.
Very nice song. U can tell by watching it, that social work can realy have some kind of charisma - if its taken not so academicaly serious and more personaly with love. I will show it to students in czech republic as a part of some not so funny academical social work-theory presentation (which will mention its roots in USA), to lighten it little bit.
Wow you really managed to capture it all in your song :) I just finished the final exams for the degree in social work and I could see myself playing your song with my guitar, as i could really associate myself with you :) Great song, great guitar skills and i guess you will be a great social worker too :D Keep it up :)
Thank you Joy... I'm about to graduate with my MSW from Hunter College School of Social work.. This has not been easy, but it has been worth it. I don't know why your song resonates so strongly in me, but heck, it does... Maybe it's because your sincerity shines through... All I know is that I want what you have ... Love you girl...
"learning hw not to be an expert is not as easy as it sounds" .. this is the best line in your song!!!! im almost done with my BSW.. that this is really cute.. you hit on some major points on what it means to be a social worker in this song!! :)
hahah this was great! I am working towards my BSW right now and I think your video is an awesome example of how we need to be humble and not take everything so seriously (as laughter and music are great examples of self-care). Your video shows that social workers are real people too...we can't change the world, but we can listen to people's stories and support them. GREAT job, I loved it!
@JoyDivisionSouth I'm studying to be a social worker, and I'm a lesbian. I've been burned by social workers in the past too, but don't generalize us. I'm studying the "community organizing" track, and I plan to organize for LGBT and disability rights. I hardly believe I will be destroying lesbian families, considering I plan to start one.
@JoyDivisionSouth I am finishing up my BSW in May and starting my MSW this summer. I think I want to go into community-centered integrative care and get my MPH too! Lumping all social workers into the category of those who work with families is like saying all doctors are pediatricians. There are SO many kinds of social workers working with individuals, families, groups, and communities in direct practice, health, mental health, families, children, elderly, policy, and lots of NGOs.
Love it!!! I also love to sing and am a Social Worker!!! I am sure that Social Workers have many hidden talents that need to be shared more. Keep up the great work!!
