Why are you guys arguing over if its defensive kick or offensive kick? Off the back leg would primarily be an offensive kick because your coming forward with momentum, off the front leg because it pops straight up, you would use it as a defensive or 'feeling out' kick (like the jab) but you could use either or for anything. Does anyone here even train Muay Thai? Or just jump on the computer check a couple videos and research?
you can tell this guy is legit muay thai by his lower body mechanics. his hip actually turns over when he kicks, and this particular counter is only mastered through experience. props props props.
nah anyone who disses it is completly wrong. i do gymnastics and have been doing martial arts since i was 4 and im 19 now . it obviously would destroy someone if you did it. their head would hit the ground . i practice the mauy thai round house kick on my heavy bag alot in the air too and it knocks people out cold. if u did that towards the bottom of their body while pulling them your using insane power.
well in theory its not a bad kick but when you put it in practical use where the person knows what to do. i would try to get away not watch but your b etter off just kicking the leg out unless you are very a big person that could work vs someone little BUT speed will cancel that if u did a regular muay thai kick u could take their knee out and they would be done for the fight if someone is a wrestler or gymnast they may flip away if u throw them lol.
@Arcanemage420 Teep is purely defensive. it is applied when an opponent steps forward. The teep stops him in his tracks. Dumping is the counter to the teep. it is a counter to a counter.
@butaicho there isnt such thing as purely defensive, if you only know it to be deffensive, that's fine. That's as much as you know. But if people know how to use it also offensively, there isnt nothing wrong with that either. It is how much you know, the more technique, the better.
@butaicho only defensive? tell that to BPP.... its a setup like a jab, used to gauge distance. if you're only using it as a defense, I would guarantee your primary sport is not muay thai. and you need to get learned foo'.....
@raiwa09 agreed, although if you manage to get your arm there first he'd still follow through and manage to get your shoulder by a lil bit. in which case you probably can pull this move off..
@raiwa09 You obviously do not know what you are talking about. You do not know who TBA is. Go look them up. That's Thaiboxing Association of USA. The largest, oldest, Muay Thai organization in the US. Anyone that is anyone in Muay Thai know who they are. and you obviously do not.
I love doing this one, it's cool but I try to hold on to them so they don't fall, wouldn't want to hurt my sparring partners. I love the push kick too though, I use it against a lot of people who just want to come a box or brawl. I wonder why it's not used in MMA more, anyone knows?
@dannielpreto Ask Sadallah (sp?) when he introduced it to Phil Baroni (sp?). Learning MMA is a controlled method of fighting hard, but clean. Elbows to the neck or the Teep or Clavical chops aren't taught to standard MMA students. So, it with respect that they don't teach it. Just like Anderson Silva's downward kicks onto the knee is not illegal, but it should be in MMA action.
@toolfan92 I once saw a really skilled Sanshou kickboxer knocked a BJJ guy out 'cause he was too obsessed with taking the fight to the floor while intentionally ignoring all the punches and kicks.
@Voodoofreak35 BJJ guys are NOT wrestlers. BJJ guys usually have poor takedowns. its the wrestlers that are good. of cause your BJJ guy is gonna get KOed lol, Sanshou guys are trained in striking and grappling (takedowns and tdd).
Excellent counter...very basic and very effective. I've used this successfully in sparring before. It's all a matter of timing (which only comes from lots of drilling and sparring).
Good stuff, and good trick to preserve your partner. There'a always the danger when come fight time you won't go fully through with a strike because you end up not completing the movement while drilling. This allows you to do that.
So when he swept him he could have seriously messed him up with the right foot

the dude throwing the teep is flat footed.
He could be doing it like that just for demonstration purposes though.

@dannielpreto becasue of the wrestling of mma. a wrestler simply looking for the takedown will take advantage of the push kick/foot jab.

Nice move man I just got a question.
Do you or your coach/s train in Muay Boran too or just the Muay Thai for your striking style?
nateDaOG 2 years ago
muay thai is more striking. muay boran is more submissive...............
