  • I'm sure the many Dream theater listeners would agree with me that from a musical standpoint, Images and Words and Awake triumph over all that they have written. I consider the musicality and variation (what makes music interesting) between Awake and Images and Words exeptional, but I find Images and Words "takes the cake" to use the cliche. I say this largely because of this song, and Learning to Live. Both of them are Progressive masterpieces in their eccentricities.

  • 7:23...... there is my orgas!!!!

  • Listen to this, then follow it up with the Dance of Eternity. You'll dream like never before.

  • Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles!

  • i just had an orgasm!!

  • i looove this intro section, even the way he sings the first lines.

I just love dream theater's music. Not all of it is nice to listen to, but they are all so talented.

  • What songs aren't nice to listen to? I like them all

  • Some songs are VERY jazzy, or just too calm for my taste.

  • yeah like (the best of times) but that song is still fucking awesome.

  • 4:19 - 5:45: Take the best orgasm you've ever had, multiply it by 10, and you're nowhere near it.

  • Trainspotting (Y)

  • is this a part of the song or is this the whole song? is all the parts the whole song?

  • part 2 is their album Scenes From a Memory, which just takes this story and goes into much more detail.

  • no its only pts1 metropolise has 2 or 3 pts

  • 4:19 - brilliant as well (;

  • Sure, but Octavarium is so cool, too !

  • 1:32 - 1:50

The best part of the song... so powerful!!!

    Long live to DT!!!

  • This song is incredible. didnt gentle giant produce this album?

  • jake f loves this song!!!!!

  • best song by DT

  • bellix canz!!!!!!!

  • Its funny. When I first heard this song, the solo sounded to me like a bunch of random shit thrown together. Now, its one of my favorite songs of all time! I'm trying to learn it on guitar, and all I can say is this: IT'S HARD.

  • LOL no doubt. Post it on YouTube when done

  • after six, people won't see your comment so i think six thumbs down would be the max unless people want to thumbs down for no reason

  • amazing comment lol

  • can't believe people liked your comment (including me)

or it's that people dont want to let u know how many thumbs downs u can get lmao

  • lololol. pwned. unless this was ur purpose, which im guessing it is. but ive seen 2000 thumbs up before so yeah... too bad. u lost both ways, i am sorry

  • Looks like you've reached the record for the best comment.

  • 4:41-4:55 AWSOME!!!!!

  • One of the my All Time Favorites.

Honestly, there was nothing really similar before or after this particular song was born. And when you realize the foundation of it was made in 1985 already (without the lyrics), it's even more impressive. "Images and words" as a whole was the album that changed my perception of music in general permanently.

    Thank you Dream Theater!!!

BTW, I'll get to see them performing live for the fifth time this autumn. :))

  • i agree,.. best song and album ever...

  • just perferct!! i love this song

  • 0:00 to 9:32 - outstanding!!

  • I don't particularly care for the part where it ends.

  • When I brought this album home, I played it the whole day (24 hours), since then it burns like hell!!!

    Five fire ball stars******. Amazing!!!

  • 5:50-6:20 = sex to my ears

  • just awesome!!!

  • love this song!

  • 2:09 is sweet!

  • It's the emotion that makes DT so special :)

I dunno if I've done it justice but I made a video playing Portnoy and singin' LaBrie in Change of Seasons. Drop me a line too...

  • they are tearin this up dream theater is aswome

  • the bass should be louder

  • Absolutly great song!!!

  • shut up ,, MTF

  • the best song ever made!!!!

  • so amazing. im so pissed that 2 songs from the new album were leaked. and im even more pissed that i didnt have the will power to NOT listen =( fuck me, im going to DT hell. IM SORRY MIKE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Shame!!!!! May fleas from a thousand camels infest you arm pits!! That's like peekin at your Christmas presents early!! NO PRESENTS FOR YOU!

  • noooo soooup fo youu!!

  • Woah two songs were leaked? Thanks for the heads up. I might have accidentally clicked on a link to them.

  • Who cares? Just buy the album and everyone wins. I heard the early releases after I pre-ordered, so I guess I'm safe... :)

  • i really dont see how its that big a deal

the only way that i buy an album is if i have heard at least three songs from the album and liked them all

  • I've had the new album for a couple of weeks now, but i'm still buying it. Support the band!

  • yeap... actually my first comment, but scarter and dillon are correct. DT members think outside of the box, and the society finds this music "weird", WHEN IT IS MUSIC IN ITS TRUE FORM...

  • very true i agree 100%

  • Comment removed

  • I have never, and probably never again, heard a band gel so well together. They are phenomonal, fantastic, superhuman, and practically the greatest band right now.

  • 8:04

    i shit bricks

WOW, amazing way to wrap up a song

  • Sick intro; sounds like it would go good at an NBA game

  • SIK SNG BLEDZ!

  • man this song is amazing! but why does that guy that posted this have young jeezy on his avatar? thats disgusting

  • Why?

  • 最高!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • James did a fantastic job here

  • as usual then? =)

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL :)

  • Death, Deceit and Love are apparently 1st 2nd and 3rd.

  • LOL

  • Prog becoming mainstream would ultimately kill the whole point of it. I can guarentee that if it did, the bands / labels would sell out to conform to what the public wanted, rather than what the band WANTS to produce. Mainstream is for sell outs definately, which is such a shame.

  • I know, when I talk about DT with most people at my school, they are clueless towards whoe they are, thats how I like it - they are missing out because they are too arrogant to look past mainstream, and thats the way it should be...especialy with bands this good

  • not true. mainstream its a another word for popular. look at bands like iron maiden. they never sold out. but everyone knows iron maiden. my dream is to get mainstream with my band. but i will never do that by selling out. some popular bands just got popular by making the music they like. see my point mate?

  • you´re right

  • but what about falling into infinity?

it was DT's attempt of a radio-friendly album (thats what the record company told them) and it backfired, its one of their worst album. Progressive in general cant become mainstream because its not easy to listen to. The only reason pop is pop is because anyone can listen to it.

  • thats true. i don't really like progressive cause it boreds me. but you don't have to be a pop band to be mainstream. you can be a star on the metalheads section. but still keep your art. and never sell out. there are a lot of bands that everyone thinks they sold out just cause they changed their style. like slipknot (im guessing you don't like them cause your a progressive metal fan. not trying to offend. i believe that every genre of music can be mainstream if its good enough.

  • this is not true

look at mainstreem hip hop and rap

    its utterly shit

but if u go underground, and back in time, it was real lyrical conscious hip hop, which is sick

the real hip hop is in shadows atm

  • i agree

im not a fan of rap, but i appreciated the older stuff alot more

  • Not all true,I hate pop music but love Prog.

  • What do you mean it's not easy to listen to? The only reason you should ever say that is because society has defined certain simple patterns that almost all music tends to follow. A very select few bands like DT choose to go outside of this design and still maintain great structure and melody. It's an AMAZING compositional feat. Pop music is just easy to listen to because of what everyone is used to hearing and it lacks the certain technical and creative elements that prog music has.

  • i agree

its good to know that some people like you still exist...

  • Hey same with you, and it's good to know that at least one completely random person on the internet values my existence as well.

  • i love you man, thats the best comment i've seen in a while :d

  • you're absolutely right

  • Okay, but what if you despise most mainstream music, like myself, but can't get into DT. Where does that put me?

  • That's fine. Maybe this just isn't your style. You should still give DT a great deal of respect though. Try Rush or Yes if you want something that's progressive but a bit easier to get into.

  • And King Crimson.

  • its puts u behind DT are aswome!

  • AMEN to that!

  • I WANNA HAVE YOUR BABIES

  • This...is...so...true!!! Thank you!

  • Do you really want prog to become mainstream? I mean, think of it, ussually mainstream music is just hear as a social stuff, not because of the meaning of the music itself. It will be full of spoiled kids saying "I love DT, I love Symphony X" or stuff like that and they wont even know what they are talking about... It is good for the underground bands to sell a bit more discs, but I just don't like the idea of being that way

  • good point there

  • Well said.

  • how crazy is it tho that they sell out everywhere they go without advertising but other bands NEED to advertise just to be able to get booked at a big venue...pretty insane that they arent BIGGER than they actually are

  • john petrucci said the band could play this song in there sleep because they are so used to playing it.

    dream theater = god

  • amen to that, thats all i gotta say

  • Dream theater is not G-d. Dream Theater is a GIFT from the heavenly father to music. But they would bitch slap you if they heard you exhault them as G-d.

  • They have ppl on their Score DVD calling them a god - get over it dude, dont take it so damn personal

  • You are mistaken. Dream Theater is not a "gift" from god. It is a creation from pure will. A creation that is truly epic.

  • y'know just because you but a hyphen instead of an o doesnt mean he doesnt know what you meant lol, you know, if he did exist, which i highly doubt

  • wow i gotta say im impressed, this one and pull me under are such epic songs, i love progressive metal!

  • i dont think there is a band that can do like dream theater and play pretty much any style and do it flawless. heavy, prog, light, instrumental, solos, it doesnt hurt when a band in its history 2 of the best pianists, one of the top guitar players and drummers. its like a all-star band. except they actually get along.

  • This Album Rocks I love Belting out the Lyrics like James does! He was trained in Opera just like Geoff Tate of Queensryche!!!

  • this songs amazing! as well as being talented musicians, they make good use of repitition. other than that, DT forever!

  • i agree with u, one thing i wonder though is why this album didnt sell at least close to 7 million copies when it first came out. its a true epic

  • its because this type of music is popular, never was, it doesnt matter if the song is the most amazing song youve ever heard, if its a 9-10 minute epic its not gona be popular

  • thats unfair though progressive metal has a huge barrier that they need to break. and if ppl are gona assume a 10 minute epic is nothing interesting how in the hell will progressive metal ever make it into the mainstream?

  • i dont think it ever will, its kind of died out hasnt it? i can think of only two bands still playing stuff like this, tool and dream theater and im not even sure if tool is still around, this stuff is incedible, i get chills every time i listen to the instrumental part, but im pretty sure nothing like this will ever be mainstream

  • ur right theres no hope for prog. the problem is we need something that'll impress all around music listeners like say a new album, a cross between thrash & prog maybe

  • see the problem is that mainstream right now is flo rida, lil wayne, t-pain and various other people like that, im not saying that music is bad, i actually like a lot of it, but i highly doubt the people that like that kind of music and dont listen will be impressed, i wouldnt be surprised if most of them didnt even hear about an album like that

  • right right, i wouldnt be suprised either. and its kinda funny when u think about it. how something so legendary in the underground world is unknown in the mainstream

  • exactly, this song is a perfect example, its amazingly epic, its incredible beyond belief, yet i only know two other people who know this song, and only because i told them about it

  • lol what a shame. hmm how do get a band like dream theater to be worldwide recognized? if someone could answer that question i would pay them a million bucks.

  • haha agreed

  • 100% agreed

  • Tell everyone you know about it, that's the only way it's gonna happen.

  • that would be awsome. My two favorite genres of metal combined into an epic song.

  • wouldnt it? well i guess were gonna have to wait for some1 from this younger generation to actuallly do it. but i know deep down inside one day it'll happen.

  • There are definitely more progressive metal bands out there besides Tool and DT

Symphony X, Pain of Salvation, Spiral Architect, Opeth, Between the Buried in Me, Porcupine Tree, Three to name a few and there are probably more with record deals than I know. The underground Progressive scene is very strong and only seems to be getting stronger. DT's last album was #19 on the Billboard top 100. I think prog has some hope of becoming recognized. The music fads of today will die out someday.

  • hopefully that crap br00tal mainstream shit like bring me the horizon will die, along with the other similar bands that either love to write shitty breakdown or has an emo singer singing how much he misses a girl

  • tool did it somehow

  • did what?

  • made progressive metal somewhat popular, or more well known i guess

i mean, it seems alot of people know who tool is. they gotten awards, theyre on the radio, ect.

  • u know what that is true.

they are more well known than dream theater. they have gotten more recognition.

    i guess they're the better band...... :((((

  • just because a band is more known than another does'nt mean they're musically better

  • they watered it down

  • i love this song, im a new DT fan and ive only got two favs so far, this and panic attack

  • check out the glass prison, octavarium, anything from the six degrees of inner terbulance

  • i think GLass prison is one of the best all time songs. i always wished that song was the theme song for 13 ghosts heh

  • You might also like "This Dying Soul," "Dark Eternal Night," "Fatal Tragedy" and "Home."

  • was james labrie trained by an opera singer?

  • Yes.

  • yes

  • oh well this is a really awesome song...i'm a metalhead...my philosophy teacher made me discover this great band...probably the best prog metal band ever...

  • definately more like

  • OMG thats a cool philosophy teacher. mine's an asshole

  • so maybe for sum of u DT is not the best at CM but it`s different of any other one i`ve heard of! It`s the darkest one but not the best... if u listen 2 `*scenes of a memory*

    u know what i mean

  • Don't you have a strange sensation like ABSOLUTE HAPPINESS when that keyboard comes after the bass solo??

  • one of my personel fav songs it is so cool.

  • Many New DT songs aren't as good as the old ones, but the vocals of the new songs are slightly more understandable.

It's very hard 2 make out what James is saying in this song without the actual lyrics.

Never the less, I love Every song that DT has made ( although I'm not very fond of octavarium for some reason)

  • he is a badass period

  • Mike Portnoy is the best

  • 8:05 ownage

  • son y serán los mejores..

    alberto from barranquilla colombia

  • anybody know if any of DT's other albums sound like this? :D

  • greatest band...

  • amen

  • I've never heard of this band before !!! Awesome stuff..

  • eheheh they're the best!!! Try them and you'll never stop to listen their songs

  • OMG

  • This is my favourite song ever

  • nah, this band even making bad albums like the last one, still make great music, like their last album, if you compare a sucky dream theater album, with another band great album, dt still wins

  • despite I agree with you at the facts that even a poor album by Dream Theater it still has great music and it owns any album by another band, and that Systematic Chaos isn't at all one of their best works, I think that the bad album by Dream Theater still doesn't exist ;)

  • haha thats an excellent point

  • best DT album best prog album of all time !!!!!

when la brie didnt suck hehe

  • he doesnt suck now. i think its great how he can still sing after what happened

  • what happend?

  • he threw up so bad he damaged his vocal chords. food poisoning

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaamn that sounds horrible...

  • Fuck what you think, its amazing and i would love to see you do better, dont comment if you dont like it fag.

  • What? Lol I was referring to the singer throwing up so hard he messed up his vocal cords. This song is pretty good, haha.

  • yup

  • I totally agree with both of your sentences. :D

    They had will to play...

Eh, they don't have ideas anymore, but this album really brings back memories...damn.

  • that bass is ridiculous...

  • John Myung is ridiculous

  • dream theater is ridiculous

  • Yup. But I still love them cause of that. But only the older albums, the last ones suck ass...

  • Octavarium = lame

    Constant Motion = pretty badass

  • Kinda, yeah, but Images and Words is definitely my favorite! No bad song there, in my opinion.

  • there's no such thing as a bad dream theater song

  • Well, some of the new ones are not bad, but they're not good either...

  • oh yes there is.

glass prison is horrible. despite the fact that 6DOIT is my fav album.
