  • Thank you so much for this video!!!

  • I never knew of this till I watched the video. Nice things to ponder on.

  • Thanks!

  • how many clubs is a maximum number?

  • 2:08 ACTIVITIES******. COME ON VANDY STUDENTS. YOU'RE AT A TOP SCHOOL.

  • Sadly, I have a hard time buying into this fit thing as much. College admissions is ridiculously more numbers based than they'd like you to believe. But everything else definitely counts to some extent so don't blow them off.

  • This is wonderful advice because it carries on to what you need to include on your resume. While you may not have gone to the best college, perhaps you have valuable volunteer or work experience that the company could use.

  • im scared about this college stuff

  • @kingofkings604 Haha same :x

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!

That was the best admissions advice I've seen/heard anywhere.

  • this guys just makes so much sense...

  • Great video.

Can someone plz elaborate on the part where he says It's about who you are in this community, not you in relationship to everyone else.

  • @tycen08 I think what he means is it's about how you FIT into the picture of everyone else that they do admit, and NOT a competition between you and everyone else that applied.

  • This is some great advice. But HOW do you make your essay stand out?

Check out this blog on how to write these personal narratives. It has tons of advice, tips, resources and specific writing instruction:

No Fear College Essays (a blog on wordpress)

    Good luck!!

  • ucla

  • why should i add value? nonsense! how pointless, utterly! idiot-speak.

  • Or better yet, just go to a junior college; save a bunch of money and stress, figure out what you REALLY want to do, and improve your chances of transferring into a high quality institution after a couple years of maturing - especially if you're a person who works for a living, and doesn't have time for games (sports) and "clubs," because you live in the real world and have to work for a living.

  • @bladeimm Schools like Vanderbilt do accept students whose main out-of-school activities are family responsibilities, especially students who have to work a significant number of hours a week. These students still have to distinguish themselves academically and personally, however, just like everyone else. As for the cost, schools like Vanderbilt do their best to make schools affordable for everyone--for the lowest income students, that might be cheaper than a junior college.

  • This college seems to be a great place to go to

has a high school junior i would like to look into this has an option

great video and a very charismatic speaker :)

  • This information was very useful and informative....amazing advice. I am currently trying to apply to a top University in the country and was confused where to start, this has definitely cleared alot of confusion.

  • Who is the arch-rival mentioned at 22:12?

  • @raychuang University of Tennessee is the main rival but all other SEC schools are rivals too.

  • Very good

  • thank you so much!! this I'd my first choice school and this was so much help!!

  • I hate when these admissions people say numbers aren't everything I disagree the higher your GPA and SAT the more likely you'll get admitted.

  • @whiteipod2000 while this is true, admissions counsels hit a cap on these numbers. can you imagine how many prospective students submit 2400 SAT scores and 4.0 GPAs? they don't have enough seats for those people. you have to look deeper at who the person is beyond their intelligence. after awhile, the admissions process will cater towards people they believe will make a difference in the world and will represent their uni in a positive light, not blindly accepting another future millionaire.

  • @EdwardCullensMayo There are far fewer perfect SATs in a year than there are students admitted to top colleges in the United States. The College Board's released score distributions show that for students entering college in 2011, there were fewer than 400 perfect scores on the SAT, and fewer than 7500 scores above 2300. Obviously, a 4.0 GPA is a lot more common, but that's a very minimal factor in decisions, as I'm sure you've seen in colleges' CDS surveys.

  • Can you do one of these videos for MBA Admissions?

  • This guy is just stating the obvious.

  • Attention all middle schoolers/high school freshman/sophomores...

    This is super impportant

Make sure you follow these amazingly simple guidelines...

  • @Soreo8 and juniors.. and seniors lol

  • Great information. UT -TX

  • I have a question how about if Im applyin a little late like in mid december should i still apply or my chances are none to get accepted to any college.

  • The fall 2010 application deadline is Jan. 3.

  • Thank you so much for this video. Whoa...I am thankful for those who made this clip possible. Very much grateful!

  • Great vid. Loads of info

  • wow this makes it sound less stressful to get into college...but of course the effort has to be made

  • This was very useful.

I keep on thinking that I would be a sure acceptance to most schools, but I am always hesitant. I started college my Junior year in high school. I had a tough time in high school where my GPA wasn't very good, but my college GPA is amazing. I just feel as if I try my hardest and I am succeeding, but I will never be good enough.

  • thank you.

  • this is extremely informative. thank you.

  • this is great advice for both students AND parents...parents especially... I wish I had shown this to my mom before this whole college thing

  • this scares me

  • thanks

  • great video. Thanks a lot!

  • thanks guys! ur'e the best!

  • thanx so much this helped a lot!

  • a.m.a.z.i.n.g. im only a freshman and im already focusing on college. Thank you very much for this educational video. I'm sure this will help me in the future with the admission process.

  • Fantastic video.

When the dean was talking about the people who decide your admission, I got a bit scared..

  • Amazing video!

I really appreciate all those comments reccommending to read from start to finish and I'm glad I did.

Easily one of the most helpful videos I've seen.

  • I agree.. definitely one of the most useful youtube videos there is!

  • I want to know about people who did poorly in the past like me, but now i'm 25 and looking to transfer into a university out of the military, do I have a realistic shot at getting in?

  • You definitely do... state colleges are a shoo-in, but more prestigious public and private colleges you may need to prove your academic determination and ability.

  • thanks. I feel anxious competing for a UT business honors program spot, i have a lot to offer but don't have the 4.0 gpa. I'm hoping my leadership experience in the service will have some weight on my application.

  • This was a great video, I definitely recommend watching it from start to finish.

  • Haha I so know what he means when he said remember to change the school name in the essay :P

  • Thanks for this insightful video on admissions. I particularly appreciated the discussion on making a significant investment in the community.

  • Terrific video with so much information about applying to college and getting financial aid. Every college applicant should watch this.
