I heard a program a long time ago and the "experts" on the program said it was from way back and come from the fact that 'West Indian' people were taken as slaves, and the type of speech used in a large part of Africa meant the those people could not form the 'a's'k' sounds as it is not a natural form of the use of the Vowel 'A' with s and k following.

It talked of speech and walking that can and does take thousands of years to alter.

It took me two years to learn to pronounce the German umlaut-sounds and the Norwegian æ, ø, and å correctly and efficiently; but that's what you have to do to speak the language correctly. So, she has no excuse, not to mention English is probably the only language she knows...
