All Clooney was trying to point out was that homosexuals are discriminated against just like african american's were and that they are lacking the rights that african americans and any race for that matter now have. Where they're not the same: Gays weren't specifically enslaved by imperialists for hundreds of years. But right now can black people legally marry in any state? Only if they are straight black ppl. Now shouldn't it just be the same for everyone?

Any person who fights for equality (sexual, race or gender etc) and a right to be treated with respect is a civil rights activist.
