The orgins of Soul Train begun in the mid-1960's but its first telecast was August 17, 1970. This clip is definitely from the 70's not the 1960's. I STILL love the 1970's!!
Oh good ; i said i'm glad ; so do i .I dont know that much about Sly etc and soul athough i am a big fan of 60s & 70s rock music in general so i know much more abour rock acts.I was merely going by the album i knew most which was '68 wasnt it ?; i mean 'Stand' ?
The song, "Stand", came out in 1969. So I see where you could have thought this this clip of Sly and the Family Stone was in the 60's. Growing up, I watched nearly every episode of Soul Train until the early 80's!!! Take care.
Stand, There's A Riot Goin On, Fresh. Sometimes perfect stars burn too bright to hang around our cultural filament all that long. You have to love them while they're available to you. Koufax. Salinger. Rimbaud. What Sly did while he was able was magnificent. That's plenty for me.
Yeah, let this be a warning to you: don't do drugs kids or you might just end up making some fantastic music like this. Best not to do drugs and stick to producing the bland corporate crap or gansta shit that passes for music today.
Sly's group was a great innovator in music. Norman Whitfield (MOTOWN-Producer) takes a lot of inspiration from "Sly & The Family Stone" for his Psychedelic-Soul-Concept with MOTOWN's "Temptations" ("Cloud Nine", "Psychedelic Shack" a.o.). ooO ooO Baby Baby! These are fantastic news for me! The classical "SOUL TRAIN" comes via Internet to all the soul-fans around the world! I'm very glad about it!
well back then thats what it was about with the rock groups janice japlin, sly, greatful dead and so many more. i was born in 1960 and i saw and heard alot of this sad rip to them all
Jews didn't adopt the symbol until much later. It was initially just the menorah. The hexagram is such a basic symbol that goes way back and has been used by a variety of people. It's downright silly to think any use of the hexagram equates to Jews. Kind of like how the swastika was long used for good purposes before the Nazis adopted it.
technically you are correct. however it was a symbol endowed upon us therefore now it is culturally synonymous. the swastika was a cross pre wwii, but unfortunately hitler ruined that and it will never be looked at the same, it will always be tainted by the slaughter of 6 million jews. my family members were given tattoos and little yellow star badges.
I love this show, it always had good groups on it. Back then it use to come on every Saturday morning around 10 or 11 and everybody would make sure they woke up in time to watch it. The line dance that couples went down at the end of every show was always so funny!
No. I wonder what happened to Sly's famous gold belt buckle. lol lol I think they melted it down along with Mr. T's gold. Why do you think all those rappers are pushin' that bling around their neck. lol lol lol lol lol

Yeah, Sly was a monstrous addict at this point, it's a real shame. Even more of a shame that it destroyed such a great live act.
