I played it for about a month or two and it got really boring looking for party's and stuff. It was fun

But I think there are SOME people that play this game WAY too much and this is ALL they talk about every convorsation I have with them....

If you played this game for 2 or less hours you'd get no-where fast. It'll take you two hours simply to travel and set your party up to grind fest. This game requires no life, and thumbing me down for hurting your online pride won't change that.

I hope FFXI is overall better paced and organized.

Many of the original final fantasy rpg's were amazing. FF7 and 8 were two of my favorite rpg games ever. Yet, this whole ff online mmo concept. Failed so hard the moment they made the fail battle system. It's slow, it's not unique, and you might as well go outside and hit a stick against a tree. Since it's almost what you do throughout the entire game. I've played this game and got a couple classes to level 70. The best class had to be blue mage, by far.

Yet, it still failed hard pace-wise.

Answer: Yes, and yet, no. All FFs are player-driven RPGs. If your friends are raving that much over a player-driven RPG being the most emotionally gripping and imaginative game(s) ever, then they're wrong. That indicates that they don't really know what they're talking about. Ask them about the Metal Gear Solid series. If they respond negatively, they're contradictions.

What I mean by that is, they cannot appreciate video games in general for their emotional grip if they assault the series that provoked my academic interest. People can go ahead and have their opinions, play games they like, bash games they don't like, but they cannot rant on and on about how games tickle their literary/philosophical fancy if they reject Metal Gear Solid. Trust what I'm saying here. I've played every single Final Fantasy to date. None of them hold a candle to some other titles.

Furthermore, if your friends think that FFVII is as deep as a video game could possibly get, then that also suggests I'm wasting my time trying to philosophically analyze games. It confounds me how most game designers can just give players a strip of beef jerky and watch them call it a steak dinner. That's all I have to say about that.

I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't play the Final Fantasy series. It's not the best, but it's not bad either. The ideal gamer is one who is open-minded.

I'm assuming it's unknown to you that none of the titles are related in their storyline. Square has been "making sumfin different" for the past 30 years. And Final Fantasy isn't all they do. It's just their cash cow. Everyone knows that. Their true triumph is in the Chrono and Seiken Densetsu games.

Kingdom Hearts is a well-put-together crossover. I'll give it that. As far as a collaborative work of art that causes the gamer to take something worthwhile out of the experience though, the medal has to go to Xenogears and Chrono Cross.

It's your right to decide which games are your favorites. But you can't deny that certain games will always have more literary value than others.

In case it escaped your common sense, popularity and quality are not synonymous.

Xenogears was actually well-received for its time. It's dated, that's why you won't see it in any shop. And it's likely we'll not see another like it, as long as the marketers of the industry are content on releasing products that mock the vision of video games having worth beyond a large investment of one's time, sanity, and money. Of course, it isn't the only game that achieved more. Nor is it the best.

I don't follow current gaming news. I'm more of a historian gamer--allows me to cut through price range issues and avoid hype while appreciating a well-aged masterpiece. You won't find me browsing any chain gaming stores unless I'm looking for hardware. The newest game I've played is Resident Evil 5. And it's definitely not even close to the best game I've played.

And I told you, it's not an issue of generation or release date, it's mostly just personal opinion, experience, and price range that dictates my lack of attraction towards new games. The only new game I've ever felt myself wanting to play is Metal Gear Solid 4, and many people don't even consider that new.
