i'm not really that decent of a drummer but Joey Jordison is WAY over-rated. I think metal drumming is, technically amazing stuff but it lacks heart. I'm much more fond of a natural groove rather than a overload of blast beats.
i guess this is cool. but look at one of 311's live videos for "Applied Science"...the whole band gets involved with the drumming. incubus and 311 are both awesome
Jose's always been this good. His best playing IMO comes from the earlier albums S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Fungus Amongus, and the EP Enjoy. Not saying the other stuff isn't good, but it doesn't really have the experimentation sound their earlier works had.
These two drummers suck. If you want a drummer that has incredible speed and technical ability, and isn't a complete tool, look up Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree. Don't get me wrong I love Incubus (more of the earlier stuff) but they both suck.
@thefoosa72 Not really... I think they were Phil Collins notch in playing, BUT its nothing to brag about. They fact they did this is amazing, and not many bands do these things. All you needed in here is Mike to pull off some drumming patterns similar to that of a Morello-esque style. And I don't think they were trying to win the achievement for greatest Drum off either. Better Drummer is Phil Collins dude. Watch a live video of that man and you'll see why.
@thefoosa72 Indeed. My brother tells me i should listen to Dream Theater, but I don't know. They haven't really appealed to my taste. I will check out some Portnoy vids though. Thanks for the suggestion ^^
@strang14 What kind of music do you like? Dream Theater plays tons of different styles of music from heavy metal to very light rock. I bet if you looked you could find a song you like
@thefoosa72 haha i have a weird taste. Mainly lately its between Ambiance (GSY!BE) and Hardcore (Comeback Kid). Although I tend to stay away from the generic metal/ metal pop/ heavy rock scene, I do like a few of Dream Theaters songs. Again thanks for the reference.

Incubus is one of my all time favorite bands very talented and original but you gotta give credit where credit is due. Although you may not like Slipknot understand that its not the only thing that Joeys he has also played with Korn among other projects that he has going! Im just sayin'
ok so for the whole joey V jose thing, you can't compare them because they don't play the same music. joey plays blast/thrash/speed metal and jose plays a lot more funk. it's not the same. they are both at the top of their respective genres.

Thankyou!!! im a drummer myself and i hate when people ask me if i think joey is a good drummer and i say no not really he is just very fast, he has no rythem or groove, his style is to fit as many beats in the bar and then they complain at me and say hes the best Grrrr - i think this solo is amazing at showing dynamics in a piece and it creates a groove and shows off hidden talents of the singer and bassist -it makes me happy lol :)

That implies that drummers that can solo can't function in bands, which is completely wrong.
Drummers that don't function with bands are often those that overplay everything and ruin the sound that the band aims to create, thus many drummers that can solo play what fits.
everyone in incubus has a reason to be there... besides that, ben kenney is awesome... his solo work is awesome... check maduro, 26 and distance and comfort.... there u can see how much influence he has been to the last two incubus studio albums. incubus rock!
don't you guys get bored of the conventional metal solo? I mean the constant double bass pedalling and thrashing which every person whouploads it on youtube calls amazing. I find Jose's synchopation and mixed style just so much more satisfying, im not saying that metal drummers are boring far from it, just look at Slipknot's hes tight but there seems to be a typical competition for speed and total noise that I find dull. THIS IS AWESOME!!!
@moorerock I'm not going to lie... I love Incubus and Jose... I really do, but...to date, he really hasn't proved himself worthy of a top notch guitarist. For example, the drummer from SOAD is a great drummer or Phil Collins. Jose I think isn't pushing himself far enough to be all he can be, he's just settling for Incubus's style. He's very similar to a lot of bands that were out before him...
@moorerock i agree , i have played drums for years , i used to think metal drum solos were great to , but it is like you say just a heap of double kicking , with no structure. i seen disturbed last week and his drum solo was a bit weak , o well jose keeps it fresh
I love Ben, he's an awesom guy. If you haven't already, you people should check out his solo work. I think it was an awesome drum-off, and when Mike cones in, it sounds like "Grab your pants and GO!" XD
might be the best mainstream band....but i'd prolly give that to dave...or possibly someone else, but they don't compare to some of the bands on the jam circuit! check out the modern jam bands. jamtronica and shit, stuff's so surreal
Incubus is in simple words the BEST BAND EVER. Their music seems to not have limits, very talented group of artists. They are my number one favoritestestes band. I have only been to one show though, their shows sold out in just a few hours, wouldnt bother getting the sits far from stage, otherwise what's the point of going. the main reason is to go see them up close, live. Anywho, I cant wait to see them live once again. INCUBUS SIMPLY RULES.
i was lucky enough to be at this show and this was by far the best part. It's even cooler when your baked out of your mind. By far the best venue in Colorado or any surrounding states for that matter
Jose brings so much to the band with his drums. He's got such a distinct style. Hes not a showoffy drummer, he does what sounds best for the music. Hes out there to make beautiful music unlike some drummers who want to show off. And isn't that a drummers purpose:To make music?
There are no white guys playing in this video. The singer, brandon, is like... part mexican, part native american. The only totally white guy, so far as anybody knows, is the guitarist Mike, and well... his rhythm isn't bad at all, not that you can even see in this video :P

The bassist (Ben Kenney) hes a phenominal musician. hes got his own albums out. and there fuckin brilliant. he does the drum work, the bass, the guitar, sings, writes all the songs, and produces the albums himself! the most recent one is called Distance and Comfort. look it up!
yes he is brilliant. But, he simply can't give Incubus that extra push as a Bassist, save the better songs (Crow, SSLW etc.) and the live performances

and I personally preferred Alex Katunich over Ben Kenney. Both great, but two different styles.

don't you guys get bored of the conventional metal solo? I mean the constant double bass pedalling and thrashing which every person whouploads it on youtube calls amazing. I find Jose's synchopation and mixed style just so much more satisfying, im not saying that metal drummers are boring far from it, just look at Slipknot's hes tight but there seems to be a typical competition for speed and total noise that I find dull. THIS IS AWESOME!!!

thats why i love between the buried and me. they put so much variation in their music so the hard core metal stuff doesn't drown the song.

I don't find it boring. Besides, it's not that simple most of the time. However, I do LOVE Joses drumming, and Incubus lol.

@moorerock I'm not going to lie... I love Incubus and Jose... I really do, but...to date, he really hasn't proved himself worthy of a top notch guitarist. For example, the drummer from SOAD is a great drummer or Phil Collins. Jose I think isn't pushing himself far enough to be all he can be, he's just settling for Incubus's style. He's very similar to a lot of bands that were out before him...

@moorerock i agree , i have played drums for years , i used to think metal drum solos were great to , but it is like you say just a heap of double kicking , with no structure. i seen disturbed last week and his drum solo was a bit weak , o well jose keeps it fresh

I love Ben, he's an awesom guy. If you haven't already, you people should check out his solo work. I think it was an awesome drum-off, and when Mike cones in, it sounds like "Grab your pants and GO!" XD

might be the best mainstream band....but i'd prolly give that to dave...or possibly someone else, but they don't compare to some of the bands on the jam circuit! check out the modern jam bands. jamtronica and shit, stuff's so surreal

Incubus is in simple words the BEST BAND EVER. Their music seems to not have limits, very talented group of artists. They are my number one favoritestestes band. I have only been to one show though, their shows sold out in just a few hours, wouldnt bother getting the sits far from stage, otherwise what's the point of going. the main reason is to go see them up close, live. Anywho, I cant wait to see them live once again. INCUBUS SIMPLY RULES.

i was lucky enough to be at this show and this was by far the best part. It's even cooler when your baked out of your mind. By far the best venue in Colorado or any surrounding states for that matter

Jose brings so much to the band with his drums. He's got such a distinct style. Hes not a showoffy drummer, he does what sounds best for the music. Hes out there to make beautiful music unlike some drummers who want to show off. And isn't that a drummers purpose:To make music?

There are no white guys playing in this video. The singer, brandon, is like... part mexican, part native american. The only totally white guy, so far as anybody knows, is the guitarist Mike, and well... his rhythm isn't bad at all, not that you can even see in this video :P

Haha you're in the wrong place buddy, you don't insult Incubus in front of Incubus fans. Brandon is fucking awesome and has been playing various percussion instruments for over 10 years. Yeah, he is white, but so are most of the best drummers (Travis Barker, John Bohnham, Danny Carry...)
And I don't know what you listen to but if you think this is shit I just feel fucking bad for you man.

Firstly, thats wicked racist. I don't think that the color of their skin and their ethnic background has anything to do with their rhythm.
Secondly, Mike is a fantastic guitarist. Why don't you try playing some of their music, there are some mad talented guitar parts.
Thirdly, who are you to insult our taste in music? Incubus is one of the greatest bands ever, in fact they're my favorite. Oh & a side note, you were listening to this too, weren't you or you wouldn't know sh*t about their talent.

The bassist (Ben Kenney) hes a phenominal musician. hes got his own albums out. and there fuckin brilliant. he does the drum work, the bass, the guitar, sings, writes all the songs, and produces the albums himself! the most recent one is called Distance and Comfort. look it up!
