  • Chun-Li's artwork looks like it's from SF3 .... premonition much? or recycling much? xD

  • Ah its the arcade ubisoft ^^

  • i let a JJBA cps3 disc and security cartrdige pass me by on ebay a few months ago and i regret it like fuck! would've been nice to add to my collection

  • japans currency is awesome you feel rich even though you really only have about 20 bucks

  • i really want more retro hardware videos i love these videos soooooo much and i learn about old systems i hadnt heard of b4 some i have heard of b4 and owned and some i still own

  • he said plage

  • AHHH the 80s good times.....

  • i would have loved red earth

  • can you review the sega genesis

  • Could you do the Colecovision or Intellivision?

  • Great video content. I wish for more!

  • 1:22 Honda's worst matchup from hell

  • Excellent video with incredibly detailed information. Thank you so much for covering the CPS-III! :)

  • Wow talk about covering the insanely underground world of gaming.. Never knew about this.. good stuff.

  • currently 666 likes, 6 dislikes

  • Gotta call BS at 3:12. I got two USA 3S carts fixed by Capcom JAPAN 5 years ago. Toru Kusano was the person I contacted through email. $120 per cart(ouch) wire transfer ONLY. I was running an arcade at the time btw, that may have been key in them cooperating. But for the longest time I keep hearing people say the same thing about "you gotta have a JP/ASIA cart" or "you have to know someone in Japan." Not true

  • Thanks for another great episode, Will!

  • Where can I get the music for this episode?

  • Do the Sega Naomi and Naomi 2 hardware.

  • THIRD STRIKE FO LYFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • You should do the commodore 64 as your next system!!!

  • I've been an arcade hardware enthusiast for around 10 years, and this is one of the best introductions to CPS3 I've seen. Nice work!

  • Please make these more often :)

  • he IS smiling

  • SUPPORT ALL TGS VIDS!!

  • the ko glitch was on makoto.

  • young**********

  • SEGA GENISIS WHATS UP WITH THAT I PLAYED ONE WHEN I WAS REALLY YUP EVEN THOUGH IM 22 i think i was 6 at thte time SHARE SOME MORE KNOWLEDGE MUCH love from east coast of cananda WICKED SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sad that the CPSIII became it's own undoing with the battery life of the security cards, It would have been quite interesting to see MVC work on the CPSIII, not to mention Red Earth should have had an update/sequel so that we could play as all the characters in a tradicional Fighting game, still heres to the Red Earth cast, may you one day appear again!

  • What's the chip music at the end?

  • How did CPS1 hardware get hacked to create those custom moves? Was it a physical hardware chip that was placed inline with the data cartridge or re-soldered chips on the board?

Also, can't the battery just be replaced?

  • @liamvg once the battery dies the encryption data deletes itself and renders the cart useless... Putting a fresh battery in won't bring back the data that is gone.

  • 3:53 looks like the old WOW map ? ^^

  • it was makoto not ibuki for the glitch with ken

  • 2:50 So this is how arcade system BSOD looks like. :b

  • Great video and highly knowledgeable about arcade hardware but you still mispronounced Ryu and called him Rye-oo. Being a hardcore fan like you seem to be, just go full speed instead of sounding like a casual fighting game player who doesn't know or care.

  • @ryuhayabusa13 spoken like someone who wasnt actually around back in the day

  • @polarity55 No offense intended. I am aware people didn't know how to pronounce the name back then. I don't care whether people decide to call ryu and say Ryan, raul or jorge, or say Sho Rye-oo ken for rising dragon punch or whaterer. lol :)

  • I like how you completely neglected to mention that 3rd Strike was a hack job. New Generation and 2nd Impact had way better music and stages.

  • more

  • Asia Japan and Europe versions. how fun.

  • YES he pronounced manga right :D

  • Thanks for the video. It really is a shame that CPS3 never caught on, I love Street Fighter III. Though, I never got a chance to try Red Earth and JoJo's, so here's hoping that they get re-released somewhere down the road.

  • @spamanator666 yes it has a standard JAMMA connection, and you will need a kick harness for the extra buttons (6 total per player)

  • @neoboo297 THAT explains what happened to my precious precious silver version.

  • CPS2 was the best.

  • Insert Coin here pls

  • Great video man, really good

  • So if I manage to get a hold of one of these it could be put into a standard Jamma cabinet pretty easily? It has a Jamma edge connector doesn't it? I've got some old Jamma cabs in the garage, I might have just found my next project, Ebay here I come!

  • @spamanator666 yes, though unless you already have a CPS2 cabinet, not sure why you wouldnt want to go for that instead of CPS3 where you have essentially 3 game choices, including 3 variations of SF3 which you can all get on other consoles

  • @bensons999 I believe certain Asian countries are still upset at Japan over WW2 so they censor Japanese language. So instead of Ryu saying "Hadouken" when he throws a fireball, you just here a "Ha" in the Asia version.

  • @72FilmProductions

    Wow, thanks!

  • awesome this is so interesting! i always wante dto know what goes on behind the scenes

  • Another excellent video, thanks!

How and why were Ryu's and Ibuki's sounds censored? I've never heard about that before.

I'm pretty sure that you will know all about this, but for anyone who doesn't, there's information on the latest CPS3 hacking, CPS2/3 encryption and lots more stuff too on the site of (I believe) the guy who invented the CPS2 Phoenix "fix"

    cps2shock.emu-france.info/

  • @bensons999

Damn... When will I learn to wait 'till the end of the video before posting!!?

    (Probably never)

  • Shoutouts to JJBA. #poverty

  • Or i could use an emulator to play this game on PC...

  • Love this series! XD

  • man i feel old??

  • Need moar of these episodes!!

  • lol a security system with battery. The battery dies, you lose the cartridge. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??

  • @ederondotcom

They just wanted to try and stop piracy, they used batteries in the previous CPS2 boards too. If you owned an arcade, you just needed to change the batteries once every five years or so.

  • he looks like freddiew

  • you should get (or build) a new battery (preferably lithium), hook up laboratory PSU with proper voltage setting to the cartridge with the old battery, then remove old battery and put in the new one and finally remove the lab psu. repeat step every 5 years and it will never die.:)

  • @silencioseu There actually is a way to replace the battery, but it's a little tricky, you need to solder on a "helper" battery and then disconnect the old battery. Basically constant voltage needs to go to the cartridge. The minute a connection is lost, the data is lost as well.

  • ad: ripped asian

video: nerd but admittidly awesome asian

  • PS1? :)

  • Oh yea, I remember times like this, when Megaman existed and Capcom wasn't evil.

  • N64

  • so they decided to open up a ps3? nice

  • I saw CPS3 and knew Jojo's would be mentioned. <3. Thanks for the info, I had no idea there was a third CPS3 game, I thought it was just mainly SF3 and Jojo's.

  • 5000 yen = $66

  • JUST DO THE PiPPIN

  • Hey TGS,

  • Love this show! :D

  • I always watch these videos

  • Nice video. I love 3'rd strike. Those were the days...

    Screw sf4...

  • <3

  • Love the series. Now even more since you talk not quite so super-fast anymore!

    Great work!!!

  • i was so looking forward to this :D

  • Once again, I love this series! keep up the good work!

  • Brilliant!

  • We need more arcades in america... I would love to spend my money in an arcade. and lose hours of my life standing there. and no thats not sarcasm, I really would love to do that.

  • That pot at 1:57 is on its way out!!

  • mum whats an arcade.

don't worry about it son, you've got your "PS3, Xbox 360, custom built gaming computer, iphones wiis, psps, psvitas, 70" tv in your room, 32" monitor and lots of money. oh ok but can i get one for christmas

  • @DuelingMaster1

Why wouldn't you use that 70in as your monitor? Imagine the pixels spent on boobage.

  • @DuelingMaster1 u know i laught at first but then i realized i got all that and i do wish i had an arcade but unfortunately i dont have money for an arcade their to expansif

  • @DuelingMaster1 you forgot 3DS

  • @DuelingMaster1 Been there and done that. It doesn't matter what its on or how it looks.(there are some, but few games where graphics matter. ex:bf3 is helped by better graphics because it is somewhat of a military sim. dont quote me on that.) If it looks like a neat game id want to play it. it helps if the graphics are decent for the era but they're not everything. so many stupid people think that they are.

  • @xXFr0sty67Xx I don't see why you posted this post. DeulingMaster wasn't talking about that.

  • @DuelingMaster1 YOu forgot his 3DS

  • The funny thing is, you could probably run an emulator with all of the arcade games on half of those which you listed - especially a PC (which most modern arcade machines are based upon nowadays)

  • What would happen if you just changed the battery in the cartridge

  • @sashant1018 I'm guessing that this was before usb style flash memory existed so once the battery died, all the data on the catrige was probably erased and simply putting in a new battery wouldn't do anything.

Before flash memory, if you wanted to keep non-read-only-memory you either wrote it to a magnetic medium, or kept a current going through the card which kept the data stored. Without the current the saved data just vanishes

old gameboy games have batteries to keep save files

  • @WoWrowrin I'm glad for every person asking "why don't you just change the battery" there is a person explaining what happens. I always told Will the retro hardware audience is smarter than the average youtube audience.

  • @sashant1018 Obviously it's not a standard battery you can just buy at any thrift store.

  • @sashant1018

well, to replace it youd need to remove it. causing the same problems

  • @sashant1018 Temporary memory. It's like the RAM in your computer, no power, no memory. You take out the battery, the key is lost and putting in a new battery means nothing. That's why you'd have to send in the cartidge, so that capcom can put in a new battery and add a new key to it, then send it back. Now if you had the hardware to give the cartridge a new key then there would be no problem but that is special hardware owned by capcom, so no chance.

  • @sashant1018 the key still lost

the battery is just there for keep the key alive.

the cartege dont Generate the key.

  • @sashant1018 It wouldn't work, once the power was lost, the key was lost, replacing the battery would not restore said key.

  • @sashant1018 In case you weren't paying attention, like the 16 others who upped your comment. The data is volatile, IE. When the cart loses power, the data is lost.

  • @sashant1018 It commits suicide :(

  • @sashant1018 In a similar fashion to some Gameboy games, like Pokemon Gold and Silver, if the battery dies, it takes the data with it.

  • @Neoboo297 i took my cartridge apart and replaced the battery ^^

  • @Neoboo297 :'( my legend of zelda minish cap cartrige died in this way

  • @MrBobbyz94 Yeah, but it's not completely dead... If a battery dies in a GBA cart the game will still run, you just can't save....

If a CPS3 battery dies then the shit just won't work at all....

  • @MrBobbyz94 But its battery is replaceable!

  • @sashant1018

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure you kill the data when you remove the power while changing batteries.

  • @sashant1018

Sorry for my redundent answer, I didn't realize that probalby a bizzilion people allready corrected you before I posted, I'm kinda stupid that way sometimes.

  • @sashant1018 Then it would forget the code because it wouldn't have a way of saving the memory. Video games used to suck.

  • @sashant1018 Its not that simple :o if it was, the problem wouldn't exist

  • @sashant1018 the moment you detach the battery the saved data goes the river

  • @robbsen1981 some1 might of thought a way of charging it without detatching the battery wouldnt it?

  • @sashant1018 it most likly was a custom battery, dont think it was a regular aaa battery :)

  • @sashant1018 the reason it had battery was cos it stored data on flash that went blank if no electricity was provided. if u put a new battery ull have a fully functioning blank cartridge.

  • @sashant1018

    The world will implode.

  • @sashant1018 it would be the end of the world as we know it... time and space would stop existing

  • The answer is 42

  • @sashant1018 Look at the size of the battery, it's very unique, not something you're going to pick up at Walmart.

  • @sashant1018 from what he said it sounds like the encryption key is kept in some for of ram so when the battery dies the ram is cleared

  • Thats true

  • @sashant1018

You have quite a long period of time to change the battery in.

  • FREDDY!!! WONG!!!!

  • Love this show!

  • i bet Layne made him callhim "talented" towards the end lolol
