He doesn't have the charisma or personality or style. Being a good musician and guitar player is not only about having good technique, you must have that 'thing', that satch and others like vai have. That's why they have such a big following.
Kurt wasn't murdered as much as you'd like to think...He commited suicide. The man's muse was sucide. Wrote about it all the time in his journals and songs. He was a clearly depressed and tortured soul..RIP Kurt Cobain.
good song but hes not as amazing as steve vai or yngwie malmsteen. satriani couldnt hold up against them at g3 in denver at all, vai and malmsteen totally outclass him.
I think satriani's got a bigger brain than steve vai, a lot of times guitarists end up selling style for speed and over the top stuff, which is really a blower for songs with no words in them
too right ..... musician is what he is and not just a guitarist ..... still have a great respect for the guy still now after 20 years of being a fan ........
Well, i think you guys need to realize something. Joe Satriani is different in that he is less of pure shredding mad skill, like say Yngwie Malmsteen, but is more at it from the musical point. His music is more enjoyable to just sit and listen to, where some other guitarists music is much more technical and is more of an impressive thing. Sure, he could write better and way more complex music than even something like Midnight, but he doesn't, cause he's a musician, not just a guitarist.
Never dis cobain!!!You fuckin noob!!!And he didnt just die he was murdered he was a great singer and guitarist and FYI they both had the same styles so what? But Cobain wasnt all plaid any fan would realize that.
that argument is completely retarded.. how can you even compare satriani to britney??? dude... britney can no where even meet up to the standars that satriani sets.. he's way up there and she's a pile of crap... so why waste your time arguing??
this a fuckin stupid argument... satriani has nowhere near the main stream exposure of britney spears...
and the only reason she has better sales is because every 12 year old girl has a copy of her CD... there are alot less musicians and people who genuinly like music then there are 12 year old girls.
have any of you guys SEEN the shredding on some of britney's work done by her guitarist !??! ffs, just think that cos she's successful she can't make ownage music..lol
Satriani is the greatest guitar player ever, Vai is really damn good (I'd say #2 definitely) but can't live up to his teacher's skills. And, someone tell me why Jimi is the "best"? He in theory and technicality blows balls...in the fact that he was improv I'd give him a C+ for effort...I just hate how Jimi is said to be the best, when clearly Joe pwns him.
Techniques? Like what? I won't deny that part of modern guitar has been influenced by him but to say that he invented modern guitar techniques is going too far. Name some of them.
Guys, people often say that Jimi Hendrix was the best because of the time, he was doing something similar to Vai and Satriani with the exception that it all happened more than 20 years ago (at the time in the 90s when vai and satch were playing) and almost 40 years ago in 2007.
When you listen to Jimi you can say hey I've listened to better music but have in mind, like I said, that it happened in a time when people weren't used to it, virtuoso playing with distortion and wacky pedal effects, powerful chord arrangements and extreme solos, nowadays we are pretty much used to it. He inspired tons of guitarists around the world, including our modern gods like Satriani, Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen and even his late pal Frank Zappa.
The chord arrangements he used were mostly derived from blues guitarists before him. The wah-wah pedal was used as early as 1945, but Hendrix used it more and by doing so popularized the pedal in music. Distortion too was used before him, and the 60's bands that used them did it by poking holes in their amp speakers. Soloing again has its roots in jazz and blues music. It would be more accurate to say that Hendrix popularized these elements in rock music.
Don't try to put him down by tracing back his influences and roots. I'm not the one saying this, I've seen countless interviews where our modern guitar gods praise Hendrix for all he did. It's not about if he was the first one to use pedals or distortion, it's the way he took all that and composed music. On top of that he did all that before he reached 30 yrs old in the 60s. You have to give him "some" credit.
We are giving him some credit, we are simply telling you to GTFO and stop whining in our perfectly not Hendrix related guitar video. Sorry but putting this blatantly might just work better, We like Hendrix. We admit he's good. We don't care though and we don't think he was the best.
then again to be fair this one wasn't started by a Hendrix fan (rare as that may be) so I guess that can go for both sides. (JUST DON'T START BEST GUITAR PLAYER FLAME WARS)
The only bad thing I could say about Hendrix is that drugs played a big part in his life and compositions. And it is well known that drugs can make you more "creative" or think "outside the box".
I'm not trying to put him down. He is on my list of favorite musicians as a matter of fact. I was just responding to PaintSkate07's claim that Hendrix invented the techniques that Satriani uses in this video. Hendrix was instrumental in changing the course of music. He didn't really invent anything, but what was important was that he took different elements and combined them to give him a new distinct sound.
ha, ha. Especially when Jimi wasn't physically capable of playing most of those techniques. Please Jimi fans, he was great at putting feeling into his playing, he was an amazing song writer, and he was a good singer. But he wasn't all that good in terms of technical ability. And he innovated music to an extent but certainly didn't have much of an effect on metal and CERTAINLY didn't invent any shredding techniques.
Who in the world said shredding is music ? Try to compose a classical piece, something with meaning, shredding is just for competitions, you can shred all you want but that just bores people, "OMG LOOK AT ME I CAN PLAY 20 NOTES PER SECOND I'M GOD" yeah shut the fuck up and show me a real musician.
?????????????????, you have strange definitions of the word "shredding" and you DELIBERATELY just started up another flame was that is stupidly common here sooo.... I'm going to ignore you...
Oh look I'm here crying while typing this because you ignored me, I'm not trying to start a flame war, perhaps you perceive it like that because you can't argue with someone else. I'm just stating what I've seen over the years. I'm not sure what "shredding techniques" were you referring to, but from what I know a shredder or shredding is about playing as fast as you can, it's all about technical ability (99% without feeling) , and that's not what Satch, Vai and Hendrix are about.
you're arguing method is just like everyone elses online, it is circular arguing that works only with the base assumption that you are right. I have no interest in arguing
I'm not saying I'm right, it's what I see, are shredders really making music ? or going up and down the fretboard as fast as they can ? Am I the only one who thinks the same way ? what about records sales, 99% of skilled shredders only sell a couple thousand records nowadays.
Um... Britney Spears has probably sold more records by now than Joe Satriani so I don't really see that argument works. Either way I was referring to the concept of shredding, not the style. Joe Satriani shreds, its just the fact of it, he does a lot of stuff other than shredding which is good and improves his playing a lot over if he just did shredding. I never tried to compare shredding and Joe Satriani's music.
Yes she has sold more than satriani but satriani sold a heck of a lot more than just a couple thousand records (millions). Even vai is a grammy winner and keeps selling records today. And Yes satch shreds just like vai but they know where to use it, that's what's normally known as good composition.
There a LOT of good shredders who are not successful because they can't really compose music, it's all one single emotion throughout the whole song, now compare that with something like "always with me always with you" and you'll get what we mean.
yay, you're arguing rationally (and non-aggressively) again. And to clarify, I do like shredding and I like Joe Satriani as well. I never once tried to say that shredding was better than this. All I said was that Jimi Hendrix had nothing to do with the shredding techniques used in many Joe Satriani songs (such as sweep picking and tappping)
It seems 80% of non pro guitarists today all they care is about playing fast. Then they try to make a record failing to produce real music and wonder why they didn't sell many records, no one listens to that crap only guitar players who are into shred.
It also seems that most mainstream music such as Blink-182, the Killers, Sum 41, etc. are failing to put forth anything new in their music, while more adept guitarists such as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are trying to create new and innovative music.
Look like Kurt Cobain? This song was released in the early 90s, plaid was the in thing. Love Satch, only instrumental rock musician i listen to frequently.
