I didn't realize it when this movie came out, but this is a remake of a Danish movie also called Brothers, but you know, in Danish. LOL. I actually saw the Danish movie first and then our American version. The Danish one is WAY better. I liked the acting better, especially by Nikolaj Lie Kaas in the Jake Gyllenhaal park. Nikolaj is amazing. This one really hits you over the head with things that where way more subtle, but just as evident, in the Danish version making this one pretty cheesy

We watched both movies in class, and we all agreed that the Danish version was much better, and deserves more people to watch it, as Susanne Bier really deserves the credit. she also helped make the american version, but a remake is not the same.

I don't think Natalie's character skipped a beat in moving on! Grief is a multi-step, mysterious cycle, but the brevity of her grieving seems...not right. I hope that from this film no one adopts the warped viewpoint that all soldiers return home with mental instability, though I'm sure many do. How couldn't they, with the trauma of war, the impact of which I don't have the experience to speak of?

My heart goes out to those soldiers who return home to an unfaithful spouse!

I know the Danish writer/director who made the original dansih version, and helped make this version too, and she's trying to show you how war never ends, not untill the day you die - mentally or physcally. plus it's show's what the family has to go through when the soldier is away. if you only saw the drama and scenes dealing with their relationship, then you didn't watch this movie.
