@ballernerd14 its in son clave which is 3/2 i believe how i play this lick is the KICK it is a 4 beat pattern 6 notes....1 2+a 3 4+ and the hands are played on the a of 1, a of 2, and a of 3 using triplets between hi-hat and snare, starting on your hi-hat.....so that's counted out 1EA, 2EA, 3EA, 4. So your accents on your snare will be on a's of one two and three. Hope this isn't confusing, and hope it helps. It is a great I just learned it tonight lol.
This a nice lick, but I find that sometimes the best drummers aren't exactly the best teachers. If you want a better explanation of a very similar lick, search "Mike Johnston songo". It's essentially the same lick, maybe missing some of the ghose notes, but very comparable.
Keep Practicing!! and when your done with that........keep practicing again until you get it right (and get this book by Pat Patrillo, very cool book)
The ghost notes are from single paradiddle variation in triplets: RllrlrrL RllRLrrl / RllrlrrL RllRLrrl ... the big letters are the accents... after you grasp this, you can omit the ghost notes of the right hand and replace some of them with the bass drum so that the right plays the quarts only... soon you'll get to it... good luck and have fun!
Snare sounds way killer brah!!!...

Ok, he has some chops. Can he play Latin Jazz, I don't think so. Merengue? No this clown is over-rated....speed yes, finesse no.
cds175 9 months ago
@cds175 actually he can....iv had 1 on 1 playing with em...
echsdrumline 7 months ago
@cds175 so one must play latin jazz to have finesse? gospel drumming's variations take areas from many diff genres of drumming.

@jjbb12Drummer its a basic drag roll when he speeds up, and when he slows down he uses triplets as ghost notes
