  • It looks breathtaking and peaceful up there..its so sad we have so many corrupt men on this amazing planet.

  • Mankind (From WWE) theme song! lol ( old theme )

  • If all it took was money to cure cancer, it would have been cured already. Advances in medical technology need to be made. There's a lot of other govt waste.

  • Most of us couldn't pass the physical, and complete the training to do this. Francis Gary Powers had his U2 brought down by a SAM missile in Russia, that's true. But what brought him down, was the shock wave from a SAM that hit a Russian MIG that was in pursuit of Powers. Acc. to the book Skunk Works the Russians shot 14 Sams at him, and he was being chased by a MIG. One Sam hit the MIG, and the shockwave knocked the tail off of Powers' U2. Otherwise, it flew too high for the Russians 2 get

  • @micflor531313 Didn't know that! How interesting. Thanks.

  • it saddens me only a few individuals get to experience this.. if money, the biggest cancer on the planet, vanished, we would all get a chance to have this amazing experience.

  • my dream...i'm not gonna lie, i shed a tear.

  • i couldn't watch without a teardrop at 6:18... an amazing world.. and still people are killing each other!

  • Never new James May from Top Gear went in to outer space

  • food in a tube???? NICEE!!!

  • I hate the breathing sound

  • Credit goes to Kelly Johnson, first team leader of Lockheed's "Skunk Works." He was unequaled as an aircraft engineer and innovator. He played a leading role in the design of over forty aircraft, including the U-2 in 1954, which was developed to monitor the Soviet ICBM threat. U-2S/ER-2 Dragon Lady (1998) are re-designations for the TR-1A. U-2A through R, CT, RT, EPX, WU-2, TR-1A and B, ER-2, U-2S, and TU-2S (aircraft depicted) The U-2S remains the highest flying, single engine airplane...

  • "I knew this would happen, I need to scratch my face."

  • this video and the music almost makes me wanna cry... it just boggles my mind just how much we men have achieved.

  • Where are all the Black Ops comments?

  • "take me out, to the black, hell am I'aint coming back..." -Firefly theme song-

All is kidding aside, knowing or seeing that mankind can go to space ( where space travel commun place) is something that I would like to see at the end of my lifetime. But "it takes a world to make a world" and we still have unresolved global issues at hand. so my advice: until that day comes; let's not screw ourselves up people...

    Peace!!

    XD

  • Man this is amazing -Mayhem

  • looking at these comments i realize that only americans are so stupid to talk about complete total bs on such an amazing video. Thank you for sharing.

  • This is what planes should be made for

  • Brilliant, indeed! Thanks for sharing!

  • Nice, taking us where we have never gone before

  • Didnt the Russians shut down one of these with a Rpg7 back in the 50s?

  • @jasonthemankiller Hah... not an RPG7, an SA-2 in 1960. An SA-2 is a massive Surface to Air Missile about the length of telephone pole that was almost purpose built for shooting down high flying aircraft like the U-2..

Nothing shoulder launched will get remotely close to a cruising U-2.

  • @bryUK and that is why i hate black ops :/

  • @jasonthemankiller Well, yes they did shoot one down in the 60's piloted by Gary Powers who became a POW, later echanged for a Russian spy, just one comment though, an RPG stands for Rocket propelled grenade which is used for light armor, at the time the Russians used a surface to air missile unknown to the americans to have such range.

  • @EnriqueGreenwell

It was a joke for Gods sake cant you see the humor in it ?shooting down a U2 with a RPG7 you didnt find that funny well i did .

  • @jasonthemankiller With the amount of people that visit this page who think Call of Duty is a realistic take on warfare, there are no shortage of folks who seem to think such a thing is actually possible. It becomes difficult to tell who is telling a poor joke and who is being sincerely ignorant.

  • @jasonthemankiller - Seven U-2s have ever been shot down: one over the Soviet Union (Francis Gary Powers), five over China, and one over Cuba (Rudolf Anderson),during the Cuban missile crisis. The Republic of China (Taiwan) was the only other operator. Three pilots were killed, and two captured. Not quite sure what missiles the Chinese used..

  • how can anyone dislike this

  • Piolet sounds like a robot.

  • I'll never be able to travel space :(

  • captain slow

  • so lucky james, i should also do a program of motors ,maybe they would take me to a trip like this

  • is there a reverse straw for going to the bathroom?

  • That would be too awesome to do.

  • as possible people who do not appreciate our planet ... take care of the most beautiful we have

  • Pilot sounds like a marine from starcraft

  • @LOLOMGZZZZZ Mabey thats the voice acter

  • @LOLOMGZZZZZ more like ghost from sc1, never know what hit em !

  • 70,000ft-21километр)))

  • You have to feel like a badass to pilot a U-2.

  • Does it take forever to get up there or does the U2 have an insane climb rate?

  • This guy better be careful on this flight, he might just have to say something good about an American made product by the time he's done...anybody who's seen Top Gear knows he's pretty much incapable of it.

  • Do you know Thom Engle?

  • SSSHHHH!

  • correct me if i´m wrong, only the SR-71 can go higher. nice video btw

  • @serongue If I am not mistaken that is correct, although some of the X-planes have flown very high, the X-15 in particular holds a few flight records for any winged aircraft till today.

  • @trespire @serongue Its a bit more complicated than that. As far as records go, everything is split into different classes. The SR-71 holds the record for sustained altitude by an air-breathing engine.

Others have been higher, but being powered by rockets (X-15) or zoom climbing (MiG-25, getting to top speed, then pulling up and climbing until the engines flame out and it stalls), these achievements are classed differently.

  • 0:30 Epic Face

  • When I somedays will be rich, I also go there...

  • Янки, чё-за фильм снимаете?

  • Lucky man i can only dream to be able to go were he went

  • holy shit that would be cool

  • Flying Glider?

  • Spectacular video! One correction, though. When crossing 50K feet Brian said that in the '50s they would have been astronauts. Not quite. The "edge of space" back then was defined as 50 miles, not 50,000 feet (which is not quite 10 miles). Today it's around 62K feet (100 KM). The only airplane to have crossed 50 miles is the X-15.

  • @hagerty1952 Oops, I meant 62 miles, not feet for the current "edge of space" definition.

  • 45 people dont like liquidised peaches.

  • Totally jealous.

  • ive always wanted to skydive from the edge of the atmosphere like this, but i have to wait a couple more years. this video is enough for me to become a pilot for nasa

  • je ne parle pas anglais, mais je suis fan de lui et j'aimerai vraiment avoir ça chance, bruno.caron18@wanadoo.fr

  • Landing wheels WTF?! does it tip over when comming to a halt or what?

  • @Ashtree81 Actually, yes, it does. It has titanium skids on the wingtips for that very purpose.

  • @bryUK

Oh, to save wheight I suppose?

  • @bryUK I thought they were small wheels, but no matter. The pilot of a U2 has to continue flying the airplane after touchdown to keep it level since the wingtip skid/wheels cannot take much load.

  • @Ashtree81 It is merely a powered glider although a bit more exotic than the ones I have flown. The take off angle is the same as a winched glider start and passengers usually react the same way as May

  • how mutch does that cost to ride

    =D want to do that

  • Damn these onion cookies that I'm eating!

  • U2 you great beauty. Unbelievable view.

  • I bet I could get one of my flight schools 172's up there, what do you think?

  • @jtkent28 i guess u cant try ;P

  • @TrizNation It was a question you idiot you breathe in a mic you ?

  • this is awesome, its so true viewing earth from above make you appreciate it so much more, it should be required by all global politicians

  • I'd love to say one day to my girl..."Honey, would you like to have some lunch 70,000 feet in the air?"

  • the world is so freakin beautiful... why cant the people on earth be just as beautiful..

  • It's just breath taking..! Thanks for sharing.

  • Capitain Slow in a plane in space , Epic Nonsense ! ♥

  • why do the pilots are always making a noise like "shhhhh" it's getting on my fucking nerves

  • @seb92ify Um.. that would be them breathing..

  • @seb92ify breathing you idiot. are you serious?

  • @seb92ify the pilot isnt making that noise. Learn about high altitude flying before making such comments.

  • Pilot wishes he would stfu...

  • When I went across the Atlantic in a 747 this summer at 42,000 feet, I found myself looking out of the windows to see if it looked anything like this :) You actually can see the sky a lot darker and bluer even on a regular airliner - try it :)

  • I just gave a rental check out to a U2 driver the other day. Lucky bastard.... What a view!

  • Comment removed

  • I'd get on that plane even if I knew it had no landing gear.

  • I wonder if James May appreciates however lucky he is to experience this? People like myself could only dream to do this :(

  • who the heck are these 43 people

  • If the outriggers falls off when they take off, what happens to the wing when they land?

  • @kinsley2108 The wings have to rub against the ground when they land. They have a car chase after them on the run way to spot for them because it is very hard to land it.

  • @kinsley2108 I've heard they flap twice then fold up like an albatross at the moment it roles to a stand still. :-\

  • Would they be able to get into space with this?

  • @HaloHamstur no

  • that altitude isn't very forgiving

  • spy plane inbound

  • wow...talk about cool.........

  • Bonjour,

C'est vraiment un super beau vol et notre planète est toujours aussi belle, merci pour cette vidéo.

  • Всички ваши мечти Ще се сбъднат и без капути като хитлер или наполеон, ЗДЕСЪ НЕБО СЛАВЯН

  • Bucket list just got longer!

  • wow that was sooooooo cool,,,thanks,,!!

  • 06:18 WOW

  • Wow what a trip J May had. Amazed the chase cars used are Aussie built Holden Commodores/Monaro's but god knows what the yanks call them.

  • love it thanks for uploading

  • I'd love to have some clam chowder in an metallic bendable juicebox....oh and not forgetting that there over 60,000 ft..

  • And we are destroying that beauty down here with all our pollution.

  • this is amazing! its crazy to think a plane can still fly up there I guess thats what that crazy wingspan is for. I wonder if they get any close encounters on occasion?

  • "They are there to assist the pilot, especially on landing. Landing a U-2 is a very difficult and delicate operation, having to land nose-wheel first." in this landing, he did not land nose-wheel first. 8:08

  • i would cry if id get a chance to see that

  • heady

  • neat i accidentally found James May on youtube. I'm pleased

  • These poor guys must be freezing their balls off.

  • awesome vid, nice words at the end of captain slow ;p

  • If there is one thing I want to do before I die its this

  • May, may have the best gig in the world..

  • to eat "space peaches" :)

  • This is incredible.

  • wow, the things i would do to get a trip up there

  • what is the airspeed at those altitudes?

  • @bguzman003

    dunno, but groundspeed is AWESOME

  • @bguzman003 good question. it seems to be rather slow. By the time it is up there it might have burned a lot of fuel so it is lighter. The idea seems to be to maximize lift/weight and minimize drag. Not to go super sonic as with the SR-71.

  • @bguzman003 You can see the two important (in aviation) measures of speeds at 05:27

Indicated Air Speed is 104 kts, Mach 0.707 ie, 70.07% the speed of sound.

  • @bryUK Wouldn't it be 70.7%, instead of 70.07?

  • @DerPilotMann Correct, I misplaced a zero.

  • @bguzman003 the air is not very dense that high so the airspeed readings would be somewhat inaccurate.. they may in fact be traveling 500 knots (example) but the airspeed would only register 80ish (example) Seeing how they got off the ground in 1000 feet I and the design of the wings I assume the plane can fly very slow and loiter for a very long time...

  • breathtaking ,,,

  • Her engine sounds so beautiful...

  • Absolutely amazing!.. Such a lucky man to experience what only a handful of pilots do on a daily basis..

  • this was uploaded on my birthday :D:D

  • "technically speaking"... that would be 13 miles above the earth... oh..... big deal...really high up...wow...so high up......that's nearly 14 miles above the surface I'm feeling so emotional...

  • @favoriteblueshirt Let me know when you get a plane that come close to that.

  • What happens when they have an itch?

  • this is awesome.

  • If the passenger took a hit of acid before this flight he would probably cum in his pants...

  • i would like to fly in one of those!!!!! :)

  • AWESOME PLANE AT SPACE FROM THE 50s

  • @bryUK I thought pilots arent allowed to wear glasses

  • If every politician took such an inspiring ride, maybe the world would be a better place.

  • @Rhal95 - Politicians are too thick skinned to take any thing positive out of this experience. Those who can feel this will never become good politicians.

  • This is the american tech at its finest

  • That's American engineering at its 1950's finest.. lol

  • An experience like this cannot be matched by any other on the surface of earth

  • This is beautiful..

  • My god, this music is incredibly beautiful, as everything I've heard of Ty Unwin. Why is there still no CD of his work out there? I've been waiting for one for ages now!

  • how much this kind of personal flight can cost?

  • BLACK BIRD

  • Oh god our planet is beautiful.

And we are fuckin destroying it with environment and wars

    Sad

  • OMG... awesome...

  • Wow! Amazing! Thanks fa makin` this! I wonder how does it feel like?

  • i just saw this video and sad something like this i am going to do later

  • iv watched it like 4 times :)

  • Is the English guy from top gear? he sounds alike

  • @nolifegeeks Yes, he is... and from the Wine series too... funny guy!

  • how can someone dislike this? i dont get it....that view is amazing.

  • Wheres the sun?

  • I don't mean to kill your dreams, but your only the 3rd highest thing. The SR-71 fly at a ceiling of 100,000 feet.

  • wonderful

  • I await the day with GREAT eagerness on which space travel will be as common as taking a single-engine Cessna and taking it for a ride.

  • What I would give...

  • I think it's amazing, that it's even possible to keep control of an AIRcraft at this altitude, where there is that less atmosphere! unbelievable ... wow...

  • This video never gets old...
