Beautiful place and music!!! Thank you. I just have this good vibe with Thailand even though I haven't been there yet. Plan to live there in the future!!!
Nong Khai is one of my favourite places in Thailand. I have lived in Thailand several years before moving to Laos, which I much prefer...... Great part of the world to live. Best wishes. Nigel
Interesting. I haven't have a chance to explore Laos yet but I heard good things about the country too. What do you like about Laos? and why do you prefer Laos over Thailand? I thought Thailand is much more modern than Laos but I could be wrong =)
I like Laos for the very fact that it is not a 'developed' as Thailand. In many ways the country is still a backwater. Don't get me wrong, there are still a great range of accommodation and restaurants here and the food is just as spicy!!!! The pace of life is slower here too with everything closed by 9.pm which can be a bit of a nightmare!!!! :) N
Lolz. I especially like places where life is at a slower pace because I was born in Vietnam where the pace of life is similar to Thailand and Laos. I miss Southeast Asia so much now that I live in the U.S. I could not wait until I could move back to that region. Thanks for the information, now I got to find out more about Laos!!!
Ah! that explains why you are so interested in this part of the world. No wonder you miss it all. I visited Vietnam a couple of years ago and was very much taken with the country. I found Hanoi fascinating, Hue beautiful and Hoh Chi Minh City not quite to my taste. Laos, though, is still on the top of my list for great places to live..... :)
@hynghiem -PLEASE CHECK OUT MY NEW VIDEO...Just search for NONGKHAI PROVINCIAL ROCKET FESTIVAL PARADE 2011 (parts 1-8)..It was held at the village of Ban Thard, about 30 kms south of Nong Khai, only two days ago....It was loud but it was a brilliant spectacle..hope my videos capture some of the atmosphere.
Ah! that was in the dry season that is coming to an end shortly. All the sand banks will be under water and the river will rise several metres.... It is quite amazing to see.
Thanks for your comment..... Every month I spend a day in Nongkhai in order to renew my Lao Visa. I look forward each time in going as I really like the city and the surrounding countryside. I can well imagine why you miss your home town. Best wishes from an Englishman in the Orient. N

One more thing, were there many tourist there other than you?

@yuheikawaguchi
Nong Khai is a popular place with tourists. When I make my movies, I try not to show the tourists too much.
If there are any around, I wait till they have passed out of shot. I only wish to see Thai people.......

Most foreigners, I know, work for multi-national companies for a fixed term, before returning to their home country.
It also depends on the passport you have. Anyone from Vietnam, Thailand or Cambodia can work within each country - so I am lead to believe :) N
