  • I wish I had seen the final result. Can you do that next time? I love to see how things come out. Happy New Year!

  • @JessicaPersonalChef This dutch oven hobo pack comes out looking very close to what you get when you cook them covered in foil in a campfire, but I do get your point about showing the finished results. I'll do that next time. Thanks for the feedback.

  • I really like your channel,im originally from Va. Beach,Va,but I live up in northeast ohio,I just wanted you to know that you have great information about gardening, guns and about life, thanks for sharing,I believe we are living in the last days like the bible talks about,so we need to be prepared Spiritually and learn how to survive, thanks for your channel my friend,God bless ya!

  • @johnboh51 Thanks for the kind words. I do try to put out information that can be of use to folks.

  • I love Hobo packs! I put some soy sauce in for a great taste!

  • @SouthernBellePrepper Soy sauce? Of course! Duh... I should have thought of that. A touch of worchestire sauce would probably be good too. Maybe even a drop of liquid smoke to give it that campfire taste.

    Thanks SouthernBellePrepper.

  • @therealvirginiawind Now you are really making me hungry, lol

  • thanks 4 sharing. I like your ads

  • where i come from i call them tin foil dinners, and instead of onions i put carrots. either way there super delicious! thanks for sharing

  • @djsinthe I was really happy to learn I could make them in my dutch oven and have them come out tasting just as good as the foil version.

  • I'm going to try this after Christmas. What a nice hearty meal. Thanks for sharing :)

  • @oaktreega And it's of course gluten free. :)

However, I've a package of GF cornbread mix on the counter that's calling to me. I wonder if putting some of that on top of this dish would work.

  • @therealvirginiawind I saw that. I would try the corn bread on top next time.. have you tried the pizza crust from that brand? It is GF and it freezes really well. I use it a lot.

  • @oaktreega Haven't tried the pizza crust. We found a really good Italian place about a half hour from home that has a GF menu including pizza, AND... They even have a GF beer!

  • Good to see a video like this...Oh wait!!! What spices did you put on top there? Did you add any liquid? What temp did you cook it at????

  • @kastnmagic Salt, black pepper, and a bit of cayenne pepper. No liquid. 425 for about an hour, but that depends on how much you put in.

  • Now I'm hungry! I have got to try some more of this type of cooking.

  • @Buckrun11 These indoor dutch ovens work quite well. I've also started using mine for baking potatoes. They come out very well cooked.

  • Gooood eatin's right there folks! Good ending to the vid brother

  • I do the same thing except no carrots, instead I put in a jar of tomatoes chopped up, and I put the ground meat in a single layer over the whole top. Great hearty meal, and very simple, pepper is important to really jazz it up.

  • @logcabinlooms I did put a bit of cayenne pepper in to jazz it up, but got a bit carried away with sprinkling it on. I wasn't sure I would be able to eat the meat it was so heavy with the pepper. Turned out I guess the potatoes absorbed most of the heat. The meat was good, but not hot at all. An oops that turned out all right after all,

  • good looking meal

  • @tuffnutt34 Yes, it looks good and better yet tastes like a million. Simple, but it works.

  • i thought my wife and I were the only ones to make hobo dinners over an open far. Dang good viddles. burger, taties, carrots, lots of onion and garlic. Dont get no better than that. Clean up is a breaze too.

  • @butcherbls Foil on my campfire ring is the best, but I don't get to light that very often. This indoors version with the dutch oven is a pretty good second place. I'm thinkin that adding a drop or two of liquid smoke and you might not tell the difference as far as flavor goes. Oh, and do try adding a jalapeno or two if you're a mind. It's a nice touch, foil or oven.

  • @therealvirginiawind Here lately we been adding some of this years fresh made horse radish to our food for a little spice of life. Makes my nose run but sure is goood.

  • @butcherbls I had 6 pint jars of my horse radish. Had a bunch of people that wanted to try it so I have given 3 jars away. I have went through 1 jar. I am now down to 2 pint jars and I have been in one of those already! I may have to get the shovel out again.

  • @butcherbls I tried growing horse radish, but it never took off. I'm using cayenne pepper instead. That's supposed to be good for digestion.

  • We are laughing... I say the same thing, to the food... get happy! Love it all except that beef.

  • @artnuwa11 Got to have my meat darl'n, or it just ain't a meal. I respect anyone that doesn't want it though. Thanks for the post.

  • @therealvirginiawind If I raised it I would eat it. You are welcome. Thank you.

  • @artnuwa11 Next best thing to raising it. I shook hands with the guy that did. His sons did the butchering. He says it's grass fed with a bit of grain finishing - his stock, and not from a feedlot. I believe him.

  • @therealvirginiawind Good for you! I was raised on wild game. Ate it allot as a kid. Wish I could get some here. But so many ppl feed deer cron I would worry about the GMo corn. Had lots of chickens at my last place. Sure do miss them. If I can get settled here soon I would love to have chickens, rabbits & a goat or two. Stay well!

  • Looks good I am goona try this!

  • @Thesmalltowngardener The best version of this is foil and in a campfire, but the indoors version is worth trying.

  • looks like you have a real butcher shop/processor to get good quality ground beef. I have my own beef processed and mine comes packaged the same way...

excellent video, I haven't played with my dutch oven in several weeks, I got a plan for the weekend now!

  • @1952Jeep I get my beef from a local farm that does grass fed with a bit of grain finishing. It's not from a feedlot. I also go in together with my neighbor and we buy either a side or a quarter. The last batch, T-Bones and all, was $2.99 a pound.
