Basic Freshwater Fishing Tackle: Hooks, Weights, Swivels & Floats

Could i use bits of bass or pickrel ( idk if thats the rights spelling), as a bait? I have had luck some days, otherdays i have not. My friend has tried the same idea. Also, does anybody know if the color or size of rubber worm would effect my results? Any body know any spots in CT in tbe Fairfield county area? Thanks
